Our favourite thing about My Cobalt Diary was undoubtedly the balcony. Bright, refreshing, and cosy, it overlooks a typical Berliner courtyard, with greenery during the summer months. Found in the heart of the city, many of Berlin’s most popular attractions are nearby – including Hackescher Markt and the Spree. We also loved how well-connected it is – you can easily reach the likes of Kreuzberg, Neukölln, and Friedrichshain. It’s worth noting that it’s a studio, so don’t expect lots and lots of space.

My Cobalt Diary

Brimming with books, artsy trinkets and Rothko-esque paintings, this Mitte flat is the kind of home that starts conversations. Once owned by an artist, there's a unique layout and a creative flair here that we loved when we visited. It's a blend of different styles, yet it works – vintage antiques mix with minimalist furniture, wooden countertops sit on stainless steel cabinets and, in the heart of it all, are the huge windows showing off the mammoth trees of Arkonaplatz Square across the street. On sunny days, enjoy your morning cup of coffee and breakfast roll on the balcony, watching as Berlin comes to life. Location-wise, you won't have to travel far to experience the authentic flea markets, buzzing restaurant scene and trendy galleries in this lively part of Mitte. Instead of walking to the main attractions, make like the locals and rent a bike from the cycle hire stations in the Kulturbrauerei or hop on the tram and be in the city centre in no time. 

Dance on Air

If you’re in Berlin to see the sights, you should stay somewhere like The Frog Prince. Alexanderplatz is about fifteen minutes away and the same with Museum Island. Even though it’s not the most characterful home we have, we love its vintage-meets-modern style. The kitchen is a particular favourite, with its sleek feel and modern appliances.

The Frog Prince

Industrial meets rustic, Candid Camera is one of a kind. Located just fifteen minutes from Volkspark Friedrichshain, you’re in a beautiful area packed with bars, restaurants and shops. It’s not difficult to see that Ludger has put a lot of love and effort into designing this space, especially when it comes to all the eye-catching decorations. With a well-equipped kitchen and a cosy terrace, it’s a great place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing.

Candid Camera

With a large, well-equipped kitchen, and a wonderful patio, there’s no getting around the fact that this home is set up for having a good time. There’s also a sauna, which is the ultimate post-sightseeing treat. Location-wise, it almost doesn’t get any better than this. Rosenthaler Platz is rich in culture, and it’s also one of our favourite neighbourhoods – get ready to explore modern art galleries, one-of-a-kind cafes, quirky bars, and lots and lots of co-working spaces.

Monochrome Farben

With a funky mix of global influences, The Ventriloquist is Berlin chic to the bone. It’s easy to see that a lot of time and effort has been put into picking the right decorations – from the safari-style wall decorations to the tribal print rugs. There’s also a projector screen in the living room, encouraging you to stay in, slow down and watch a film. The immediate area might be a little too touristy for some, but there are also plenty of nearby places we love – one of them being Weinberg Park, the perfect spot to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

The Ventriloquist

Sage looks like it’s stuck in a bohemian moment of the 1960s – and we're here for it. Positively brimming with retro furniture, hip artwork, and a vibrant colour palette, it’s like breathing in a breath of fresh air. We love that all of this is happening inside an old Altbau building, with big windows and high ceilings, allowing plenty of natural light to stream through the large bedrooms and spacious communal areas. It's a real crowd-pleasing home, with three brightly coloured bedrooms, each with their own eclectic prints, funky patterns and green houseplants. Set against the backdrop of Mitte, it’s in an excellent location for exploring too. Alexanderplatz is around the corner (a five-minute walk away) – and if you feel like exploring Museum Island, it’s less than fifteen minutes from home by foot.

Sage

The Juggler is a cachet of Berlin cool. Funky and playful in one, this place sports artistic wallpapers and well-curated splashes of colour. The hosts love Berlin and they’re not afraid to show it – the organic Berlin-made toiletries are the icing on the cake. The immediate area is a little touristy, but there are lots of wonderful restaurants right by Zionkirchplatz.

The Juggler

Designed in a modern Japandi style, this centrally located apartment is ideal for those looking for a calm stay within easy reach of the city’s most notable sights. While one guest will need to sleep on the sofa bed at full capacity, a Sonos sound system, a coffee and matcha station and a courtyard-facing bedroom are nice touches here that caught our eye. And the dedicated desk space makes this quiet home perfect for those needing to work remotely. You won’t find a TV here, but you’ll hardly notice given the countless things to see and do nearby, including Mauerpark, the Wasserturm Prenzlauer Berg and plenty of public transport options to take you to all corners of the city. 


The Zen Tree

With an abundance of coworking spaces, quirky cafes and art galleries nearby, this home near Rosenthaler Platz is certainly in a lively neighbourhood. Ideal for groups of friends or families, the kitchen is well-equipped, the bathroom is fresh and functional, and the bedrooms are airy and bright. It's not bursting with character, but it does have plenty of design strengths like the funky kaleidoscope artwork, the sunny den leading onto the little balcony and, of course, the wonderful views. 

Key Lime Pie

Furnished with a homely mix of mismatched pieces, funky artwork and pops of colour, this apartment is a cool-looking space that’s a pleasure to hang out in. The living area is generous enough to entertain you and a couple of friends, while the large couch with footstool calls for relaxing under a blanket after a busy day exploring your buzzy Mitte neighbourhood. Pull up a blue velvet chair to the dining table and tuck into a traditional German breakfast or munch on a brötchen in the fresh air on your private balcony. Grab a coffee-to-go from a nearby café and take the leisurely thirty-minute stroll to Museum Island. Or, hop on the S-Bahn for five minutes to the unmistakable Brandenburg Gate and leafy Tiergarten – perfect for picnics in the sunshine.

Audiophile

Animalia is one of those homes that manages to tell a story. All the artworks are original pieces made by the host and his father, and the beautiful vintage-style cast iron chairs are sourced from his uncle’s bar. The space could be a bit tight for six guests, but it would be perfect for a family or a small group of friends coming to experience the city.

Bright and minimalist, it's a home with a spectacular view too. On the top floor and boasting not one but two spacious terraces, you can gaze across the rooftops and make the most of the evening sunshine in the summer months. The nearby church makes for an impressive backdrop and if you're hooked on views you can even visit it on a Sunday and climb its tall tower.

Inside, white walls and pine floors mix with sloping ceilings, plentiful house plants and little dashes of character, to make for a relaxing, stylish city home. You'll have a bedroom sleeping up to three and the living room easily converts into a second sleeping space – although you'd be sacrificing your indoor starting. Buzzing Arkonaplatz and its popular flea market is only a short walk from your door and this lovely part of the city is packed with great bars and restaurants.
