Nestled in the hills of Cernobbio, this eco-friendly home offers a serene escape for a family or group of friends. There’s so much to love about this home, with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy some quiet time or socialise as a group. But, the standout for us is the view. Whether you’re drinking in the lake vistas from the indoor or outdoor space, it’s something you’ll never tire of. And, when the scenery pulls you in, it’s a mere four-minute drive to town and the lake, where delicious Italian eateries and adventures await. 

Timeless Tranquillity

Sleek and sophisticated, this apartment is ideal for families or groups of friends planning a trip to picture-perfect Lugano. Located right in the heart of the city, you'll settle into the Swiss way of life in no time at all. 

Step inside, and you'll find a contemporary space that's full of natural light. It's a great place to kick back and relax between your adventures – flop down on the sofa with a good book, or get busy in the kitchen with some fresh local ingredients. There's even a balcony where you can sip your morning coffee, and if you need to work then one of the bedrooms has its own desk where you can catch up on emails. 

From here, you're just a five-minute walk away from the gorgeous lakeside. Join the Lungolago di Lugano walking trail, and marvel at the stunning scenery with views across the water to the mountains beyond. The marvelous green space of Parco Ciani is also just a five-minute walk away, and culture fans will be delighted that the Museo D'arte Della Svizzera Italiana is the same distance. And, when you get hungry, there are plenty of nearby restaurants serving up tasty Swiss-Italian dishes to enjoy. 

Boutique by the Lake

We were sold on those views of Lake Maggiore alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the panoramic sunny terrace and newly refurbished interiors of this townhouse. As we're finickity, the downstairs living space feels a little bijou, but with that covered panoramic balcony outside, we don't think you'll mind. And kids will love the novelty of the top-floor mezzanine bedroom with a TV den to spill out into. Perched amidst the hillsides, 700 metres above the lake, you're quietly removed from the bustle. But when it's time to dip your toes into lakeside living, Stresa's grand promenades and history-rich streets bustling with trattorias are just a five-minute drive away.

Top of the Lake

Halfway between Italy’s Varese and Switzerland’s Lugano, this cosy Cunardo apartment puts you right in the middle of lake country. The interiors are simple and practical – there's no living room, but the bedroom has plenty of space to spread out. Step outside and you’ll find friendly local trattorias and bars that make you feel right at home. And with Switzerland just a half-hour drive away, you can cross the border for lunch and be back in time for an evening aperitivo.

The Rustic Retreat

Arrive in style at this lakeside property on board a resplendent Riva speedboat, thanks to its private jetty. Disembark and step inside to discover a spacious and stylish open-plan living area and kitchen, kitted out with all the culinary accoutrements you might need to whip up delicious homemade meals, just like nonna used to make.

From the living room, not only will you enjoy access to a private balcony through two sets of French doors, but also awe-inspiring panoramic views capable of bringing a tear to the eye. The soothing atmosphere of the bedrooms will help you relax after your journey, while there's a good amount of storage space so you can unpack and settle in. The main bedroom even finds room for a desk and enjoys access to an en-suite shower room.

When you're not sunbathing and swimming in the lake, explore the surrounding village of Laglio. With slopes full of vineyards and olive groves, and pastel-coloured villas, it's one of the most elegant lakeside locations. But don't take our word for it. George Clooney purchased his nearby eighteenth-century estate back in 2002 and still returns multiple times a year, some two decades later.

Ocean's Eleven

On the ground floor of a traditional chalet-style resort, this comfortable apartment offers sublime Alpine views and easy access to sensational ski slopes. Large windows dominate the living room, filling the space with light and offering the most scenic backdrop you could hope for. The simple styling makes for a homely feel, with big, plump sofas. The bedroom has its own private terrace, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee while you breathe in that crisp, clean mountain air. Set off to explore Grindelwald’s centre just minutes away, then take the gondola or the free ski bus to reach the pistes. After a day of fun in the snow, come back home for a fondue feast followed by a glass of mulled wine with a movie. In the summer, the area offers countless hiking and cycling trails to explore, as well as canoeing and river rafting for the more adventurous.

Nestled at the foot of the Swiss Alps, you'll find the Italian-speaking town of Locarno. This smart apartment is right in the centre of this melting-pot, and makes the perfect place to begin your adventures in this uniquely beautiful region.

And, if you're visiting in the summer months, you can lace up your walking boots or jump on your bike to explore the peaks and valleys of this incredible region.

Here, there are a variety of dining options and shops to discover, while Giardino della Valle and the Villa Erba exhibition and trade centre are also a short stroll away. The home itself has modern decor, and the open-plan living space sleeps guests three and four on a sofa bed. There’s also a terrace area filled with palms to enjoy the Italian sun. Last but not least, there’s free parking in a private garage – this place is great for exploring Lombardy.
