Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

Fabulously located in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of many of Barcelona's key sights, with a beautiful living space full of lovely period details and a spacious master-bedroom with its own private terrace, this home is a delight. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

And you’re in the right neighbourhood to do so. The surrounding streets are archetypical of El Born - Barcelona’s ‘It’ neighbourhood, don’t you know. You’re only two minutes from heaps of trendy bars, coffee shops, and independent boutiques, as well as the imposing Basilica of Santa Maria Del Mar. Start your day with a spot of people watching at an outdoor café before heading on to one of the many sights located nearby.  The lively streets of Plaça Catalunya, Les Rambles, and the Gothic Quarter are all just a fifteen-minute walk away – as is the city’s sandy beach. Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, on the other hand, are a ten-minute walk away or visit one of Barcelona's most iconic attractions, the Sagrada Familia, just over twenty minutes on foot.

Back at this home, open the French doors to the balcony and have a seat on the comfy sofa after all that sightseeing. We love the high ceilings here and traditional wall mouldings. There's a gorgeous, modern four-poster bed as well – this place is perfect for a couple or friends looking for a bolt hole in Barcelona.

We love this home's elegant design aesthetic. In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Two balconies – one at the front and one at the back of this apartment – provide beautiful views of the neighbourhood and you can even see a little bit of the sea on sunny days. Up on the top floor, natural light floods the rooms. The open living space in soft grey and teal velvet is particularly sunny. Glass doors lead out to the front terrace where waxy green banana leaves sprout from planters and dining is set for four. There’s a lazy hammock in the corner too, so you can take in that rooftop view all the way to the Sagrada Familia. You'll be able to plan your holiday from the comfort of the terrace as Barcelona spreads like a map before you. Located only minutes away from Plaça Catalunya, you'll have easy access to all parts of the city.

Located on Rambla Catalunya – Barcelona’s main shopping street – this apartment puts you in a prime position to explore the city’s many central bars, restaurants and boutiques. Given its spot in the heart of the action, you may need to contend with some street noise throughout your stay. But there’s plenty to appreciate inside, not least of all the pad’s private terrace – perfect for sunny breakfasts and evening glasses of wine. The decor isn’t the most inspiring here but a sizeable kitchen will be appreciated by chefs of the group. And the home’s locale close to Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Plaça de Catalunya makes sightseeing a cinch.

Go shopping on Passeig de Gràcia, picnic in Ciutadella Park or marvel at the Sagrada Familia – all less than a twenty-minute stroll from your doorstep. 

Inside, spacious rooms flaunt high ceilings, large windows and stylish decor, while contemporary amenities promise a want-for-nothing stay. We especially love the balcony. Offering leafy views, this is the perfect place to sunbathe. Home chefs will appreciate the fully-equipped kitchen, where a breakfast bar beckons for mornings roosted here, sipping quick coffees before slipping out for breakfast – we recommend the croissants from the little cafe downstairs.

This wonderful home is located between the districts of the Gothic Quarter and Raval. It's right on the iconic Las Ramblas with its street performers, cafes, restaurants, markets and shops, and it's close to some more of Barcelona's most famous streets. Pedestrianised Calle Ferrán, which leads to the Barcelona City Hall and Plaça Reial, one of the city's most beautiful squares, are both nearby.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

Built with respect for the environment, this bright home is an ideal base for eco-conscious guests looking for a comfortable, central stay in the city. While the home dates back to 1900, it’s been brought into sparkling 21st-style with an interior that reflects eco-design principles and respects Catalan Modernism. Arriving at its yellow entrance, this standout block is built in a traditional, Spanish Colonial style. This old-world grandeur continues through the front door, in majestic hardwood, with a solid marble staircase leading up to your apartment – but the interiors are a pleasant contrast.

Pout yourself a tempranillo and take a wander around this modern, Scandi-style home. Huge windows lined with railings along a balconette are perfect for peering over with your wine glass in hand. The zen-like lounge offers somewhere understated and calming for you to relax in after exploring the bustling locale. We didn't expect to find a home like this in an unassuming building like the one that hides the Trojan Horse. It's obvious that an interior designer was involved in the curation of this stylish home — there's a consistent theme of industrial chic, that's best expressed by the bare brick wall and sleek lampshades. There's an abundance of natural light with two balconies extending the clutter-free and clean living space and helping this relatively small home maximise its assets. Find a sunny reading spot by the window on a Wegner-inspired chair and gather around the vibrant dining area for convivial coffee and churros – we loved the bright yellow chairs. Both bedrooms benefit from tasteful scatter cushions, throws and quirky headboards that make for a light and airy spot to relax with a magazine. From Gràcia, all the major sights are well within walking distance, including the Sagrada Familia under twenty minutes away. Explore the local neighbourhood, stopping off at its trendy cafes and family-run eateries – wherever you are, a jug of sangria and a plate of paella are never too far from hand.

Housed in a Belle Epoque, 19th-century building this apartment's interior is just as striking as the outside. A steady theme of chocolatey tones paired with minimalistic furnishings made us feel like we were in the home of a deep thinker. Still, there are small details that breathe some warmth into the flat – the Catalan hydraulic tiles on the floor, the modern art on the walls, and the red velvet seats on the balcony. The balcony has a perfect people-watching view over the leafy boulevard below. The kitchen as black as backstage at a theatre and dramatically downlit, but it's not all style over substance as the cupboards are packed with everything you could want for self-catering. Should you need to catch up on work, the second bedroom doubles as an office. When it comes to clocking off you couldn't be better placed with Passeig de Gracia one block away, where Gaudí's masterpiece 'La Pedrera' and famous hotels like Omm and Hotel Casa Fuster reside. The apartment itself is in the 'Cuadrat d'Or' (Golden Square), an area packed with bars, restaurants and high-end shops galore.

Located just off the famous Barceloneta beach, Windclass Blue is a solid home for those seeking a relaxing beachside retreat. In the evenings, the Port Vell's nearby promenade is filled with great restaurants and cafes, but if you walk the other way towards Poblenou, you won't be hungry either. This is a simple, luminous home, whose design is focused more on functionality than aesthetics. Still, the beautiful view and comfort make it a good option for a small family or a group of friends.

If you wish to stay as a group of ten, it’s worth noting there’s not enough comfortable seating, and it’s a bit of a squeeze around the dining table for that many people. The small balcony is a nice spot to enjoy a sundowner, and the kitchen is well-appointed for self-catering.
