Set in a pedestrianised area, it’s blissfully quiet here. Yet you’re just a short walk from Osteno, with its authentic trattorias and bars. Meanwhile, Lake Lugano is just twenty minutes on foot. Why not charter a boat to hop over to the Swiss city of Lugano for the day? Known as the Monte Carlo of Switzerland, you’ll be in good company.

Stunning views are what caught our eye at this lakefront apartment. The wraparound balcony is the perfect place to enjoy them, whether you're tucking into an alfresco breakfast or savouring a sundowner. Although the interiors may not stack up to the surrounding scenery, they are practical and comfortable. There's also a sofa bed for two, but the space is a tad snug with it in use. Location-wise, Campione d'Italia is an Italian enclave entirely in Switzerland. Gourmet restaurants and local shops are nearby, while the other villages along Lake Como can be reached by ferry or car.

This contemporary apartment is only a five-minute stroll from the centre of Cernobbio. Shops, bars, restaurants – you name it, you can reach it on foot with ease. Location aside, what caught our eye here were the spectacular views of the surrounding Como Pre-Alps mountains. Thanks to a glass wall, you can enjoy them from the living area. Or, even better, admire the scenery while savouring a cocktail on the private balcony. The rest of the apartment is bright, comfortable, and modern in design. We think it makes a great base for a couple keen to explore Lake Como.
