Barcelona is a vibrant city with a lively culture, fascinating architecture and a wonderful food and drink scene. But that’s just part of its appeal. Stretching along the Mediterranean Sea, the city’s wonderful coastline is a big draw for visitors, where you can spend lazy days swimming, sunbathing and exploring the sandy beaches. To make things easier for yourself, why not stay within walking distance of the seaside? Our travel experts at Plum Guide have selected our favourite Airbnb alternatives in Barcelona, Spain near the beach, so that you can roll out of bed and be on the sands faster than you can say ‘sangria’.

The House of Sun

Just a few minutes away from the beach, the sun-soaked location is this apartment's main appeal. It's not the biggest, but it's got just enough room for four – and there's a desk in each bedroom should you need to catch up o work (although we highly doubt you’ll be getting any done). Instead, you’ll most likely be spending all your time on the private terrace with its shaded seating area, large dining table and outdoor kitchen complete with a barbecue. The views of the neighbouring buildings aren't the most impressive but with the sun shining and a glass of sangria in hand, nothing beats having some outside space at your disposal.

Just a fifteen-minute walk from Barceloneta Beach, this one-bedroom apartment is a charming home away from home. It’s bright and breezy, with floor-to-ceiling windows leading onto a Juliet balcony. We love the traditional features, from the exposed bricks to the beamed ceilings. Combined with contemporary furniture and a sleek kitchen, what more could you ask for? If you think a roof terrace would be nice, you're in luck. There’s a communal one upstairs where you can sunbathe on the loungers or enjoy a sundowner with views across the fashionable El Born district.

The interiors are equally impressive, with a stylish living space and beautiful bedrooms all tied together by a calming, zen-like colour scheme. From here, you’re just a fifteen-minute walk to the beach. After a day of frolicking in the sea, fit in a workout in the building’s communal gym, or take a relaxing dip in the shared swimming pool before a quick sauna session. Don’t say we never spoil you.

There’s so much to love about this home right opposite Barceloneta Beach that we don't know where to start. First of all, there are the views. Facing directly towards the water, you can enjoy fantastic sea vistas from the comfort of your private roof terrace, four balconies (yes, really) and floor-to-ceiling windows in the lounge and the bedroom. Secondly, there’s lift access right into the apartment so that you can feel like a VIP guest (although access to the terrace is via steps). And finally, the Jacuzzi bath is a real luxury when you want a little pamper session after a long day at the beach.

Although it's a little bit further from the beach, this home is so cosy, we couldn't resist adding it to our list of Airbnb alternatives in Barcelona, Spain near the beach. Located within an 18th-century building in the city's Gothic Quarter, the apartment effortlessly combines period features with modern comforts. We love the use of wood, from the parquet floors to the wooden shutters and exposed beams. Watch the chef in action at the kitchen island and share a meal at the dining table.
