Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

And when it comes to sightseeing, you don't have far to venture from your front door. The mighty Sagrada Familia is less than a quarter of an hour's walk, as is Parc de la Ciutadella in the opposite direction. You're especially well served by cafes and restaurants in the surrounding streets, too.

Fabulously located in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of many of Barcelona's key sights, with a beautiful living space full of lovely period details and a spacious master-bedroom with its own private terrace, this home is a delight. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

Start your day with a spot of people watching at an outdoor café before heading on to one of the many sights located nearby.  The lively streets of Plaça Catalunya, Les Rambles, and the Gothic Quarter are all just a fifteen-minute walk away – as is the city’s sandy beach. Your only conundrum will be deciding where to head first.

Given its spot in the heart of the action, you may need to contend with some street noise throughout your stay. But there’s plenty to appreciate inside, not least of all the pad’s private terrace – perfect for sunny breakfasts and evening glasses of wine. The decor isn’t the most inspiring here but a sizeable kitchen will be appreciated by chefs of the group. And the home’s locale close to Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Plaça de Catalunya makes sightseeing a cinch.

We love this home's elegant design aesthetic. Inside, it's a timeless canvas of high ceilings and wooden floors adorned with regal touches, from the stained glass windows to the glistening glass chandelier. The open-plan living area offers the perfect place for relaxation, including a cosy l-shaped sofa and a sweet balcony with picturesque views. In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

It's right on the iconic Las Ramblas with its street performers, cafes, restaurants, markets and shops, and it's close to some more of Barcelona's most famous streets. Pedestrianised Calle Ferrán, which leads to the Barcelona City Hall and Plaça Reial, one of the city's most beautiful squares, are both nearby.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

Built with respect for the environment, this bright home is an ideal base for eco-conscious guests looking for a comfortable, central stay in the city. While the home dates back to 1900, it’s been brought into sparkling 21st-style with an interior that reflects eco-design principles and respects Catalan Modernism. High ceilings, mosaic tiles, wooden framed French doors and upcycled furnishings create a beautiful, minimalist impression in the open-plan living room with a cool wooden kitchenette and dining table inviting Spanish feasts aplenty. Eixample is the residential heart of Barcelona and famous for its modernist architecture – a prime example being the handsome building that this apartment sits within.

Inside, the design is a little more contemporary than the exterior, although there's a preference for mid-century furnishings that are currently en vogue. The white walls and bare wooden floors are reminiscent of some of the city's modern art galleries, especially with the large art prints dotted about the place. As well as that, the kitchen is both sleekly finished and decently sized, just in case you fancy a home-cooked dinner at any point.

The home's biggest perk, however, has to be the long balcony that stretches across the front of the address and overlooks the street below. Although it's not large enough to sit out on, it's still more than big enough for a burst of fresh air and a spot of people-watching. The tall doors leading out to this space also bring plenty of natural light into the interior, as well.

When you want to see a little more of the city, this apartment puts you in an excellent location to do so. As well as a wide range of restaurants and nightlife venues in the immediate vicinity, there are some of Gaudi's most famous projects to be discovered within walking distance, including Casa Batlló under a mile away. Barceloneta Beach is only 2.3 miles away when the weather calls for sunbathing and swimming in the Med.

Gaudí's masterpiece Casa Batlló is a three-minute saunter, while it's a six-minute stroll to Paseo De Gracia with its museums and designer boutiques galore (Gucci, Chanel and Versace, amongst many others). Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, on the other hand, are a ten-minute walk away or visit one of Barcelona's most iconic attractions, the Sagrada Familia, just over twenty minutes on foot.

Back at this home, open the French doors to the balcony and have a seat on the comfy sofa after all that sightseeing. We love the high ceilings here and traditional wall mouldings. There's a gorgeous, modern four-poster bed as well – this place is perfect for a couple or friends looking for a bolt hole in Barcelona.

When you’re staying here, it’s far too easy to run into striking architecture at every turn. And at just an eight-minute walk from shimmering Casa Batlló, this home makes it even easier.

Arriving at its yellow entrance, this standout block is built in a traditional, Spanish Colonial style. This old-world grandeur continues through the front door, in majestic hardwood, with a solid marble staircase leading up to your apartment – but the interiors are a pleasant contrast.

Pout yourself a tempranillo and take a wander around this modern, Scandi-style home. Huge windows lined with railings along a balconette are perfect for peering over with your wine glass in hand. The zen-like lounge offers somewhere understated and calming for you to relax in after exploring the bustling locale. A sleek, matte grey kitchen tops it all off – a lovely little spot where you can prepare ‘pa amb tomàquet’ and a bowl of juicy Spanish olives.

Both bedrooms benefit from tasteful scatter cushions, throws and quirky headboards that make for a light and airy spot to relax with a magazine. From Gràcia, all the major sights are well within walking distance, including the Sagrada Familia under twenty minutes away. Explore the local neighbourhood, stopping off at its trendy cafes and family-run eateries – wherever you are, a jug of sangria and a plate of paella are never too far from hand.

Our favourite personal touch is the well-stocked bookshelf with titles in all genres, while the shared swimming pool gives you fantastic views across Barcelona's rooftops. Getting around couldn't be simpler from this location in Eixample, which is home to Gaudí's Casa Milà and Sagrada Familía along with countless restaurants, boutiques and bars.

Housed in a Belle Epoque, 19th-century building this apartment's interior is just as striking as the outside. A steady theme of chocolatey tones paired with minimalistic furnishings made us feel like we were in the home of a deep thinker. Still, there are small details that breathe some warmth into the flat – the Catalan hydraulic tiles on the floor, the modern art on the walls, and the red velvet seats on the balcony. The balcony has a perfect people-watching view over the leafy boulevard below. The kitchen as black as backstage at a theatre and dramatically downlit, but it's not all style over substance as the cupboards are packed with everything you could want for self-catering. Should you need to catch up on work, the second bedroom doubles as an office. When it comes to clocking off you couldn't be better placed with Passeig de Gracia one block away, where Gaudí's masterpiece 'La Pedrera' and famous hotels like Omm and Hotel Casa Fuster reside. The apartment itself is in the 'Cuadrat d'Or' (Golden Square), an area packed with bars, restaurants and high-end shops galore.

The Eureka Moment

The location of this elegant home couldn't be better – it's surrounded by shops, popular restaurants, and world-famous sights, but tucked away in a quiet side street in the middle of Passeig de Gràcia. Even though the balcony faces the street, the well-placed shutters keep it private and give the communal areas a touch of industrial design. Taffy teal is all about comfort and will help you relax in with luxurious soft furnishings, excellent appliances, and a marble bath.

You'll find this home nestled perfectly, just a seven-minute stroll from the neighbourhood's beautiful thirteenth-century open-air market. Swing by to taste-test its delectable array of food stalls, find hidden vintage gems or, on Sundays, leaf through second-hand books and magazines.

With its stylish design and dynamic oil paintings, imported all the way from South Africa, this home impresses with its eclectic and considered aesthetic. We especially love the light-filled and open-plan living space, creating an inviting atmosphere where you'll love spending time after a day of gallery hopping. After a restful slumber, spend mornings roosted at the dining table for breakfast, prepared in the fully-equipped kitchen, to fuel up for another day of sightseeing. 

Here, you're a fifteen-minute walk from Plaça de Catalunya and La Rambla, while the closest metro station is three minutes away on foot. After exploring Barcelona’s famous Mercado de la Boqueria you’ll be in need of nourishment - our pick is Els Sortidors del Parlament, a quick ten minutes from the market, a contemporary bodega offering wine from the barrel and small Catalan tapas plates - their gourmet shop is the perfect gift spot. From there, you’re right in the thick of Sant Antoni where you’ll find the city’s wrought-iron architectural highlights and experience the true vibrancy of the neighbourhood.

The Singing Butler

With a fantastic position in the middle of Eixample, this apartment puts you close to many of Barcelona's most famous sights. Even if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the city's streets, you'll be happy to return to this stylish home at the end of the day.

High ceilings and tall windows mean that the interior feels bright and airy, but there's also a Juliet balcony if you want to feel the breeze on your face at any point. There's a lot to like about the design too, with wooden furnishings and surfaces going nicely with the cool grey tiles and eclectic selection of objets d'art. We're fans of the exposed brickwork in the master bedroom, which adds a loft feel to the space, as well as the pristine subway tiling in the bathrooms.

When it comes to sightseeing, the place to start has to be Casa Milà, which lies five minutes' walk from the home. One of Gaudí's other famous creations, La Sagrada Familia, can be reached in twenty-five minutes on foot, too. The Gothic Quarter takes a similar amount of time in another direction.

A Shining Example

The architectural details in Cinder Symmetry are the most characterful part of this comfortable, bright home. Even though it's a rental property, the professional touch of an interior designer is evident in the selection of high-quality, minimalist furniture that doesn't clash with the busy walls. El Born is close to the Gothic Quarter, but has a completely different character –  think fewer tourist hotspots, and far more award-winning tapas bars. 

Cinder Symmetry

Located on bustling València street, if you're after somewhere vibrant – with popular modernist buildings like Gaudi's Casa Battló, quirky cafes, and interesting retail options right on your doorstep – this spot is ideal. Walk to the Casa Milà in under five minutes or be at La Sagrada Familia in just a fifteen-minute stroll. You really are in the beating heart of Barcelona here. When – full of sangria, paella and weary from all that shopping – you do return to your new home, you'll find an elegant living space with original artwork, sleek glass tables and a striking cowhide pouffe. There's a graceful yet cosy ambience around the home with ornate gold mirrors, comfy leather sofas and calming neutral tones. We really loved the chic and sociable breakfast bar in the kitchen area – it's the perfect spot for drinking your morning coffee while mapping out the day's itinerary. And with so much to see and do here, that may take some time.
