We love that each bedroom has its own en-suite, and how many of them open onto a terrace, so you can go from snoozing to sunbathing in moments. We also love the location – just ten minutes in the car from Cadaqués, which former resident Salvador Dalí once called “the best place in the world”. It’s easy to agree when you’re wandering the whitewashed streets of this pretty seaside town – especially when you’re staying in such a heavenly home.

In the charming fishing port of L'Escala, the rooftop terrace of this bright and breezy villa gives you a panoramic view over the Bay of Roses. Up here, above the rooftops of the colourful town, you’ll find a turquoise plunge pool offering respite on hot days, and deck chairs to enjoy the view. Dinner can be taken on the terrace at the table for eight, and glass fold-away doors blend the dining terrace with the open-plan living room. Rattan furnishings and driftwood touches bring the beachy vibe inside and pristine white walls are livened up with sea-glass bottles and rare seashells. It’s a five-minute walk to the seafront where boats land the freshest seafood at the harbour, and a ten-minute walk sees you at the sandy stretch of beach at Platja del Rec. Explore the town on foot and dine on the catch of the day, or stock up on fresh fish and sun-ripened fruit and veg and cook in the vintage-chic kitchen back home.

When you start to miss civilization, though, you're just 15 minutes from La Bisbal d'Empordà, a town with shops and eateries, and close to some of Costa Brava's most beautiful beaches.

Location-wise, Pals Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away and the town of La Bisbal d'Empordà is reached in fifteen.

A day at the beach is possible at the secret bays of Cala del Crit and Cala el Golfet, both sandy coves hidden between the cliffs.

But we wouldn’t blame you if you ended up spending all your time at this luxurious, old-world villa instead. Sun terraces and shaded nooks offer sunseekers and wallflowers alike a place to spend the day. The fountain-fed Roman swimming pool invites you for a dip on a hot day and, wandering the expansive grounds, you’ll stumble across a tennis court and games area with ping pong. Outdoor dining is a treat with a huge table for the whole group in front of the summer kitchen and, if you’re hosting a special event, a marquee can be set up on the lawn.

The foundations of this home date back to the 14th century, and inside you can still get a feel for the medieval in the vaulted basement where you’ve got your own private spa. Down here, there’s an indoor swimming pool, steam room and sauna. Various lounges and sitting rooms allow the whole group to spread out and our favourite has to be the Rib-vaulted grand lounge with its Baroque painted ceiling harking back to a bygone era. Located on the coastal path between Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell, this property is in one of the most beautiful areas of the Costa Brava. The sea views are expansive and lovely, and there is a small jetty on the lowest level of the home that grants access to Llafranc beach. You might hear some noise from neighbours due to the close-knit manner of the area's buildings, but you're within walking distance of several Llafranc restaurants, and it's easy to enjoy an authentic Spanish stay from this charming home.

Gaudi might be famous for his work in Barcelona, but that hasn't stopped this home taking inspiration from the famous Catalan architect. A 200-year-old farmhouse has been turned into a slick, white-washed hangout. Modernist influences are seen in the rounded walls, arched doorways, and buckled pillars. The living room is far out, from the white pool and foosball tables to the huge semi-circular sofa. The master suite is the most impressive, sending out spaceship vibes with its round bed, droplet shaped fireplace and spacious curved bath. But not even the slinky interiors can compete with Mother Nature, as views over the hills and out to the sea abound from every angle. The garden has been planted with bougainvillea, which showers archways and dining tables with pink blossoms when it blooms. For special occasions, head to the home's club room, complete with a DJ hut and incredible sound system. Life will feel pretty amazing floating in the infinity pool or sipping cocktails on the terrace.

Although there’s enough bed space for five, we think the home is best suited for four adults and a child. 

The Warmth of the Sun

Say hello to one very swanky cube. Just a ten-minute drive from Lloret de Mar with its world-class beaches and electric nightlife, this home offers you peace and tranquillity while still being close to the action. Inside, you’ll find wooden floors, cool, contemporary furnishings and vibrant pops of colour that brilliantly offset the whitewashed walls. The real wow factor is the living space’s wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows though – take in views over Canyelles’ shimmering bay from your sofa, or better yet, head to the upstairs terrace to enjoy breakfast while feasting on the vistas. Afternoons call for lazing by the pool and soaking up the sun on one of the many loungers, while the little ones will love the play area and the dedicated children’s bedroom full of soft toys. Drive less than ten minutes to sandy Platja de Canyelles to dip your toes in the sea before coming back home for a soak in the sunken tub followed by a barbecue feast. When it’s time to turn in, watch the moon rise over the hills from the bedroom’s letterbox windows or private terraces before falling into a wonderfully peaceful night’s sleep.

Situated in a residential area just 450m from the pretty beach of Platja Canadell, this home is a great spot on the Costa Brava coastline. Though the house feels a little dated in parts, it offers a comfortable space to unwind when the midday Mediterranean sun reaches its peak – then again, there’s the outdoor pool to cool off in too. Make the most of the built-in barbecue and dine alfresco or walk the coastal path to Llafranc for a memorable meal along the seafront.

Even before entering the house, we fell under the spell of its surroundings – the glistening pool, the stunning views, the huge garden, and the outdoor dining area, inviting you to plan those magical alfresco feasts that go on long into the warm, Spanish nights. You’ll enjoy absolute privacy and tranquillity here, the perfect setting to catch up on your holiday reads and relax in one of the many sun loungers dotted about. 

Come inside and be prepared for a beautiful treat – what the home’s façade promises with its old-world glamour, the interior more than delivers. We love the stone and wood details, the unique art pieces and furnishings, and the cosy, inviting ambience. There is more than enough space to snuggle up and enjoy a movie night or an afternoon of wine and conversation, with an ornamental fireplace to add to that homely feel. 

The bedrooms, situated upstairs, are another highlight: with plush, comfy beds, timelessly stylish furnishings, and beautiful wooden floors, you’re guaranteed a restful sleep. 

Whenever you feel like exploring, there is an abundance of activities to be enjoyed in the area – from cycling and horse riding, to exploring the charming town of Calonge and the stunning beaches of the Costa Brava, just five and ten minutes away by car respectively.

Perfectly positioned on a hillside, a ten-minute drive from the pretty town of Begur, this villa is all about sea views and laidback living. Your days will be spent on your private terrace, soaking up every last drop of the Costa Brava sunshine. Perhaps you’ll settle into a lounger with an ice-cold beverage in hand or maybe you’ll swim gentle laps in the glittering pool. When it’s time to eat, set the table on the balcony ready for a Catalan feast whipped up in the no-frills kitchen and if you’d like a quiet moment with your holiday read, the window seat in the bright living space is an excellent spot. Stretch your legs with a twenty-five-minute walk to Sa Tuna, an idyllic cove with a sandy beach – it was our favourite spot to while away the long afternoons. Head home before dusk with a bottle of Cava and watch the sunset melt into the ocean from your enviable vantage point.

Girasol

Plonked right on the Torremirona golf course, this home is a perfect base from which to explore the densely forested landscapes of the Paratge Natural l'Albera and Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa, both within an hour's drive. There is also plenty to do right on your doorstep, from quaint shops to bakeries and butchers. If you're chasing the waves, there are sandy beaches a short drive away with access to water sports, as well as a skydiving centre if you really are chasing the rush. After a day packed with activities, return home to your villa and kick back on the comfortable patio chairs. The light, bright interiors are filled with eclectic art and sculpture, though we wouldn't blame you for abandoning them in favour of the pool. Cook up dinner at the outdoor stove, and don't forget the sangria.

Experience Vilaür living in this beautifully restored 18th-century Pajar house. The private terrace offers an idyllic entryway to this charming two-story abode, as well as a spot for golden hour sundowners. Spread over two floors (prepare to climb some stairs), the ground floor features a beamed living area with a double sofa bed to accommodate your third and fourth guests.
