Belleville is at the heart of Paris' 19th arrondissement, although it was only included in Paris' city boundaries from 1860 onwards. Its crowning glory is the parc des Buttes Chaumont, one of the capital's most popular parks, and even has its own open-air graffiti gallery in rue Dunoyez. It's now home to photographers, sculptors and artists in general as well as families. Belleville's heart however is working class and is also one of the capital's most multicultural neighbourhoods. Some even call Belleville Paris' Chinatown and there's an astonishing number of Asian markets to choose from. Although Belleville might not provide for the most typical Parisian experience, it's certainly a neighbourhood with its fair share of charm and character.
