As each neighbourhood in the city becomes more and more developed, another springs up to take its place as the place for people in the know. It happened when rents soared in Brera, and the bars moved out to the canals. From there, the cool crowd moved back up to Isola, and now it finds itself in NoLo (Nord Loreto). The cringe-inducing name aside, NoLo is where you go these days to find the hidden bars and gigs of the Milan underground. In the last few years, the area has become more gentrified – art exists in galleries as well as on the street – but it’s still the hub for emerging artists and creatives in the city.
