A perfect base for a couple or a solo traveller, you’ll enjoy comfort and tranquillity here – while the place is compact, there’s plenty of space for relaxing and enjoying some alfresco times. Although situated on the ground floor, note that there are some steps in the outdoor areas.

With its whitewashed walls, wooden shutters, and timber beams, this authentically Andalusian home is full of charm. Inside, you’ll find the open-plan living room features a fireplace – providing the perfect setting for cosy evenings with a glass of wine and a book. And while the interior might be full of traditional character, it’s the garden that will draw you outside to bask in its splendour.

Looking for a one-of-a-kind home with a heaven-sent view to boot? Well, they don’t come more character-filled or awe-inspiring than this. Perched high on the hills of Granada and just a short drive from the sandy shores of Lake Iznajar, this ancient church is lovingly reimagined into a unique retreat for relaxation and reflection. 

Step inside, and the house seems so frozen in time you can almost hear the old church bell ring. Ochre-washed walls and vaulted ceilings bring all the historic charm, and in the central nave now lies a vast double-height living space. And don’t get us going on those hand-painted frescoes – best admired from upstairs on the lofty mezzanine level. And there are some surprising flurries of 21st-century living to indulge in here, too. Starting with that infinity pool with a counter-current swim jet to bank some laps as you soak up the jaw-dropping vistas of the Cordova Subbética mountain range.

As night falls, the home takes on a truly magical feel, with the lights of the nearby town, Algarinejo, flickering on and a blanket of stars twinkling above. Cosy up on the Balinese bed outside with drinks to catch a shooting star – we can’t think of a finer spot to toast a day’s end.

Situated in Íllora, at the foothills of the Sierra Parapanda, this villa provides ample space for a family or group of friends. The interiors are traditional, if not a little dated, though we think it adds to the charm. Outside, there’s a furnished terrace, a summer kitchen with a barbecue and a private pool for cooling off during the warmer months. After a game of table tennis, why not explore your surroundings? Granada is around a thirty-minute drive away.

Sat atop a hill overlooking the undulating Andalusian landscape, this homespun villa is a place to relax and recharge. Inside, it’s cosy and rustic with timber beams, terracotta tiled floors and a collection of antique furnishings. We particularly loved the farmhouse-style kitchen with its quaint green gingham curtains. After a peaceful snooze in the quiet bedrooms, sit down to a light breakfast on the leafy patio. When you’ve finished the last of your coffee, plunge into the pool or lie back on a lounge and soak up the unobstructed vistas. 

If you’d like to expend a little energy, enjoy a stroll through the surrounding countryside. Or why not spend the day in Granada? We recommend visiting the stunning Alhambra complex and watching the sunset from the San Nicolás viewpoint. In the early evening, seek out a traditional tablao for a captivating flamenco performance. 

Heat Rising

Just a short distance from Cordoba's town centre, this contemporary apartment offers a stylish and functional space to guests seeking a relaxing holiday in the sun. With a private terrace featuring comfortable outdoor furniture, it's a sweet spot to kick back with a cocktail. The open-plan main living area creates a sociable setting for guests to come together. However, it's worth bearing in mind that at full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa beds in the living area. You'll have access to the building's swimming pool, poolside loungers and garden. Plus, there's an array of restaurants and shops around the local Arruzafa, alongside the historic centre of Cordoba, only 2 kilometres away.




Ode To Sun

Situated just 2km from the city centre, this modern apartment in Córdoba, surrounded by restaurants, means that dining out is always an option here. While it’s a good choice for four people, bear in mind that two will draw the short straw and end up sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room, at the added expense of lounge space, so we think this home is a perfect fit for two. The sun-kissed private terrace is a nice touch, while the communal pool offers some respite from the Spanish sun. 

The Ode to Sunburst

In the exclusive Arruzafa area of Cordoba, you'll be within walking distance of many shops and restaurants and just 2 kilometres from the town's historic centre from here. Modern and super functional, the apartment sits on a complex with a shared swimming pool. Plus, you'll have your own private balcony terrace to retreat to – perfect for sunset drinks with a view. With an open layout kitchen and living area, guests can socialise as a group and spend moments of solitude in the bedroom. Please note, however, that at full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa beds in the living area.

This modern apartment is in a quiet residential area of Cordoba, just 2 kilometres from the city centre. Inside the apartment, the living room is sunny thanks to glass sliding doors to the terrace and the small, sleek kitchen area has all the essentials for self-catering. From the single bedroom, you’ve got the bonus of a second terrace for morning coffee outside.

Located halfway between Seville and Córdoba, this Andalusian abode is a charming base for exploring the region. The sunny swimming pool is the star of the show here, set in a walled courtyard that feels suitably serene and private. There’s also an outdoor kitchen that opens onto this space, complete with a barbecue and bar area for alfresco dinner and drinks. Meanwhile inside, the rooms are furnished in breezy Spanish style (think whitewashed walls and colourful shutters), setting the scene for relaxation. There’s a jacuzzi too, which is particularly inviting after a day spent sightseeing.

This apartment is located in a residential area of Córdoba, just a short drive from the city centre. There’s not much space in the living-dining area, especially if the sofa bed’s in use, but the furnished private terrace provides a little more room for a group of four. Guests staying here have access to a shared swimming pool, and if you need to pick up some essentials during your stay, there’s an Aldi supermarket just up the road. 

The Córdoba Sun

Located in a residential neighbourhood – this apartment is close, but not too close – to the centre of Córdoba. If you’ll be bringing a car, there’s one parking space available in the on-site garage, but if you’d prefer to stick to public transport, there’s a bus stop a short walk away. The apartment itself boasts two furnished terraces – one of which is accessed via a small flight of stairs from the living room. Plus, guests staying here have access to a communal pool.

Situated in Gràcia and with cool Catalan cafes, bohemian boutiques and wine bars on your doorstep, this apartment is perfect for a Barcelona break. Roomy enough for five people, it’s worth noting that one room is a single, and a little more compact. The interior style is exactly what you’d hope from a city abode, while the highlight for us is the balcony – even if the views won’t leave you starstruck, it’s a great spot for a post-sightseeing sangria. And with multiple Gaudi sights within walking distance, culture-packed days will definitely be on the agenda.

Neighbouring an olive farm in the Andalusian countryside, this villa is blessed with a truly idyllic location and as such, guests are sure to find it easy to switch off here. 

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is most likely to happen outside, especially with the swimming pool overlooked by loungers, the stone outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and an alfresco dining table on the verandah on which to enjoy the fruits of your labour.

However, it's just as easy to relax inside the home too, whether you're sinking back in the whirlpool bathtub big enough for two or cuddling up next to the fireplace. The design has a rustic feel, as best seen with the wooden beams in the high-ceiling dining room or the exposed stonework in the living room. We should also mention the balcony just off the kitchen, which is a lovely spot for coffee first thing in the morning.

In the local town of Montemayor, there's a decent choice of restaurants and bars that are reachable on foot, but you'll find even more – plus plenty of historic architecture – in the city of Córdoba, about thirty-five minutes' drive away.



Slow Things Down

Santiago de Calatrava is nestled in the Andalusian countryside, far from crowded tourist spots. Known for its friendly locals and idyllic surroundings, it makes for a quiet, off-the-beaten-track destination. You'll find this home just a stone's throw from the laid-back town centre, within walking distance of a few local cafes and eateries. The pocket-sized garden could do with some TLC, but the private pool is a nice touch, especially when the Spanish sun is at its fullest. It's not the roomiest place inside or out – we think ten guests will be a squeeze as there are only two bathrooms – and it is dated in parts. That said, it'll suit a family wanting to escape the hustle and bustle.

This charming Alcalá la Real home places central Andalusia at your fingertips. The walled pool area becomes a personal oasis here, complete with a shaded alfresco dining area that's a fine spot for lunch. The kitchen has everyone you need too, which is a bonus when the nearest restaurant is several miles away. We found the interior a little dated, and the living room area isn't large enough to accommodate everyone, but we suspect you'll be spending more time outside than in here anyway. With just one shower for four bedrooms, guests may have to coordinate, but the additional outdoor WC provides some flexibility.

This charming Andalusian villa in Montilla is the perfect getaway for families and friends seeking relaxation. Unwind in the traditional and inviting living room with coffee and a game of cards, or toast by the fireplace on cooler nights. The fully equipped kitchen and outdoor barbecue area are ideal for cooking tapas feasts, while the air-conditioned bedrooms guarantee restful sleeps. The outdoor area includes a large pool, children's playground, and ping pong table, surrounded by lush vegetation, so you’ll have plenty of options for entertainment. Additionally, your host offers 4x4 excursions for adventurous day trips out and wine tastings to savour the rich aromas of the Montilla area.

 Located among the Andalusian hills, this charming holiday home is part of a larger farmhouse and is split over two floors. The place is a little dated in parts but boasts nice features, such as a private swimming pool and Jacuzzi, with stunning views of the landscape. Other amenities include a giant chess board, as well as a wood-fired oven, and a tiki bar (possibly our favourite addition). Enjoy long hikes through the surrounding area, or head to Playa de Valdearenas for an afternoon by the lake.
