Three Daughters merges old-world Copenhagen with modern family life. It has high ceilings and unbelievable stucco (straight out of a fairytale castle), and yet it feels very twenty-first-century Copenhagen. The fact that it’s a family home is evident in every corner (we noticed quite a few pen scribbles on the walls, original artworks courtesy of the three children). With its green parks and wide boulevards, Frederiksberg is great for families. Frederiksberg Gardens are very close, and Copenhagen Zoo is just a twenty-minute walk away.

Sleek and stylish, this apartment has everything you might need for a comfortable stay in Copenhagen. There's plenty of room for your group to spread out and relax – as long as two guests don't mind sleeping on a sofa bed in the living area. You'll also have access to a small balcony, which doesn't offer the most inspiring views, although we still think it's a pleasant space to unwind. Trendy Nørrebro is a short walk away, with plenty of shopping, parks and dining options nearby. The home is a short Metro ride from the city centre, but if you’re in search of a chic and well-equipped home, this is a great choice.

This stunning seventh-floor apartment offers the best of modern city living. It’s on Island Brygge, along the main canal of Copenhagen’s harbour, and just across the canal from the busy city centre. Walking across the pedestrian bridge, you can reach Tivoli, Kødbyen, and Town Hall Square in no time. The apartment has two terraces with canal views, with lounge furniture and an outdoor dining table. Inside, huge windows bring the views inside. This is a contemporary apartment with everything you need to make yourself at home – there’s even a wine fridge. Three guests will sleep on sofa beds in the living space, as there are only two bedrooms.

It's worth noting if four of you share, the last two guests will have to make do with the sofa bed in the living space. You'll also need to prepare for some street noise from time to time. But we'll take that for a home with such an unbeatable location.

Need to be someplace fast? The Metro is only minutes away, making exploring every corner of Copenhagen easy. Inside, the Scandi interiors of this light-filled home speak for themselves. That said, there are a few compromises to be made here. The main bedroom sleeps four, with both a double bed and a sofa bed, while a living room sofa bed sleeps another two. While this won’t suit everyone, it could work out great for a small family or close-knit group.

We love the homey comforts on offer here, from the sheepskin throws to the inviting Scandi and vintage furnishings and the large windows proferring fourth-floor views over the city’s rooftops. Our favourite spot is the private balcony with its views of Christiansborg’s spire. Sit here with your morning coffee while soaking up the fresh air or gather at the elegant dining table with the French doors open to enjoy the warmth and cosiness of your home. With plenty of curios decking the shelves, original artwork, a record player to serenade your evenings and a beautiful antique bureau on which to catch up on work, you’re all set for a relaxing time here, whether for business or pleasure. With all of Copenhagen's best bits within easy strolling distance, the location of this central Indre By apartment is hard to beat. While we can't fault the light-filled, Scandi interiors of the living area and bedrooms, the kitchen and bathroom set-up might be too compact for some. It's also worth noting that at full occupancy, the last two guests will be sharing a sofa bed in the lounge. But we're willing to let that slide for a home with such a spot-on location.

It’s both playful and creative in the way it blends colour and its architectural solutions, making this a truly unique sanctuary in the middle of the city. We also love how the master bedroom feels a little like the hideouts we dreamt of when we were kids – because who said the little ones get to have all the fun? Tucked back from the hustle and bustle of the ever-popular harbourside hotspot of Nyhavn, this spectacular apartment ranks among our favourites in the city. 

A large open-plan living area is the focal point of any stay here, with a sleek handleless kitchen, a typically stylish mid-century dining table and chairs, plus a comfortable seating area. It's lined with windows along one side, letting in plenty of natural light during the day. When night falls, elegant pendant lights illuminate the space.

Stride out into the picturesque pocket of the city. This 17th-century canal, lined with colourful houses and stunning sailboats, continuously tops lists of Copenhagen's must-see sights, and it's easy to see why. But, while it may attract the tourists, there's no doubt that the locals love it just as much, and you'd be hard-pushed to find a better spot in the city to enjoy a cold beer on a warm summer's afternoon.

To the east, a bridge connects you to the cafes and canals of Christianshavn and the hippie haven of Christiania, where quirky self-built homes line the lake. While to the west lie Copenhagen's pedestrianised shopping streets and the low-key creative cool of Kødbyen, also known as the Meatpacking District, a ten-minute bike ride away.

As with the rides at Tivoli, this apartment has some ups and downs – let's start with the good points. There's a shared garden perfect for beers in the summer, and the apartment itself is spacious. To enter the second bedroom, though, you will need to go through the third bedroom. This room doesn't have any windows but borrows light via French doors into the adjacent room, so privacy is also an issue – it’s probably fine for the kids, we would say.

It feels extremely personal as it’s brimming with trinkets – we especially love all the items that the host collected when she lived in Japan. Awe-inspiring and monumental in every way, it is also a loved family home. Located in the upmarket part of Frederiksberg, it’s the kind of home that invites you to spend time with your loved ones – whether that means slowing down in the garden, cooking a feast in the kitchen, or relaxing in front of the fireplace, we will leave up to you.

Located right in the heart of Copenhagen, this eco-friendly apartment hits all the right notes when it comes to ease and simplicity. Outside, it’s a short stroll to Kongens Have and Kongens Nytorv. It elegantly blends wooden furniture, green plants and photos taken by the host himself to form a modern minimalist home with plenty of charm. You are a five-minute walk from Nyhavn and all of its cultural attractions. If you feel like experiencing the city in a different way, you can also sit down on the sunny balcony with a cup of coffee and watch Copenhageners go about their day.

Locations really don’t get much better than this. It's rare to find a property this close by to the picture-perfect Nyhavn district, with its brightly coloured gabled townhouses. Find a sunny spot outside at a quayside café or hop on a boat for one of the many canal tours that start here. As the evening draws in, take a pre-dinner stroll along the waterfront, then duck into one of the many restaurants and bars that line the canal.  You could call in on the Queen too, she lives just around the corner. And when it’s finally time to retreat inside, you’ll find a contemporary place that invites you to be social. The communal area is the heart of the home, offering plenty of space for your tribe to hang out, cook, and eat. The industrial-style windows flood natural light through the apartment by day, while the plush velvet curtains allow privacy at night when it’s time for some shut-eye.

Enjoy meals in the quirky dining area, with chic lighting, Eames-influenced chairs and brickwork wallpaper, that creates an industrial-styled space. In true Copenhagen fashion, the bathroom isn’t luxurious (it’s actually rather small), but we’re willing to look past that as the rest of the home is so charming. Outside, Frederiksberg is on the fancier side, so it’s especially ideal for someone who craves a bit of peace and quiet. You'll find upscale shops, boutiques and gourmet restaurants aplenty nearby, and you're within a five-minute walk from the Aksel Møllers Have metro station, connecting you to the rest of this ever-emerging city.

A great option for a multi-generational family stay, each bedroom is as light-filled as the next, and the living spaces are palatial by inner-city standards. It's worth noting there's only one bathroom here, and four guests will be sharing the last bedroom – fine for family sharing, but it won't suit everyone. Expect street noise from time to time, too – but that's all part and parcel of central Copenhagen living.

Pictionary is just a five-minute walk away from Copenhagen’s Central station, which means that you’re very well-connected. Vesterbro is also lovely, especially if you’re looking to sample some new restaurants or coffee shops – or want to be in walking distance to Tivoli and Rådhuspladsen. It’s not the most characterful home on our books, but we like that it feels welcoming and bright. The kitchen is definitely the highlight – it’s large, modern, and well-equipped for cooking.

This apartment is located in one of Copenhagen's most distinguished neighbourhoods. Step outside your door and you'll find cafes, bars and restaurants all within reach – not to mention key sights such as Churchill Park and Amalienborg Palace within walking distance, too. Spread across a single level, it is tastefully designed, blending old and new to deliver an eclectic and elevated atmosphere. All in all, this makes a great base for groups of friends or families seeking style and substance when in town.


A Lovely Manor

The Magic Flute is rich in history. Located just off lively Nyhavn, the building dates all the way back to 1658 (there’s a plaque at the entrance detailing all the owners throughout the years). With crooked, creaky floors, it’s oozing old charm – and paired with Matilde’s artwork, instruments, and personality, it becomes one of a kind. She’s an opera singer and works just down the road in the Royal Opera House, which only makes this home even more special.

Do Copenhagen right and stay at this swoon-worthy Scandi apartment in the city centre. With light-filled rooms, an unbeatable location and the rare luxury of a private terrace, it doesn't get better than this modern home. 

The open-plan living area is the ideal hangout spot for your holiday downtown. Finished with bright furnishings and a touch of boho charm, the spacious room is lit up with not one, not two, but six windows. After preparing meals in the snazzy kitchen, you have a choice of places to dine – at the breakfast bar, the eight-person dining table, or outside in the sun (that's our pick, weather permitting). 

When it's time to explore the city, you won't have to travel far to take in Copenhagen's best sites. The cobbled Kongens Nytorv square is barely a five-minute walk away, and from here Nyhavn's colourful waterfront is another short hop. Enjoy lunch with a waterfront view, then meander through the characterful streets towards Christianshavn, a unique network of small islands. This is the place to be if you're a fan of street art and intimate music venues.

There’s no place like home… Until you’ve stayed in Master of Light that is. Casual luxury at its finest, it’s Copenhagen at its best. The location is extraordinary – you’re right besides Nyhavn, the city’s most famous postcard motif. And we can’t get over the design. Alexander clearly has a passion for Danish design, with works by Bang & Olufsen and Hans J. Wegner adorning every corner. There’s also a fantastic rooftop terrace with a nine-person hot tub, sun beds and a lounge arrangement, plus fantastic views of Copenhagen's historic buildings.

A bohemian atmosphere meets Japanese zen in this striking home. We particularly love all the original features including the wooden beams, exposed brick walls (and even the creaky floors), which mix beautifully with the hosts’ collection of books and vintage furniture. Since the apartment was renovated in 2013, it has been featured in several lifestyle magazines for its charming design aesthetic. Spread across three floors, unique quirks include the rather rustic ladders that take you up to the second and third floors. Curl up in a cosy corner with a book in hand and live the scene of what seems like it could be a fictional dream. Alongside world literature, the host also supplies guests with access to gym equipment, should you wish to keep up with your fitness routine while visiting Copenhagen. Around the apartment, the immediate area feels very local – the Christianshavn canals are just two minutes away, and so are plenty of restaurants. All in all, it's safe to say that this home is perfectly out of the ordinary.

Arigatou

Embrace the laid-back maritime atmosphere of the neighbourhood during your stay at this unique, open-plan apartment. Its enviable location on the top floor means that it offers enviable views over the area, but it's illuminated from both sides, providing you with plenty of natural light to enjoy throughout the day. Not that you'll be in much with the delights on your doorstep.

Made up of a collection of small islands, Christianshavn is best known for its cafe culture and canals lined with colourful boats. You're just 500m from the alternative hotspot of Freetown Christiania, while the super impressive Copenhagen Opera House is a couple of kilometres away (it's hard to imagine two more dramatically different cultural centres). Further north, Copenhagen Street Food is ten minutes by bike, where you can sample inventive international cuisine. For travellers interested in design, atmosphere and culture, it doesn't get much better than Christianshavn.

After a day spent exploring the area, head back home for dinner cooked in the well-equipped kitchen and a chance to put your feet up on the sofa. Then, when your eyes start to get heavy, take yourself off to the cosy bedroom for a fantastic night's sleep.

As expected for an 18th-century Copenhagen home, the layout of this large and oh-so-stylish studio is a little kooky. One bedroom with a handy desk nook is tucked into the eaves on a mezzanine, so it's not the most private of spaces.
