Cute as a reindeer’s button nose, this log cabin sits in the Finnish wilderness. The shores of Lake Vanttausjärvi are 20 metres away where you can take a boat out in summer for a spot of fishing (a rowing boat and outboard are included with a stay here). But it’s winter when this place really comes into its own. A cosy classic cabin vibe awaits, as towering pines are laden with snow and the scenery is blissfully silent. You may even spot the Northern Lights above. As snow blankets the land, keep warm in the outdoor hot tub or with a session in the garden sauna. Then there’s the lakeside summer kitchen, which could be a misnomer as it’s heated and a delight to cook in during the winter months too. Perhaps grill some of your own freshly-caught fish in the wood fire here. Inside, this home has all the trappings of a traditional log cabin – antler candelabra, whitewashed log walls on display and a wood-burning stove at the heart of the home. A picture-frame window displays the snowy landscape proudly, particularly enjoyable when curled up with a cup of cocoa on the L-shaped sofa. A full kitchen provides everything you need for self-catering, and the closest shop is a ten-minute snowmobile ride (or even-minute drive) away in Vanttauskoski.
