Poolside, with its sea views, is where to be, although the lack of shaded seating means you'll need to be extra generous with the sun cream. And while the inside's simple decor isn't anything to write home about, the open-plan living space is a nice touch – perfect for coming together as a group. There are several shaded balconies here, so you can continue to enjoy the heat with an afternoon cocktail. Come dinner time, you'll find Playa Bonita's restaurants and bars are within walking distance.

Close to the charming whitewashed village of Mijas and a short fifteen-minute drive to the beaches of Fuengirola, this gorgeous four-bedroom villa offers a spectacular retreat in the south of Spain. 

Bright and spacious, the villa's interior is flooded with light throughout the day, thanks to sliding doors and windows facing every direction. In keeping with its Andalusian location, there's a North African influence on the decor. However, the modern stainless steel kitchen, quiet tranquillity of the study and the massive entertainment area and gym in the basement make it hard to pin down one particular influence. 

The standout bedroom is undoubtedly the immense main bedroom with a double en-suite wetroom and direct balcony access. Additional rooms with twin and bunk beds mean that the villa is best suited to a multi-generational family getaway rather than a group of friends.

Outside, an inviting infinity pool, sun loungers and comfortable outdoor seating mean that everything's set up to make the most of the alfresco area – the jaw-dropping views are just the icing on the cake.

Away from the villa, family-friendly Fuengirola is a fifteen-minute drive, while the newly revitalised city of Malaga and glamour of Marbella are a little over half an hour away.



The Man Behind the Mask

Perfectly positioned, this apartment is just footsteps from Fuengirola's 8km-long promenade and sandy beach. You'll also have countless tapas bars, restaurants and shops on your doorstep. A sofa bed in the living area offers flexible sleeping arrangements, though we think the space is best suited for a couple. It's also worth noting that some street noise should be expected, however, the small street-facing balcony is a nice touch here for early-evening drinks and watching the beachgoers return home. 

The Sunshine Above

This apartment offers a comfortable stay in the heart of Fuengirola, within easy reach of the beach. The living space is bright and modern, with sliding doors that open out onto a private balcony which serves as a lovely spot for morning coffee. The kitchen is a little small here, but you'll find it's well-equipped for preparing home-cooked meals – that's when you're not out sampling the local eateries. It's also worth noting that the sofa converts into a bunk bed for younger children.

Each morning, wake up with the sun in the comfortable bedrooms and enjoy a freshly squeezed juice and hearty breakfast in the coastal air. While away the afternoon in the pretty garden – take your pick between snoozing on the lounge chairs, splashing in the pool or swinging in the hammock. Either way, you'll be set to make the most of the Spanish sunshine. 

When you need a break from the rays, retreat to the terrace and sink into the outdoor sofas – the perfect spot for a cocktail or cup of tea – or head inside to the air-conditioned living area and sprawl out on the cushy sofa. Feeling peckish? Show off your grilling skills in the tiki-style outdoor kitchen and tuck in around the alfresco dining table. After dinner, keep the conversation flowing with a bottle of local wine as twilight falls – what better way to toast your getaway?

If you're keen to explore, Marbella and Málaga are less than an hour away by car – both are great options for sightseeing and offer a bevvy of restaurants, boutique shops and bars to discover. Of course, you can't visit the Costa del Sol without a trip to the beach. The nearest is in Fuengirola, so slather on your suncream, grab your beach towel and get ready to feel the soft, white sand between your toes.
