Though it's not in central Madrid, this is the city's financial hub, and a nearby metro station makes it easy to explore if sightseeing is on the agenda. The main bedroom even has a dressing room and en-suite shower. Factor in the small desk and it does the job for a fuss-free getaway – just note that there’s an extra fee for towels.

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

The Spy's opulent details, like the stained glass windows and purple velvet dining chairs, ooze character. If you love a good view, this plant filled balcony comes with binoculars to get a better look across the Chueca rooftops. The photos don’t do the master bedroom justice – we can’t get enough of its beautiful tiled floor, and the walk-in wardrobe is an added bonus. The host must be a bit of a neat freak – this is one of the cleanest homes we’ve seen.

Style, comfort and spectacular proportions meet at this impressive home in Chueca. Decked out with trendy vintage furniture and striking artworks, the ground-floor apartment is a masterful demonstration of how to fill large spaces. The main living area boasts high ceilings and four French doors that fill it with light – with separate lounging and dining areas, this is likely where you'll spend most of your time.

The kitchen has been given a modern upgrade, fitted with sleek white units and blue-tiled floors. Whip up quick breakfasts to serve at the breakfast bar, and spend sunny evenings trying your hand at Spanish cooking with the double doors thrown open. There's also a separate office with an antique desk, ideal for those hard-working guests who can't quite leave work at home.

Sitting in one of Madrid's liveliest neighbourhoods, this pad is steps away from an eclectic assortment of restaurants and bars that spill onto the pavements. Stock up on fresh produce at the San Antón and Plaza del Dos markets, and venture over to the art triangle – the Prado is just fifteen-minutes – for a culture-filled afternoon.

Or perhaps, even before – arrive to be welcomed by the building’s opulent façade dating to the 1880s. Inside, it’s all about style and comfort. We love the high ceilings, light-filled interiors and gorgeous furnishings. The open-plan living and dining area is perfect for kicking back at the end of a long day of exploring. Snuggle up on the sofa or gather at the dining table for a delicious feast you can easily rustle up in the modern kitchen. 

A night of restful sleep will find you in one of the two plush bedrooms, including one with an en-suite bathroom. Wake up feeling restored and ready for more exciting adventures – with the Royal Palace and all the historic sights on your doorstep, you won’t have to venture far to sample Madrid at its finest.

You'll be in good company with a stay at this elegant apartment, overlooking one of Madrid's most iconic baroque churches and with the emblematic Royal Palace just around the corner. With so many hotspots on your doorstep, it's no surprise this place is slap bang in Madrid's Centro district. Dive into its history-rich streets dotted with royal palaces and uncover leafy plazas at every turn – there's a sunny spot at an outdoor cafe waiting just for you when thoughts turn to a crisp glass of vino and tapas plates. More of a sweet tooth? Then the famed Chocolatería San Ginés for churros with chocolate is dangerously close, just a five-minute stroll away.

Museums, metro stops, galleries and the gorgeous Parque de El Retiro are all within easy reach of this modern apartment, which is smack dab in the heart of this lively area.

Inside, this contemporary pad has everything you need to make yourself at home after a day filled with shopping and sightseeing in the Spanish sun. Kick back on the cosy sectional sofa with a glass of Cava and rest weary legs, or head straight to the stylish bedroom for some well-deserved shut-eye. Although it's small, the innovative design makes the most of the space – a small desk is tucked into the bookshelf, built-in appliances in the kitchen keep everything sleek and tidy and the coffee table can become a four-seater dining table if needed. Every room is filled with light and features vibrant artwork, white-washed walls and minimal decor – we think it's the perfect blend of comfort and style.

This is an elaborate home that impresses with the broad strokes as well as fine ones. An enviable structure with high ceilings and big windows is filled with custom-made furniture that leaves plenty of space to move around. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

Blue Torito is a chilled-out home located in one of the liveliest parts of Madrid. Even though it sports a gentle colour palette, it uses patterns and textures to give it a bit more spunk. From woven carpets to the textured headboards, it's apparent that the hosts like playing with details. The design is somewhat lacking a coherent theme, but Blue Torito is still a solid, bright, and comfortable choice, with access to a resident-only pool and terrace.

Mere minutes away from Puerta del Sol and many of Madrid's most sought-after attractions, this sunny apartment is best suited to those who prefer to enjoy a city break on foot. 

Elegantly furnished, its simple designs have been carefully selected with attention to detail and high-quality materials. We particualrly loved the serene vibe felt throughout the home which makes retreating back here after fun-filled days and nights out in the city all the more appealing. 

Ideal for a small family or group of friends, one of the bedrooms boasts a street view window, while the other has its own little interior patio terrace – a peaceful spot to wake up to over your morning coffee.

Once you're refreshed and ready for the day – set off to explore the sights. With the likes of Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace just a five-minute walk away – there's no need to set foot on public transport when staying here. 



Sunny Face

Opposite the iconic bullfighting ring, Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, this home has an enviable location. It's extremely well-connected to public transport links and plenty of traditional tapas spots are within walking distance. Some of the furniture is a little dated and the touristic photography won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it still has plenty of strengths. Recently renovated, everything works perfectly. The wifi is speedy, the parquet flooring is immaculate, and we loved the little terrace – a sweet place to enjoy breakfast before heading out to explore the city.

A lush cinema room is a rarity in any city and a first for us in Madrid. Due to the cosy nature of Cinemateca (and a vast selection of movies to watch), we wouldn't recommend it to someone with a big bucket list of things to see in Madrid – we suspect you'll be tempted to stay in most nights. But if you do venture out, you'll find yourself in only minutes away from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol, which will make sightseeing pleasant and effortless. Did we mention that the master bedroom has a massage bath? We're pretty sure this is one of our favourites.

A homely centre–point for all your Madrid adventures, this gorgeous apartment has been lovingly–furnished to create the ultimate home–from–home packed with everything you could ever need or want.

Perfectly pitched right in the centre of the action, this place nighbours the famed Royal Palace and boasts sensational vistas of Madrid’s city skyline. So, if you’ve got a soft spot for sweeping vistas and well–known landmarks, you’re in the ideal spot.

We love the colour scheme in this home. Donning a medley of calming neutrals and pretty pastels, it’s light, bright and breezy right through. The natural wooden beams bring character to the place, meanwhile the sociable, open–plan layout is perfect for evenings spent eating, drinking and relaxing. 

Foodies and self–professed coffee connoisseurs are well–catered for here, as are lovers of beer and wine. There are tons of great bars, restaurants and coffee shops all within walking distance, as well as a medley of shops for those craving a spot of retail therapy. Location wise, you’d be hard–pushed to find anything better connected with the city, and the apartment itself is fabulous, too. 


The Monarch of Madrid

Location-wise, this home is a ten out of ten. Beautiful Plaza Mayor is just around the corner, which means that many of Madrid’s most famous attractions are all within walking distance. We also loved the design – pastel-hued chicness and a feminine take on Scandinavian style in one, it’s the epitome of stylish, casual luxury. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but we’re not going to hold that against an otherwise terrific home. Plus, there are so many restaurants nearby that you might not even want to eat at home...

Perched on the fourth floor, this home is delightfully peaceful and boasts two south-facing balconies. After a restful slumber in the sumptuous bedrooms, spend mornings here, sipping coffee in the sunshine. Through clever design, the exquisitely renovated interior is primed for relaxation. Large windows usher in floods of sunlight while the stylishly adorned open-plan living space blends seamlessly with the fully-equipped kitchen, creating a free-flowing ambience of calm. Kick back on the plush sofas after a day of adventure and, before slipping out for your reservation at one of the many Michelin star restaurants nearby, enjoy an aperitif around the chic dining table.

Nestled between three metro stops, this home is well-situated for exploring Madrid. When you’re not exploring Salamanca’s array of fashion boutiques and art galleries, take a thirty-minute metro ride into the city’s old centre and admire the Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace of Madrid. Or take a seventeen-minute stroll to Retiro Park – the perfect picnic spot.

Residential Chamberí might not be smack in the middle of Madrid's theatre scene, but if you're in town to relax and see it on your own terms, then you'll appreciate the quieter neighbourhood. Paquelin is a comfortable home in the heart of it, immaculate and simple. With only a few art prints on the walls (which we thoroughly enjoyed) and generally inobtrusive furniture, it's the kind of home that will best suit an adventurous family who will make it their own. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it's still well equipped and bright.

We stumbled upon Gatito while looking at homes with high and mighty terraces. Madrid isn't a beach city, but this home will have you thinking that the sea is just on the other side of the building, which is a key part of its charm. The insides are chic, designed for comfort and a good night's sleep, but it's the dining room that gets the best light and will turn meals into an experience for the senses. There isn't much art around – this is a full-time rental home after all, but if you're after something nice to look at, then we can recommend the scenic view.

Sitting within Madrid’s glamorous Salamanca neighbourhood, this elegantly presented apartment is a true reflection of its privileged postcode. From its hardwood floors to its stylish contemporary decor and carefully curated art, there’s an air of effortless luxury here that will make you feel right at home. 
 
We love how much natural light pours in through the large windows in the living area, and the way the column divides the open-plan space to create cosy pockets for luxurious relaxation. The reading nook with its homey log feature wall beckons quiet moments with a book from the shelves and a glass of Spanish wine, while the sleek purple-tinted kitchen is where you’ll want to whip up homemade feasts to be enjoyed around the round dining table. Alternatively, ask your host to organise a private chef for a truly memorable soirée.
 
The main bedroom is a vision of sophistication with its beautifully dressed super-king bed and pair of Juliet balconies – ideal for perching with your morning coffee – while the other two bedrooms are equally as chic, promising a restful night’s sleep in their luxury sheets. 
 
While you could easily while the day away enjoying the ambience of your plush pad, go out and explore the many sights around you. Your Salamanca neighbourhood is known for its fine-dining restaurants and designer boutiques, especially along the Golden Mile (an eight-minute walk away), while leafy El Retiro Park (a seven-minute walk) invites long afternoon strolls along its leafy boulevards. Elsewhere, the National Archaeological Museum is an eight-minute walk away, while bustling Gran Vía is twenty minutes away on foot.

This apartment has a mezzanine, so you’ll need to climb some stairs to the upper-floor bedroom, but once you're up you’ll find a stylish bedroom to unwind after a day of sightseeing. There’s a sleek breakfast bar-cum-working bench, so you can sip coffee and fire off emails when work calls. Situated in the elegant neighbourhood of Salamanca, a ten-minute walk from El Retiro Park and fifteen minutes to the heart of Madrid via public transport, this apartment is ideally placed for any group of four. Not only is the place well-appointed with everything you need to feel right at home, including a desk for business travellers, but you’ll also have access to the communal facilities, including two swimming pools, a gym and a terrace with a table and chairs for breakfast alfresco.

The terrace is the first thing that grabs your attention at this fabulous home, housed in a historic building dating back to 1919 – it's the perfect place for a glass (or a pitcher) of sangria. It really is a fantastic, south-facing outdoor space, with a sunshade – relax on the sun loungers or enjoy some alfresco tapas. There's an outside shower too to rinse off the suncream before going indoors. Inside, there's lots of light, and the huge living room is a wonderful space to entertain. We love the original artwork and colourful wallpapers in the bedrooms. This apartment is perfect for a group of friends, family or professionals on a business trip. We were surprised, as well, given its central, Calle Gran Vía location, how quiet it is here. Step out of the door, and you're on Madrid's most famous street, right in the centre of the capital. Here you'll find some of the city’s most iconic buildings, as well as boutiques, restaurants (let your lovely host make reservations) and bars galore. Take in the incredible views over Madrid from the roof terrace of Círculo de Bellas Artes, a cultural centre offering concerts and exhibitions, a five-minute stroll away. Or, get inspired at Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza with its masterpieces by Van Gogh, Caravaggio and Lichtenstein, nine minutes on foot. Architecture lovers, on the other hand, can admire Ayuntamiento de Madrid, or visit the exhibitions at Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos, both under a ten-minute saunter.

With a statue of King Philip III in the middle, Madrid’s majestic 16th-century Plaza Mayor truly is a spot for royalty. While these days it’s more about fabulous alfresco drinking and dining spots, as well as festivals and markets, it’s still pretty incredible to be able to stay in a flat on this iconic plaza. Let the doorman greet you and help take your luggage up to the third floor. Your host is here to help. They’re keen to offer their recommendations for restaurants, events, and the best local shops. If you’re staying a while, there’s even a complimentary welcome package to make your stay extra special. Of course the first thing you’ll notice inside is the fantastic view of the square – you’ve got more than one balconette at the French windows for that. Another gorgeous feature is the original wooden timber beams on the walls, a beautiful contrast to the modern look and feel of the decor. And if you do ever tire of being right in the city centre, take a twenty-minute walk to El Retiro Park. Find lush green spaces and a boating lake where you can while away the afternoon.

This minimalist home with a breath of rustic chic is located right only minutes away from the famous Puerta del Sol on one end, and Plaza Mayor on the other – perfect for those in search of that perfect location. This home was built with comfort and functionality in mind, but there are a few design touches that make us excited to have it in our collection. We loved the master bedroom's cosy balcony and the futons in the living room.

Your eyes will pinball in all directions upon stepping into this beautifully curated home, where cool ornaments, fabulous design features and bold colours come together in perfect, funky harmony. 
 
Equal parts bohemian, artsy and elegant, the living area is bathed in light thanks to the stunning arched stained glass window that opens up in three parts to reveal views of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores church across the street. Further light flows in from the glass doors leading out onto a private rooftop terrace with incredible views over Madrid’s skyline. Whether you start mornings here over fresh coffee and pastries or end the night with a celebratory Sangria, you’ll love feasting on the wide-sweeping views and watching the hustle and bustle below from your privileged seventh-floor vantage point. 
 
Back in the living room, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Kick back on the stylish Mies Van der Rohe chair with one of the countless books on the shelves or make yourself comfortable as you listen to some vinyl from the host’s extensive collection. In the evenings, gather around the grand dining table for a celebratory soirée, then retreat to the tropical-inspired main bedroom for a blissful night’s sleep. With a children’s bed in the second bedroom as well as plenty of toys and games, this is the perfect spot for families, while the jazzy decor, vinyl collection, DVDs and stacked shelves will keep adults wonderfully happy too.
 
When it comes to exploring, your Chamberí neighbourhood offers a relaxed atmosphere away from the tourist crowds, with an abundance of tapas bars and restaurants frequented by locals. Elsewhere, the ​​Sorolla Museum is a seventeen-minute walk, bustling Gran Vía is an eighteen-minute stroll, while the Royal Palace of Madrid is twenty-five minutes away on foot. 
 


The Rohean

Tucked away in a typical Madrid townhouse in Chamberí, Grottino is a great base to explore the city. The streets surrounding this home are part of a neighbourhood that's just as opulent as Salamanca, yet closer to the old centre – which is great for a first-time visitor. Grottino might not be the brightest home in our collection, but a lot of care has been invested in designing the lighting in this small home, so that it resembles an urban chalet. We particularly liked the brick wall in the bathroom and the chic kitchenette.

Shifting Gears has clearly been designed by someone with an eye for interiors. Even though the footprint is pretty small, the space has been manipulated cleverly to make it feel much bigger. Some of the design is more what you’d expect to find in Copenhagen than in Madrid (the wall-mounted bike feels like a particular candidate for an Instagram post). There’s even a balcony, which although too small for socialising, has a lovely view out over La Latina.

The terrace is the first thing that strikes you about Sail-Shade, so let’s not dwell on that. The living room is lovely, and the rest of the place is very comfortable, if not particularly ground-breaking. The atmosphere is almost like a hotel – you have both a twenty-four-hour reception, and a daily cleaning service – but that also goes the other way. The flat is missing some of the character that you’d expect if it were actually someone’s home. 


Sail-Shade

This home has been designed and furnished with a keen eye for detail – the exposed brick walls are difficult to pair with anything, but we felt that the octagonal mirrors and other earthy decorations fit in with Cosy Cavern's character quite well. This home doesn't have a lot of natural light, but you'll hardly notice it with the abundant atmospheric lighting. Close to CaixaForum and the famous trio of Madrid's most spectacular museums, Cosy Cavern is a true treat of a holiday home with a fantastic host.

In the middle of Salamanca, and with El Retiro park at the end of the road, White Cardinal is in a great location for exploring Madrid and doing some high-end shopping.  It’s a simple flat, without much flash, but it’s comfortable, and the kitchen is very well equipped, particularly for a space of its size. The windows face an internal courtyard, which is both a blessing and a curse – a bit of natural light is sacrificed, but it also means that there isn’t as much noise as if the street were directly below. 


White Cardinal

Bright and thoughtfully designed, this charming apartment borders the luscious gardens of Real Jardín Botánico and is moments away from Caixa Forum’s vertical growing wall and suspended architecture. This elegant home provides an idyllic base for a family or group of friends seeking a calm retreat with cultural hotspots on the doorstep.

We knew that, if the towering wooden front door with pretty cast iron rosettes was anything to go by, this home would be hiding away some pretty impressive features. From the elegant archway to the hand-painted floral panels, the sweet antique toy horse to the immaculately-tiled kitchen – it's a real gem. There’s a tranquil ambience here, which invites you to wind down in the cosy living space whilst the central dining table insists on a homemade tapas spread for a memorable night with your loved ones. 

The surrounding streets are packed with a host of options. Mornings can be best spent altogether walking around El Retiro Park, just a twelve-minute walk away. When it comes to lunch, there’s a whirlwind of culinary offerings so take your pick - a meat-centred affair at Sala de Despiece or hard-hitting small plates at Tripea’s open kitchen in ​​Mercado de Vallehermoso. After your fill, contemplate the artworks in Prado Museum or pop into the boutiques that line the Golden Mile.

El Caballito

Equidistant to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, The Sun and Stone is perfectly located for those who want to explore Madrid on foot. This home is a typically modern city affair with a minimalist aesthetic and lots of natural light. The thing we liked most about The Sun and Stone is that it's been designed with the guest in mind. The kitchen island is great for socialising, there's ample storage space the communal areas are both inviting and comfortable – basically, an all-rounder.

Sitting in the popular Chueca neighbourhood, this bright studio apartment is in an excellent location to explore the Spanish capital. Close to lots of shops, restaurants and cultural institutions, it’s a great option if you’re in Madrid to experience some of the vibrant city life. 

This home may be on the small side, but it certainly packs a punch. With a sleek kitchen and hotel-style bedroom, all your needs are taken care of. Your hosts have decorated it minimally but with a stylish hand – the highlight for us is the Scandi-inspired dining set. Look forward to retiring to the tucked-away bedroom nook after a busy day of landmark-hopping.

And speaking of landmarks, you won't have to travel far to see Barcelona's best. The beautifully-manicured El Retiro Park, complete with a rose garden and boating lake, is just a leisurely fifteen-minute stroll away. Walk through the triumphal Puerta de Alcalá to enter and enjoy a lazy afternoon in the gardens. From here, the world-famous Prado is within easy reach. Marvel at some of the country's best-known artworks before finding a traditional tapas bar nearby to while away the evening.

The Understudy

Angela, the host, actually used to live in this apartment when she was a kid. She later inherited it from her father. It was empty for a while, but then she decided to refurbish it with the aid of her husband and daughter (who are both architects), the result being a rustic-meets-Scandinavian-style home of our dreams. It's impossible to find fault with the design – it’s truly the stuff that interior design magazines are made of. Set against Malasaña, the location is also wonderful, with concept stores, independent eateries and coffee shops on your doorstep.

Bohemian Night's Dream

This minimalist home's most prominent feature is the heavy use of drapes. You'll see them separating the master bedroom from the living room, the workspace, and the kitchen has its own stylish set too. True, there is more of a hotel vibe here, but at the same time, this is a sleek, well-designed and super comfortable home — not to mention the excellent traffic links to the rest of Spain via Atocha station.
