With all of Copenhagen's best bits within easy strolling distance, the location of this central Indre By apartment is hard to beat. While we can't fault the light-filled, Scandi interiors of the living area and bedrooms, the kitchen and bathroom set-up might be too compact for some. It's also worth noting that at full occupancy, the last two guests will be sharing a sofa bed in the lounge. But we're willing to let that slide for a home with such a spot-on location.

The kitchen isn't the biggest and there is some adult-themed artwork, but otherwise, it's a cosy option in the heart of the city.

Locations really don’t get much better than this. It's rare to find a property this close by to the picture-perfect Nyhavn district, with its brightly coloured gabled townhouses. Find a sunny spot outside at a quayside café or hop on a boat for one of the many canal tours that start here. As the evening draws in, take a pre-dinner stroll along the waterfront, then duck into one of the many restaurants and bars that line the canal.  You could call in on the Queen too, she lives just around the corner. And when it’s finally time to retreat inside, you’ll find a contemporary place that invites you to be social. The communal area is the heart of the home, offering plenty of space for your tribe to hang out, cook, and eat. The industrial-style windows flood natural light through the apartment by day, while the plush velvet curtains allow privacy at night when it’s time for some shut-eye.

There are thoughtful touches like vintage illustrated posters hanging on the wall above comfortable furniture from New Scandinavian Design maestros, Bolia. The glass-walled bedrooms are definitely a novel touch and create a strong impact. They certainly won't be to everyone's taste, but all have velvet curtains to pull across for some privacy when needed. With views onto Copenhagen's main shopping street, Strøget, you couldn't be better placed to hit the luxury boutiques and independent shops when the mood takes you. Plus, you're not far from the colourful waterside bars and restaurants of Nyhavn or the high culture of the Royal Danish Theatre – a little over a five-minute walk away.

You're right in the thick of things at this smart downtown apartment, perched along Copenhagen's shopping mecca of Strøget. The metro is just 100 metres from your door, though we doubt you'll need it with buzzy Nyhavn Harbour and countless happening restaurants and cosy cafes within walking distance. It's worth noting if four of you share, the last two guests will have to make do with the sofa bed in the living space. You'll also need to prepare for some street noise from time to time. But we'll take that for a home with such an unbeatable location.

Strøget Delight

Tucked back from the hustle and bustle of the ever-popular harbourside hotspot of Nyhavn, this spectacular apartment ranks among our favourites in the city. 

A large open-plan living area is the focal point of any stay here, with a sleek handleless kitchen, a typically stylish mid-century dining table and chairs, plus a comfortable seating area. It's lined with windows along one side, letting in plenty of natural light during the day. When night falls, elegant pendant lights illuminate the space.

Stride out into the picturesque pocket of the city. This 17th-century canal, lined with colourful houses and stunning sailboats, continuously tops lists of Copenhagen's must-see sights, and it's easy to see why. But, while it may attract the tourists, there's no doubt that the locals love it just as much, and you'd be hard-pushed to find a better spot in the city to enjoy a cold beer on a warm summer's afternoon.

To the east, a bridge connects you to the cafes and canals of Christianshavn and the hippie haven of Christiania, where quirky self-built homes line the lake. While to the west lie Copenhagen's pedestrianised shopping streets and the low-key creative cool of Kødbyen, also known as the Meatpacking District, a ten-minute bike ride away.

There are great public transport links and paid parking is available at a location nearby. Minimalists will appreciate the simple details of this apartment. It’s also family-friendly with space across two floors to stretch out and unwind. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area but this works nicely for larger groups.

When it's time to explore the city, you won't have to travel far to take in Copenhagen's best sites. The cobbled Kongens Nytorv square is barely a five-minute walk away, and from here Nyhavn's colourful waterfront is another short hop. Enjoy lunch with a waterfront view, then meander through the characterful streets towards Christianshavn, a unique network of small islands. This is the place to be if you're a fan of street art and intimate music venues.

View From the Afternoon

Sitting right along the banks of Bryggen Syd, this apartment provides a sleek space for families and groups visiting Copenhagen. Now, we think the best way to explore the city is on foot or by bike, though there’s free street parking nearby too. From here, you can swim off Bådelaug Havnestad, enjoy drinks in Christianshavn or soak up some culture in Indre By. The interiors are modern with plenty of light thanks to the glass sliding doors, and we love how the sofa converts to a bed should you be visiting as a larger group. Just keep in mind that this is in the living area, so it lacks some privacy. 


Bryggen Beauty

Just a five-minute walk from this apartment will take you to the City Hall Square and the central station. It's the same walking distance to Tivoli Gardens, a magical theme park with a century-old wooden roller coaster, gardens and restaurants. As with the rides at Tivoli, this apartment has some ups and downs – let's start with the good points. There's a shared garden perfect for beers in the summer, and the apartment itself is spacious. To enter the second bedroom, though, you will need to go through the third bedroom. This room doesn't have any windows but borrows light via French doors into the adjacent room, so privacy is also an issue – it’s probably fine for the kids, we would say.

There’s no place like home… Until you’ve stayed in Master of Light that is. Casual luxury at its finest, it’s Copenhagen at its best. The location is extraordinary – you’re right besides Nyhavn, the city’s most famous postcard motif. And we can’t get over the design. Alexander clearly has a passion for Danish design, with works by Bang & Olufsen and Hans J. Wegner adorning every corner. There’s also a fantastic rooftop terrace with a nine-person hot tub, sun beds and a lounge arrangement, plus fantastic views of Copenhagen's historic buildings.



Master of Light

This contemporary apartment offers two commodities that are rare in a capital city – spacious rooms and a roof terrace. When you combine that with the ridiculously central location, it becomes evident why this is such a hidden gem.

Step out of the apartment door and all the must-visit areas are within walking distance. For sumptuous seafood surrounded by carefree locals, typically singing along to jazz songs, head to the buoyant borough of Nyhavn. Here, you can enjoy quintessentially Danish dishes whilst admiring the picturesque views of the harbour. 
 
Alongside a quaint harbour and inviting restaurants, Copenhagen offers a top-class shopping scene. Browse every store in the Magasin Du Nord, a mammoth shopping centre showcasing every type of Scandinavian style. The Great Dane

If you're looking for amusement on your city break, how about this home? It's just around the corner from Tivoli Gardens, a theme park with a century-old wooden roller coaster. If you're not after an adrenaline rush, gardens and fantastic restaurants are also nearby. Like the park rides, this apartment has many highs and a few lows. The lift takes you right to the top floor, and we love the characteristic beams. At full capacity, though, there's only one bathroom between eight people – you’d better work out a rota for the mornings.

Heritage Haven

You couldn’t ask for a more central spot for this Indre By apartment, set just steps from the iconic Magasin du Nord department store and a short stroll from Tivoli Gardens. Need to be someplace fast? The Metro is only minutes away, making exploring every corner of Copenhagen easy. Inside, the Scandi interiors of this light-filled home speak for themselves. That said, there are a few compromises to be made here. The main bedroom sleeps four, with both a double bed and a sofa bed, while a living room sofa bed sleeps another two. While this won’t suit everyone, it could work out great for a small family or close-knit group.

This Vesterbro apartment is a family home with a capital F. It’s both playful and creative in the way it blends colour and its architectural solutions, making this a truly unique sanctuary in the middle of the city. Little ones will love having their own space in the bunk room, with plenty of books, games and toys to keep them occupied. We also love how the master bedroom feels a little like the hideouts we dreamt of when we were kids – because who said the little ones get to have all the fun? Positively brimming with colour and personality, this funky pad is Danish hygge at its best. It also oozes character, thanks to Sophie, our host, being a psychology student/painter – and showcasing many of her own vibrant artworks throughout the flat. She also offers an extensive fashion and art book collection for guests to choose from, plus there's a lovely private balcony for a spot of afternoon reading. Enjoy meals in the quirky dining area, with chic lighting, Eames-influenced chairs and brickwork wallpaper, that creates an industrial-styled space. Splashes of colour are painted on the home's blank canvas of wooden floors and whitewashed walls to make for a modern and artsy apartment that really packs a punch. In true Copenhagen fashion, the bathroom isn’t luxurious (it’s actually rather small), but we’re willing to look past that as the rest of the home is so charming. Outside, Frederiksberg is on the fancier side, so it’s especially ideal for someone who craves a bit of peace and quiet. You'll find upscale shops, boutiques and gourmet restaurants aplenty nearby, and you're within a five-minute walk from the Aksel Møllers Have metro station, connecting you to the rest of this ever-emerging city.

As expected for an 18th-century Copenhagen home, the layout of this large and oh-so-stylish studio is a little kooky. One bedroom with a handy desk nook is tucked into the eaves on a mezzanine, so it's not the most private of spaces. The living area, which houses a sofa bed for two guests, forms part of the main bedroom. And while the balcony is a bonus, it's pocket-sized. But you can't quibble with the location. Set slap bang in the middle of Indre By, you're within walking distance of all the city's must-sees. Get off to a flying start at the shopping mecca of Strøget – it's right outside your door. Just note that this is a central, noisy area – light sleepers may want to pack earplugs.

Looking for a central location near Copenhagen's landmarks? This minimalist apartment is a great choice. In five minutes, you can walk to the Royal Palace, Nyhavn, and Strøget, the famous shopping street. The design may be pared-back, but it's done well. There's an eat-in kitchen but no proper living area, so you'll need to unwind around the table. It's also on the third floor and doesn't have a lift. Still, we think being in such a convenient spot is worth it.
