This historic farmhouse and barn have been transformed into a striking modern apartment, perfect for exploring the Italian Lake District. Open up the sliding doors to combine the indoor space with the outdoor terrace – ideal for sunny evenings when eating on the patio is a must. However, the space is equally inviting inside, where you can admire original features, such as the exposed stone walls and wooden beams. Halfway between Lakes Maggiore and Lugano, you'll have lots of options for days out – set sail on a boat trip, explore nearby cycling trails (there's bike storage here), or drive to the nearby town of Varese for historic sights.

The Priory

Beautiful Lake Como is just 100 metres from this home, while other attractions nearby include the pretty Giardini del Tempio Voltiano with its museum, just over a five-minute walk away. Or head to Como Cathedral and Basilica di San Fedele – both are around five minutes on foot. There are a variety of cafés and restaurants for lunch on your doorstep, or head back to this elegant apartment. 

Open up the French doors to the Juliet balcony and take a seat on the comfy sofa to rest your feet for a while. We love the living room with its polished wood floors and vases of cream flowers. Whip up an insalata caprese in the modern kitchen and enjoy it at your dining table next to the wall adorned with giant cutlery. This home is the perfect retreat for a couple or solo traveller looking for easy access to the lake.


Lake Song

This stylish alpine apartment puts you within strolling distance of Chamonix’s historic town centre and the cable car. The space is modern yet homely, with an open-plan kitchen and living area that opens onto a balcony – the perfect perch for morning coffee with mountain views. The second bedroom is on the smaller side and windowless, but cosy for kids, and with a location this good, we think it’s a fair trade. From ski slopes to summer trails, or simply breathing in the fresh mountain air, this is base camp done right.

Chamonix Haven

Surrounded by mountains in the centre of Meiringen, you'll find this family-friendly resort waiting to be explored. Beautifully modern, this cosy apartment home feels warm and welcoming from the moment you arrive, with its timber-clad walls and cheery yellow accents. But the best thing about this home? Well, step outside onto your private balcony, and you'll see. A perfect holiday spot any time of year, there's plenty to do both on and off-site. Little ones will enjoy getting some fresh air in the playground or tackling the climbing wall, while the full family can take advantage of the heated outdoor pool and impressive tennis courts. Come winter, head out for a day on the slopes or hike along the winter walking paths. Whatever you choose to do, after a jam-packed day, you'll enjoy unwinding in the resort's wellness centre and sipping champagne as the sun sets over the mountains. Oh, and if you grew up with your nose in Sir Conan Doyle's books, there is an Easter egg for you here — the famous waterfall where Holmes and Moriarty last met is in the nearby town. 

Sherlock in the Alps

If it’s the mountain views that attracted you to Leukerbad, then we’ve some good news for you: this apartment serves up stunning vistas over the peaks and hills from its open-plan living area and large private balcony. The space is light and modern, with a comfy leather seating area where you’ll curl up around the open-hearth fireplace and watch a film on the flat-screen TV. In the mornings, you’ll tuck into a light meal at the breakfast bar in the kitchen, while dinners with the family are enjoyed around the eight-seater dining table. Catch the ski bus to one of the eighteen pistes for a day on the slopes and relax at the chalet’s sauna, whirlpool jacuzzi and steam room when you get back. After a day of adventure, we’re sure you’ll get a restful night’s sleep in one of the four comfortable bedrooms, which have their own views out over the mountains.

Alpine Sun

Known for its beginner-friendly slopes and stunning Swiss Alps scenery, it's no surprise that Villars-sur-Ollon is a popular destination for families. Whether you're after excellent hiking in the summer, fantastic skiing in the winter or just a relaxing getaway in the mountains, there's something for everyone here, especially with the gondola a twelve-minute walk away, a free ski shuttle service and the restaurants and shops in town only six minutes by car.

This cosy chalet shows off the idyllic views in every direction and makes an ideal base for anyone exploring the region. You'll feel right at home in this rustic hideaway, with the open-hearth fireplace, squishy sofas and wooden panelling creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's the perfect place to kick off your snow boots and unwind with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book.

Our favourite spot to soak up the sunshine (and the scenery) is the deck off the main bedroom. Enjoy a cup of coffee there in the morning before rustling up breakfast in the kitchen, then grab your skis and snowboards and hit the slopes. When your toes feel frosty and your muscles are sore, head back home to a roaring fire and some delicious cheese fondue around the oak dining table before snuggling up for a family movie night in the lounge. 

Sommet

This modern appointed villa, nestled along Lombardy's picturesque lakeshore, offers an idyllic retreat for guests seeking tranquility and beauty. With its own private pool, exclusive sandy beach, and boat access, this lakeside haven promises an unforgettable stay. The villa features spacious living areas that perfectly frame breathtaking lake views, while air-conditioned bedrooms ensure comfort. In the charming ski town of Les Gets, this chalet is big enough for a large family or group of friends who like to hit the slopes or hiking trails – depending on the season. Post-ski sessions in the hot tub come with a stunning view of the Alps. Inside, the place is equipped with everything you’ll need to feel right at home, and some of the bedrooms boast balcony access. Your host can provide a private chef, breakfast delivery and the possibility to upgrade to half-board for an extra touch of luxury. 

The Snowman's Song

The views of Lake Como from this home are simply gorgeous – we could sit on the balcony here gazing out over the gently rippling water to the mountains for hours. You can enjoy the incredible vistas from the terrace too, where you can relax on the sun loungers or dine alfresco. Whip up some tortelli di zucca in the sleek, dove grey kitchen for dinner. On chilly evenings gather around the fire or get some rest in the stylish bedrooms with their ornate wallpaper. 

Situated in Argegno, there are a range of eateries within a five-minute walk. Further afield, the alpine city of Lecco, with its splendid Basilica di San Nicolò, is eleven minutes in the car. Or walk the trails of the stunning Monte Barro Regional Park, a sixteen-minute drive from this lovely home.



Watching The Boats Go By

This apartment positions classic Swiss design in a modern space and celebrates minimalist style alongside natural materials. Wood is used throughout, from the hanging lamp to the TV table and headboard. You're perfectly positioned to explore the postcard-pretty mountains at Meiringen and discover their history – Arthur Conan Doyle immortalised this very valley when he left his fictional character, Sherlock Holmes, for dead at the base of the Reichenbach Falls. Detective memorabilia can be found scattered around the apartment and there’s even a museum dedicated to the famous sleuth. The ski lift is just one kilometre away, so you can making a beeline for the slopes as soon as you've fuelled up on breakfast (taken out on your beautiful terrace, of course). Once home, rent a fondue kit from reception and spend an evening indulging yourself in life's little pleasures. 

The Magnifying Glass

Lifted straight from an Alpine postcard, this tastefully furnished flat is found within a grand rustic chalet on the slopes of Lenk. There's a short climb to the front door, which will put you in good stead for the many themed trails and hiking routes in the region. Inside, the wood-panelled walls pair nicely with more modern fittings, including a kitchen that wouldn't feel out of place in the city. The two double bedrooms don't feel cramped, but arguably nothing does when you gaze out on the fields and dramatic mountains from the private balcony. You can also admire the views from the garden and outdoor dining area, with the chalet making for an excellent departure point for hikers. 

Garden Haven Retreat

This contemporary studio apartment is the ideal bolthole for exploring the beautiful city of Lugano. Located within walking distance of the city's cultural highlights as well as conference centres so it's perfectly suited for anyone, whether you're travelling for business or pleasure.

We love how easily this apartment lends itself to any occasion. A cosy bedroom, a living room for watching the smart TV, a workspace, or a romantic dining space. Its classic, neutral-toned decor is sleek and timeless, while still having a homeliness to it. 

Even if you're in Lugano on business, it'd be remiss not to explore this wonderful city with its unique blend of Swiss and Italian cultures. The Museum of Art of Italian Switzerland is not to be missed, and you can even sail between Switzerland and Italy for a day trip. Or, you can head to the Old Town to soak up the mix of Swiss-style buildings and Italian-style piazzas. And while there's so much to see, eat, drink, and do in Lugano, the city's highlight is the dazzling Lake Lugano – you can take in all of its beauty from the waterfront of Parco Ciani.

After spending dreamy days wandering around this picture-perfect city, you have a bar right downstairs for a nightcap under the stars. Or, pick up a bottle from the local market to be enjoyed in the comfort of your own cosy apartment, nibbling on antipasto around the dining table.
