You can look forward to cheese-filled dinners, using the home's raclette grill and fondue set, and curling up by the towering feature fireplace – the vistas of the peaks will backdrop everything you do. Bedrooms are simple and on the bottom floor, ensuring a good night's sleep before taking the ski bus (600m from the home) or setting off on a hike. There's only one deadline to adventures, and that's being back at the balcony for sunset over the snow-capped peaks.

While this chalet in Rairettes was built in 2013, its wooden walls, arched ceilings and slate roof make it feel quintessentially old-school Swiss. There's a smart twist, however, with floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the home that give unparalleled views over the snow-capped mountains. Whether you're cooking in the pine kitchen, cuddled round the feature fireplace or squashed onto the crushed velvet sofa, eyes will invariably gaze out over the magnificent vistas. In the summer, it's out to the home's balcony and grassy garden for barbecues, alfresco feasts, and even a spot of tanning on the loungers if it's warm enough. Mountain trails – both hiking and skiing – can be found not far from the plot for days exploring ridges and new pastures. When you're done, head back to the plush pad for evening soaks in the deep bathtub or a session in the private sauna.

For those visiting the area hoping for more skiing than sleuthing, you're also in luck. The ski region of Meiringen-Hasliberg has a total of fourteen lifts and twenty ski runs and is a kilometre away, while further afield you’re within easy reach of Axalp, Schilthorn and Jungfrau. For summer stays, we recommend bringing your hiking boots – there are hiking paths within fifty metres of the apartment, and you’re surrounded by stunning scenery such as the Aare Gorge. When your toes feel frosty and your muscles are sore, head back home to a roaring fire and some delicious cheese fondue around the oak dining table before snuggling up for a family movie night in the lounge.

Lovingly renovated in 2020, this home in the heart of the Val d’Arly has both charm and location on its side. You don’t have to look far to find proof of the enviable position – simply wander out onto the balcony and you’ll spot the rolling green mountain there as confirmation. But it isn’t just about the views either, not when the ski slopes of Les Evettes are a mere 1.8 miles away and can be reached via the free shuttles that run in season. Get on the snow and test your mettle on the different ski runs, before coming back for a warming Après-ski drink on the balcony. 

The mix of natural wood and a light colour palette makes this home feel incredibly cosy and we can imagine ourselves curling up on the couch in thick socks and a slouchy jumper. Enjoy cups of coffee as you socialise in the lounge, or carve out some you-time by getting your nose in a novel.
