Ranked: Our Home Critics' Pick of the Best Homes in Milan

An unquestionable, unimpeachable, definitive list

~

No one likes making decisions, and with so many beautiful homes in Milan, it can be hard to know where to start. We feel your pain. That's why we've asked our Home Critics (who have visited every single place) to weigh in with their favourite homes in the city.

'Milan sometimes gets overshadowed by more obvious tourist magnets, like Venice or Rome, but its unique combination of design and business means that it has some of the most innovative and stylish homes in the world. Of course, I'm biased, but I'm also the expert.' – Milan Home Critic (who shall remain anonymous).

The layout, the furniture and the design all come together in an apartment that’s far more than the sum of its parts.

Sometimes less is more, but sometimes more is more, and that’s definitely the philosophy that Tarragon Tiger adheres to.

Such a diverse collection of artefacts doesn’t come around every day, particularly when combined with such a cosy flat.

How many places have enough books to require an actual ladder? The reading material in Rifugio d’Artista could keep you occupied for years.

Fantastic views of the Duomo are just part of the draw to this flat. The mid-century design and bold wallpapers are just as eye-catching.

The windows, terraces, views, and the hot tub all bring Peregrine to the apex of modern comforts in Milan.

Muted colours and brick walls create a calm, welcoming environment, while the home cinema system will keep you glued to the sofa (Italian TV has great quiz shows).

Although on a different scale to some of the other places on this list, Octave holds a special place in our hearts. It’s perfectly proportioned and has a part of the unique, Milanese spirit.

Simplicity is the name of the game here, but that’s no slight to Meridian. Every piece of furniture and art has been carefully considered.

Sometimes you just want to have a soak on a rooftop terrace with 360º views. It's at these times that homes like Turn On The City Lights come into their own.

A pearl by name and nature, we could spend all day pottering around that kitchen.

The majestic horse rearing up in the living room is an excellent metaphor for this striking flat near the bustling nightlife of the canals.

Grandeur is no match for character, and Patrizia’s flat has that in abundance. It doesn’t hurt that it’s about as central as it gets.

While the floor-to-ceiling windows and wraparound terrace are the headlines, we’re obsessed with the rainfall shower.

The moment you've all been waiting for. In terms of amenities, Lift-Off has it all, but more importantly, it has an infectious sense of fun.

James works with Plum's Italian collection. He studied the country's cuisine, and is something of a pasta expert. He knows his cavatappi from his cavatelli, but he loves all shapes equally (apart from penne, whose inner void is too nihilistic for his taste).
