We love that each bedroom has its own en-suite, and how many of them open onto a terrace, so you can go from snoozing to sunbathing in moments. We also love the location – just ten minutes in the car from Cadaqués, which former resident Salvador Dalí once called “the best place in the world”. It’s easy to agree when you’re wandering the whitewashed streets of this pretty seaside town – especially when you’re staying in such a heavenly home.

Inside, beds can be configured as doubles or twins upon request and there’s an office for anyone who’s mixing business with pleasure. Location-wise, Pals Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away and the town of La Bisbal d'Empordà is reached in fifteen.

Wild gardens carry the scent of Mediterranean herbs and the swimming pool and terrace have been constructed with rose-hued stone from the nearby River Ter. The dining terrace can be closed off or opened up to the sprawling views thanks to folding glass doors and it backs onto the farmhouse-style kitchen. Bedrooms embrace the surroundings with traditional Catalan "volta" (brick vaulted) ceilings, along with the spartan lounge which feels like a ceramics workshop. If you want to get out an explore, buzzing Girona is just over half-an-hour’s drive away and the beach at L'Estartit is twenty minutes by car.

The countryside around this grand, Catalan mansion looks like a painting with verdant green forests meeting wildflower meadows. The view from the arched windows of the living room, across the green hills to the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, is a reminder that you’re just a ten-minute drive from the coast here. A day at the beach is possible at the secret bays of Cala del Crit and Cala el Golfet, both sandy coves hidden between the cliffs.

But we wouldn’t blame you if you ended up spending all your time at this luxurious, old-world villa instead. Sun terraces and shaded nooks offer sunseekers and wallflowers alike a place to spend the day. The fountain-fed Roman swimming pool invites you for a dip on a hot day and, wandering the expansive grounds, you’ll stumble across a tennis court and games area with ping pong. Outdoor dining is a treat with a huge table for the whole group in front of the summer kitchen and, if you’re hosting a special event, a marquee can be set up on the lawn.

The foundations of this home date back to the 14th century, and inside you can still get a feel for the medieval in the vaulted basement where you’ve got your own private spa. Down here, there’s an indoor swimming pool, steam room and sauna. Various lounges and sitting rooms allow the whole group to spread out and our favourite has to be the Rib-vaulted grand lounge with its Baroque painted ceiling harking back to a bygone era. Perhaps spend the evening taking it back to analogue in the library or snooker room.

Wander around the lawn and take lunch at the wooden table on the terrace; you'll feel in utter seclusion between the well-kept hedges. Head inside to make the most of the cosy furniture, and sit by the fireplace with friends on cooler evenings. Watch the widescreen TV with your family, before cooking up something special in the charming kitchen. The master bedroom is a highlight, with French doors opening onto an elegant balcony, providing views of the Girona countryside. Head to L'Escala for the shops and restaurants, before working up a tan on Riells Beach.

In Les Gavarres Natural Park within the famous Costa Brava area of Spain, this villa dates back to the 18th century. You’ll find large living spaces across two floors, making this a great spot for two groups of families looking for the occasional downtime. We loved the contemporary windows that flood the interiors with natural light, providing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. Its stone-walled garden is in keeping with the home’s traditional charm and offers a lovely backdrop to the sunsets over the Pyrenees each night.

Offering you the best of both worlds, this homely cottage in the Spanish countryside exemplifies country living but with easy access to the Costa Brava coast. 

Imagine yourself here, starting every morning in the shaker-style kitchen and enjoying a cup of coffee at the sturdy wooden table. See the beautiful world outside through arched windows as you stroll across terracotta tiles and under curved ceilings. An easiness here will take the knots out of your shoulders and encourage you to spend lazy mornings basking in the sun as you read poolside. Run around on the lawn, dine al fresco at every opportunity – the outdoor kitchen is perfect for putting tapas together – and spend evenings under the stars with a jug of sangria.

The Olive Green Arch

Located on the coastal path between Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell, this property is in one of the most beautiful areas of the Costa Brava. The sea views are expansive and lovely, and there is a small jetty on the lowest level of the home that grants access to Llafranc beach. You might hear some noise from neighbours due to the close-knit manner of the area's buildings, but you're within walking distance of several Llafranc restaurants, and it's easy to enjoy an authentic Spanish stay from this charming home.

A Golden Rose

Gaudi might be famous for his work in Barcelona, but that hasn't stopped this home taking inspiration from the famous Catalan architect. A 200-year-old farmhouse has been turned into a slick, white-washed hangout. Modernist influences are seen in the rounded walls, arched doorways, and buckled pillars. The living room is far out, from the white pool and foosball tables to the huge semi-circular sofa. The master suite is the most impressive, sending out spaceship vibes with its round bed, droplet shaped fireplace and spacious curved bath. But not even the slinky interiors can compete with Mother Nature, as views over the hills and out to the sea abound from every angle. The garden has been planted with bougainvillea, which showers archways and dining tables with pink blossoms when it blooms. For special occasions, head to the home's club room, complete with a DJ hut and incredible sound system. Life will feel pretty amazing floating in the infinity pool or sipping cocktails on the terrace.

You’ll be making the most of those knockout sea views, whatever the weather brings, at this Costa Brava villa perched in a quiet neighbourhood next to the Cala Canyelles cliffs. You’ll enjoy absolute privacy and tranquillity here, the perfect setting to catch up on your holiday reads and relax in one of the many sun loungers dotted about. 

Come inside and be prepared for a beautiful treat – what the home’s façade promises with its old-world glamour, the interior more than delivers. We love the stone and wood details, the unique art pieces and furnishings, and the cosy, inviting ambience. There is more than enough space to snuggle up and enjoy a movie night or an afternoon of wine and conversation, with an ornamental fireplace to add to that homely feel. 

The bedrooms, situated upstairs, are another highlight: with plush, comfy beds, timelessly stylish furnishings, and beautiful wooden floors, you’re guaranteed a restful sleep. 

Whenever you feel like exploring, there is an abundance of activities to be enjoyed in the area – from cycling and horse riding, to exploring the charming town of Calonge and the stunning beaches of the Costa Brava, just five and ten minutes away by car respectively.

Experience Vilaür living in this beautifully restored 18th-century Pajar house. The private terrace offers an idyllic entryway to this charming two-story abode, as well as a spot for golden hour sundowners. Spread over two floors (prepare to climb some stairs), the ground floor features a beamed living area with a double sofa bed to accommodate your third and fourth guests. The upper mezzanine offers a comfortable bedroom with a desk and swing seat to unwind in. Located in the medieval town of Vilaür, you can explore its rich history and 13th-century Romanesque architecture on your doorstep, while the beaches of La Escala lie 18km away.

Casa Perfecta

Perfectly positioned on a hillside, a ten-minute drive from the pretty town of Begur, this villa is all about sea views and laidback living. Your days will be spent on your private terrace, soaking up every last drop of the Costa Brava sunshine. Perhaps you’ll settle into a lounger with an ice-cold beverage in hand or maybe you’ll swim gentle laps in the glittering pool. When it’s time to eat, set the table on the balcony ready for a Catalan feast whipped up in the no-frills kitchen and if you’d like a quiet moment with your holiday read, the window seat in the bright living space is an excellent spot. Stretch your legs with a twenty-five-minute walk to Sa Tuna, an idyllic cove with a sandy beach – it was our favourite spot to while away the long afternoons. Head home before dusk with a bottle of Cava and watch the sunset melt into the ocean from your enviable vantage point.

You’ll be within walking distance of the town’s shops and restaurants, with plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed too. The home has a large private garden, a pool, and a shaded alfresco dining area. The inside feels bright and comfy, offering a modern design and plenty of light. Although there’s enough bed space for five, we think the home is best suited for four adults and a child.

Outside, it’s only a short walk to the supermarket for any supplies you might need, while the centre of Roses and its beautiful beaches are a nine–minute drive away. Families will love the nearby water park which boasts one of the biggest swimming pools in Europe – only a four–minute drive away.

You will need a car to get around here, but it’s just 2.2. kilometres to the amenities of Palafrugell, with Platja Fonda beach just a ten-minute drive away.
