Our Characterful Home of the Week

Discovery is a worthy winner, let’s just hope it doesn’t milk it…

~

If ever there were a home to define the meaning of ‘eclectic’, it would most likely be this one. Thanks to a complete renovation by its fashion and interior design expert owners, Discovery is now one of Clerkenwell’s biggest characters. Our Home Critics couldn’t stop talking about the space, and here’s just a little of what they loved…

Its Hard-to-Believe History

We mentioned this earlier on in the week, but Discovery is one of our converted homes with an especially interesting past. The Georgian building dates back to the 1750s and way back when, it spent a number of years as a dairy. Yes, really, a fully functioning dairy. Looking at the home as it stands now, that's understandably hard to believe... but who doesn't love a surprise? (Just to reiterate, you won’t find any cows in Discovery. Guests can enjoy this home without any four-legged, rather space-consuming friends.)

The Little Luxuries

The eye-catching carpets throughout have been custom-made, naturally. You’ll find Fornasetti curtains in the second bedroom which are, quite frankly, to die for. And take note of the cushions in the garden room, which have been covered with vintage Dior scarves. (Chief Home Critic Margot’s taking inspiration and doing the same with her old Hèrmes silks. She’s been wondering what to do with those for an age.)

The Wake-You-Up Yellow Bathroom (even if it's not quite time to do so)

What’s better than a bright yellow bathroom to get the day started? The Wes Anderson-style tiling, coupled with the intricate brass artwork, gives a delightful hint of retro glamour (and gives another hint that we should probably make our own bathrooms a bit more interesting).

The Heaps of Character

Complete with a 'Garden Room' (meaning exotically decorated living area), restored Georgian fireplaces and a seemingly endless collection of ceramics, there’s something to discover wherever you look in Discovery. The library is full to the brim with books to devour, and should you need an alternative means of entertainment, it can transform into a cinema room too. In sum, you'll never be bored in this home.

Et voilà – what a dazzling Home of the Week that was! Until next time, why not take a look back at last week's winner, Copper Cabana here.
