Speaking of, getting to and fro the golden sands and turquoise waters for water sports and sunbathing is easy, so you’ll have no trouble popping back to the terrace for lunch. The canals of the surrounding town, known as the Venice of Spain, are one of its defining attributes, so when you’re not with the kids engaging in activities, you can head out on a nightlife scene as vibrant and luxurious as some of Europe’s other seaside destinations.

The master suite is the most impressive, sending out spaceship vibes with its round bed, droplet shaped fireplace and spacious curved bath. But not even the slinky interiors can compete with Mother Nature, as views over the hills and out to the sea abound from every angle. The garden has been planted with bougainvillea, which showers archways and dining tables with pink blossoms when it blooms. For special occasions, head to the home's club room, complete with a DJ hut and incredible sound system. Life will feel pretty amazing floating in the infinity pool or sipping cocktails on the terrace.

When it comes to mealtimes, we recommend calling upon the help of your host to arrange for a private chef to take care of dinner. Inside, beds can be configured as doubles or twins upon request and there’s an office for anyone who’s mixing business with pleasure. Location-wise, Pals Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away and the town of La Bisbal d'Empordà is reached in fifteen.

The countryside around this grand, Catalan mansion looks like a painting with verdant green forests meeting wildflower meadows. The view from the arched windows of the living room, across the green hills to the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, is a reminder that you’re just a ten-minute drive from the coast here. A day at the beach is possible at the secret bays of Cala del Crit and Cala el Golfet, both sandy coves hidden between the cliffs.

But we wouldn’t blame you if you ended up spending all your time at this luxurious, old-world villa instead. Sun terraces and shaded nooks offer sunseekers and wallflowers alike a place to spend the day. The fountain-fed Roman swimming pool invites you for a dip on a hot day and, wandering the expansive grounds, you’ll stumble across a tennis court and games area with ping pong. Outdoor dining is a treat with a huge table for the whole group in front of the summer kitchen and, if you’re hosting a special event, a marquee can be set up on the lawn.

The foundations of this home date back to the 14th century, and inside you can still get a feel for the medieval in the vaulted basement where you’ve got your own private spa. Down here, there’s an indoor swimming pool, steam room and sauna. Various lounges and sitting rooms allow the whole group to spread out and our favourite has to be the Rib-vaulted grand lounge with its Baroque painted ceiling harking back to a bygone era. Perhaps spend the evening taking it back to analogue in the library or snooker room.

This lovely home in Llafranc is perfect for those looking for absolute rest and relaxation. Boasting countryside views, this home is close to the beach and the bars of the town, while being nicely removed from tourist traps. Llafranc is a quiet part of Spain on the Costa Brava, with a stunning coastline and gorgeous beaches. 

The home is bright and cheerful, with bold splashes of colour that add warmth to the neutral palette. Your eye will most often be drawn outside, through the floor-to-ceiling windows that lead onto the large terrace. Trees surround the home, making it feel nicely secluded despite being part of a resort. 

When you’re not by the shared swimming pool – which is huge and inviting – you’ll likely spend most of your time on the terrace. There are sun loungers so sun-worshippers will be content, and there’s a lovely dining area too. You might like to drive fourteen minutes to beautiful Calella de Palafrugell for lunch by the water, and then spend your evenings grilling up local seafood on the barbecue. 

The clear water and soft sand of Platja El Cau are a seven-minute walk away, so days at the beach couldn’t be easier. To really take in the glorious coastline, walk ten minutes to the viewpoint at Mirador de la Divina Pastora. It’s a wonderful spot for sunset.

Located on the coastal path between Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell, this property is in one of the most beautiful areas of the Costa Brava. The sea views are expansive and lovely, and there is a small jetty on the lowest level of the home that grants access to Llafranc beach. You might hear some noise from neighbours due to the close-knit manner of the area's buildings, but you're within walking distance of several Llafranc restaurants, and it's easy to enjoy an authentic Spanish stay from this charming home.

Head home before dusk with a bottle of Cava and watch the sunset melt into the ocean from your enviable vantage point.

Situated in the charming Catalan village of Sant Mori, this elegant apartment is perfect for a small family or for couples visiting this picturesque area. You’ll be within walking distance of the town’s shops and restaurants, with plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed too. The home has a large private garden, a pool, and a shaded alfresco dining area. The inside feels bright and comfy, offering a modern design and plenty of light. Although there’s enough bed space for five, we think the home is best suited for four adults and a child.
