We think families will have a blast here – your host can provide a free cot to make travelling with little ones a breeze, though children will need supervision around the unfenced infinity pool. There's plenty of outdoor seating on the astroturf for sunbathing and enjoying a drink by the summer kitchen, and lots of space to park. We think you'll need a car here to get the most out of this fantastic location – the city of Murcia is around an hour away, along with the region's golden coastline.

Surrounded by the Sierra Espuña, you're unlikely to encounter anyone else in this remote spot, but if you're missing the bustle of the coast, it's a 45-minute drive to Puerto de Mazarrón. Nearer your home, the village of Aledo is home to an impressive Moorish castle worth exploring, or you might walk the hiking trails in the Sierra Espuña. While the decor isn’t the most exciting in our collection, the home nonetheless benefits from a communal pool area – as well as a children’s pool for little ones – and beautifully manicured gardens with sea views. You’ll also find bars and the promenade within 500 metres, Altea within 2 kilometres, not to mention plenty of outdoor activities on hand nearby, including hiking, cycling, kayaking, fishing, diving, snorkelling and waterskiing.

An ideal setting for large family gatherings, this sprawling homestead is made up of four separate buildings. Alongside the main house, there's a casita ideal for kids and a wooden lodge for those wanting extra privacy – though some people will sleep on sofa beds. Our favourite is the summer kitchen, where all twenty-three guests can tuck into tapas together. The pool will also be a big hit, even if there are only eight loungers. Location-wise, you'll be 22 kilometres from the beach in Guardamar del Segura. Also within driving distance is Alicante if you want to explore further afield.

Alicante Enchantress

Sitting in the heart of Altea's charming Old Town, this apartment will appeal to anyone in search of a relaxing coastal escape with plenty of outside space and far-reaching sea views. Here, you’ll have access to a huge range of shared facilities. The swimming pools are all lush for cooling off from the hot Spanish sunshine, while the hot tubs and sauna are great places to relax and de-stress. There’s a tennis court for when you fancy a few games, as well as ping pong tables for more casual fun. There’s also an on-site shared gym so you can keep up with your fitness routine. 

The complex is based right next to Poniente beach, so you’re just a stone’s throw away from beautiful white sands, palm trees and blue seas. There are plenty of lovely restaurants along the beachfront serving up authentic Spanish cuisine, plus welcoming bars where you can enjoy a glass of Sangria in the sunshine.

With archaeological sites and historic fortresses sitting alongside bustling streets of cafés and bars, this town is a vibrant community in the sun – and of course there’s a fabulous beach. Just a six-minute walk from Playa el Arenal-Bol, this modern apartment is a perfect urban retreat. 

Looking up from below at this striking white building, it almost has the nautical feel of a towering, luxury yacht. It's plain to see that somebody with a real eye for design has worked their magic on this townhouse found in the coastal town of Calp. Everywhere you look inside, there are tasteful touches, from the dining table made from a repurposed door and the unashamedly bright colours on the walls to the sheer range of objets d'art dotted about the home.

We're also happy to say that there's plenty of substance behind this style. The sleek black kitchen not only looks the part, but it's also well-equipped for whipping up a feast. We're also fond of the terrace, which has views out over the rooftops and verdant hillsides beyond.

When you're ready to get to know the locale a little better, you'll be surprised at how much there is to see. All of three minutes' walk from the home is Torreó de la Peça, the centuries-old defensive walls built to protect the town from marauders. Arena-Bol beach is a ten-minute walk, while further along the coastline, it's possible to head up to the top of Penyal d'Ifac in just over an hour on foot for some incredible views.

The views are lovely, and the sand is steps away, though the location does mean you can expect some outside noise. That said, parties and loud groups aren't allowed, so we think couples, friends, and families will settle right in. Your host can provide a cot and high chair for little ones, while the kitchen is more than equipped for whipping up large family meals. On-site parking is also available, but public transport is easily accessible for exploring all Benidorm has to offer.

This no-frills apartment is just 150 metres from the sandy shores of Benidorm's Playa de Levante. The location in the old town is fantastic – restaurants, shops, and bars are all steps away – though that does mean it can get a little noisy at night. Back home, there isn't any outdoor space, but the floor-to-ceiling windows act as an internal balcony, making it an excellent spot to savour a glass of wine and watch the world pass by. One guest will sleep on a sofa bed, and only the living area has air conditioning (the bedrooms have fans). That said, it does the trick for a central pad a short stroll from the beach.

Levante Love

Located just 200 metres from the popular sandy shores of Poniente Beach, this modern and stylish holiday apartment for up to six guests offers a compact though comfortable and cosy home away from home close to the many attractions and amenities of exuberant Benidorm.

This detached villa lies in a residential area close to the sandy beaches of Calpe. While the decor is a little dated, this home is well-equipped for outdoor living. Vibrant vegetation and palms surround the private pool, and you'll find space to lounge, tan and dine under the sun. This home is entirely on the first floor and accessed via stairs, so guests with limited mobility will want to look elsewhere. But the balcony offers gorgeous elevated views, and the fireplace inside is perfect for cosy evenings. 

Tower in the Palms

This coastal pet-friendly apartment has a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with one of Guardamar's golden sandy beaches right on your doorstep. The furnishings are a little dated, and we think the place could do with an update, but being on the fifth floor ensures you'll have lovely views. We recommend having a car here for day trips up to the cities of Alicante or Elche, but Centre Beach, as well as Guardamar's local shops, cafes and restaurants, are all within walking distance.

Sea Breeze Heaven

This grand villa sits in an incredible position, just outside the shambling hilltop village of Finestrat. Dramatic views of forest-clad mountains run down to the ocean (it’s a 15-minute drive down to the sandy beach at Cala Finestrat).
