There's plenty of room for your group to spread out and relax – as long as two guests don't mind sleeping on a sofa bed in the living area. You'll also have access to a small balcony, which doesn't offer the most inspiring views, although we still think it's a pleasant space to unwind. Trendy Nørrebro is a short walk away, with plenty of shopping, parks and dining options nearby. The home is a short Metro ride from the city centre, but if you’re in search of a chic and well-equipped home, this is a great choice.

If you’re visiting as a group of eight, two guests will sleep on the living area sofa bed, so you might need to call it early some nights. But then again, with plenty of bars and concert venues nearby, we’re sure you'll spend your evenings out experiencing the Copenhagen culture.

If you’re searching for classic Scandinavian design in a fantastic location, this apartment delivers. Located on the third floor of a historic building without a lift, there is plenty of space for a group of nine to relax after a day of exploring. It’s worth noting there is only one bathroom here, but it's ideal for remote workers with dedicated desk space and families will appreciate the children’s amenities available for an additional fee. From here, it’s just a short stroll to the bars and restaurants of Nyhavn, while shops and historic sights are also within walking distance.

With all of Copenhagen's best bits within easy strolling distance, the location of this central Indre By apartment is hard to beat. While we can't fault the light-filled, Scandi interiors of the living area and bedrooms, the kitchen and bathroom set-up might be too compact for some. It's also worth noting that at full occupancy, the last two guests will be sharing a sofa bed in the lounge. But we're willing to let that slide for a home with such a spot-on location.

If you’re looking to experience the vibrant heart of Copenhagen, this apartment delivers a great solution. Located on Strøget, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to local restaurants, cafes and shops. It also provides easy access to iconic sights and there are great public transport links. It’s worth noting, you may hear some street noise during your stay but this is to be expected in this central location. Plus, you’ll find all the essentials you could need to settle in and unwind. There are also flexible sleeping arrangements with two sofa beds – making this a sweet option for families.

Place yourself footsteps from Copenhagen’s hotspots, including the iconic Magasin du Nord department store and Tivoli Gardens, at this oh-so-central home. Better still, with the Metro just a three-minute stroll from your door, arriving into the city is a breeze from here. Tucked back from the hustle and bustle of the ever-popular harbourside hotspot of Nyhavn, this spectacular apartment ranks among our favourites in the city. 

A large open-plan living area is the focal point of any stay here, with a sleek handleless kitchen, a typically stylish mid-century dining table and chairs, plus a comfortable seating area. It's lined with windows along one side, letting in plenty of natural light during the day. When night falls, elegant pendant lights illuminate the space.

Stride out into the picturesque pocket of the city. This 17th-century canal, lined with colourful houses and stunning sailboats, continuously tops lists of Copenhagen's must-see sights, and it's easy to see why. But, while it may attract the tourists, there's no doubt that the locals love it just as much, and you'd be hard-pushed to find a better spot in the city to enjoy a cold beer on a warm summer's afternoon.

To the east, a bridge connects you to the cafes and canals of Christianshavn and the hippie haven of Christiania, where quirky self-built homes line the lake. While to the west lie Copenhagen's pedestrianised shopping streets and the low-key creative cool of Kødbyen, also known as the Meatpacking District, a ten-minute bike ride away.

After preparing meals in the snazzy kitchen, you have a choice of places to dine – at the breakfast bar, the eight-person dining table, or outside in the sun (that's our pick, weather permitting). 

When it's time to explore the city, you won't have to travel far to take in Copenhagen's best sites. The cobbled Kongens Nytorv square is barely a five-minute walk away, and from here Nyhavn's colourful waterfront is another short hop. Enjoy lunch with a waterfront view, then meander through the characterful streets towards Christianshavn, a unique network of small islands. This is the place to be if you're a fan of street art and intimate music venues.

You couldn’t ask for a more central spot for this Indre By apartment, set just steps from the iconic Magasin du Nord department store and a short stroll from Tivoli Gardens. Need to be someplace fast? The Metro is only minutes away, making exploring every corner of Copenhagen easy. Inside, the Scandi interiors of this light-filled home speak for themselves. That said, there are a few compromises to be made here. The main bedroom sleeps four, with both a double bed and a sofa bed, while a living room sofa bed sleeps another two. While this won’t suit everyone, it could work out great for a small family or close-knit group.

A flat roomy enough for ten people right in the city centre is pretty much unheard of, so imagine our surprise when we found this gem. With five stylish bedrooms and an amply-sized living area meant for socialising, there's enough space here for a big group to spread out and get comfortable. The kitchen isn't massive – we'd only recommend it for cooking breakfast and other light meals – but we liked the vanity area outside the bathrooms, where you can prep hair and makeup without hogging the loo. There are other touches, too – USB plugs by all the beds, an Apple TV in the living space for at-home movie nights and no single-use plastic. This building has the highest eco-certification (A15) and it's run on renewable energy, so it's as good for the environment as it is stylish. Best of all is the location – Strøget is just around the corner, with restaurants, shops, cafes and bars all right on your doorstep. You're only two minutes away from Kongens Have and Rosenborg Castle as well, perfect for strolls in the sun.

Just a five-minute walk from this apartment will take you to the City Hall Square and the central station. It's the same walking distance to Tivoli Gardens, a magical theme park with a century-old wooden roller coaster, gardens and restaurants. As with the rides at Tivoli, this apartment has some ups and downs – let's start with the good points. There's a shared garden perfect for beers in the summer, and the apartment itself is spacious. To enter the second bedroom, though, you will need to go through the third bedroom. This room doesn't have any windows but borrows light via French doors into the adjacent room, so privacy is also an issue – it’s probably fine for the kids, we would say.

It’s also family-friendly with space across two floors to stretch out and unwind. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area but this works nicely for larger groups.

It also oozes character, thanks to Sophie, our host, being a psychology student/painter – and showcasing many of her own vibrant artworks throughout the flat. She also offers an extensive fashion and art book collection for guests to choose from, plus there's a lovely private balcony for a spot of afternoon reading. Enjoy meals in the quirky dining area, with chic lighting, Eames-influenced chairs and brickwork wallpaper, that creates an industrial-styled space. Splashes of colour are painted on the home's blank canvas of wooden floors and whitewashed walls to make for a modern and artsy apartment that really packs a punch. In true Copenhagen fashion, the bathroom isn’t luxurious (it’s actually rather small), but we’re willing to look past that as the rest of the home is so charming. Outside, Frederiksberg is on the fancier side, so it’s especially ideal for someone who craves a bit of peace and quiet. You'll find upscale shops, boutiques and gourmet restaurants aplenty nearby, and you're within a five-minute walk from the Aksel Møllers Have metro station, connecting you to the rest of this ever-emerging city.

It's worth noting if four of you share, the last two guests will have to make do with the sofa bed in the living space. You'll also need to prepare for some street noise from time to time. But we'll take that for a home with such an unbeatable location.

Brimming with Scandi charm, this top-floor apartment offers a stylish base in the centre of Copenhagen. Not only are the interiors comfortable and bright, but you also have the luxury of a private balcony with views of neighbouring red rooftops.

In this home, you'll feel a tangible sense of calm among the nude-toned furnishings and smooth textures. Wake up and prepare a coffee and Danish pastry in the sleek high-spec kitchen, then glide outside for a leisurely breakfast in the sun. After a morning of lounging in the homely living space, head downstairs and step straight into the city centre.

The widely photographed Nyhavn harbour, flanked by colourful buildings, is just a five-minute walk away. Looking for a central location near Copenhagen's landmarks? This minimalist apartment is a great choice. In five minutes, you can walk to the Royal Palace, Nyhavn, and Strøget, the famous shopping street. The design may be pared-back, but it's done well. There's an eat-in kitchen but no proper living area, so you'll need to unwind around the table. It's also on the third floor and doesn't have a lift. Still, we think being in such a convenient spot is worth it.

Embrace the laid-back maritime atmosphere of the neighbourhood during your stay at this unique, open-plan apartment. Its enviable location on the top floor means that it offers enviable views over the area, but it's illuminated from both sides, providing you with plenty of natural light to enjoy throughout the day. Not that you'll be in much with the delights on your doorstep.

Made up of a collection of small islands, Christianshavn is best known for its cafe culture and canals lined with colourful boats. You're just 500m from the alternative hotspot of Freetown Christiania, while the super impressive Copenhagen Opera House is a couple of kilometres away (it's hard to imagine two more dramatically different cultural centres). Further north, Copenhagen Street Food is ten minutes by bike, where you can sample inventive international cuisine. For travellers interested in design, atmosphere and culture, it doesn't get much better than Christianshavn.

After a day spent exploring the area, head back home for dinner cooked in the well-equipped kitchen and a chance to put your feet up on the sofa. Then, when your eyes start to get heavy, take yourself off to the cosy bedroom for a fantastic night's sleep.

Down the Golden Stairs

Situated in the heart of Copenhagen, this apartment provides a perfectly practical space for groups visiting the city. Tivoli Gardens is less than a ten-minute walk away, while nearby Ørstedsparken is a great spot for escaping the city buzz. The master bedroom can be set up with twin single beds upon request and the double sofa bed adds flexibility. Just keep in mind that the second bedroom is partly open to the living area, so it lacks some privacy. Otherwise, the two large bathrooms will help to speed mornings along, so you can head out and spend more time exploring all that the Danish capital has to offer.

As expected for an 18th-century Copenhagen home, the layout of this large and oh-so-stylish studio is a little kooky. One bedroom with a handy desk nook is tucked into the eaves on a mezzanine, so it's not the most private of spaces. The living area, which houses a sofa bed for two guests, forms part of the main bedroom. And while the balcony is a bonus, it's pocket-sized. But you can't quibble with the location. Set slap bang in the middle of Indre By, you're within walking distance of all the city's must-sees. Get off to a flying start at the shopping mecca of Strøget – it's right outside your door. Just note that this is a central, noisy area – light sleepers may want to pack earplugs.

Nordic Dream

Chic and stylish, this apartment makes for an excellent base in Copenhagen. You’ll have everything you need here for a city break, including a fully-equipped kitchen with a Nespresso machine. At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living space – those planning long-term stays might be more comfortable with a guest count of four. The apartment is perfectly located for sightseeing, with Amalienborg Palace and Nyhavn just five minutes away. Those hoping for a spot of retail therapy will be delighted to be so close to Strøget.

A bohemian atmosphere meets Japanese zen in this striking home. We particularly love all the original features including the wooden beams, exposed brick walls (and even the creaky floors), which mix beautifully with the hosts’ collection of books and vintage furniture. Since the apartment was renovated in 2013, it has been featured in several lifestyle magazines for its charming design aesthetic. Spread across three floors, unique quirks include the rather rustic ladders that take you up to the second and third floors. Curl up in a cosy corner with a book in hand and live the scene of what seems like it could be a fictional dream. Alongside world literature, the host also supplies guests with access to gym equipment, should you wish to keep up with your fitness routine while visiting Copenhagen. Around the apartment, the immediate area feels very local – the Christianshavn canals are just two minutes away, and so are plenty of restaurants. All in all, it's safe to say that this home is perfectly out of the ordinary.

It’s not the most characterful home on our books, but we like that it feels welcoming and bright. The kitchen is definitely the highlight – it’s large, modern, and well-equipped for cooking.

Three Daughters merges old-world Copenhagen with modern family life. It has high ceilings and unbelievable stucco (straight out of a fairytale castle), and yet it feels very twenty-first-century Copenhagen. The fact that it’s a family home is evident in every corner (we noticed quite a few pen scribbles on the walls, original artworks courtesy of the three children). With its green parks and wide boulevards, Frederiksberg is great for families. Frederiksberg Gardens are very close, and Copenhagen Zoo is just a twenty-minute walk away.

There’s no place like home… Until you’ve stayed in Master of Light that is. Casual luxury at its finest, it’s Copenhagen at its best. The location is extraordinary – you’re right besides Nyhavn, the city’s most famous postcard motif. And we can’t get over the design. Alexander clearly has a passion for Danish design, with works by Bang & Olufsen and Hans J. Wegner adorning every corner. There’s also a fantastic rooftop terrace with a nine-person hot tub, sun beds and a lounge arrangement, plus fantastic views of Copenhagen's historic buildings.
