With a prime position on the Andalusian coastline, it's actually possible to see the intense azure of the Mediterranean Sea if you step up to this home's rooftop terrace. What's most impressive about this address, however, is that this special view ranks pretty low on the list of perks.

That's to be expected when you have an outdoor space that has everything from a swimming pool, ping-pong table and a traditional stone barbecue for feeding fellow guests once tummies start to rumble. As well as that, there's an alfresco dining table on which you can enjoy the fruits of your labours, as well as a couple of peaceful balconies from which to gaze out at the rooftops of Almuñecar.

There's a lot to like inside as well. The design is fresh and contemporary, with a colour palette of soothing neutrals, no shortage of sleek surfaces and chic mid-century furnishings. You might be surprised to see the sauna given that is Spain rather than Scandinavia, but a quick sweat is an invigorating way to start the day.

And there are plenty of ways to fill the hours afterwards, too. San Cristóbal beach takes ten minutes to reach on foot, while the town's ancient castle and El Majuelo botanical gardens are another quarter of an hour on top of that.

This postcard-perfect home is quietly tucked away in the outskirts of Salobreña. It's quintessentially Spanish, with a terracotta-tiled roof, stone floors and wooden beamed ceilings, but the interior also plays tribute to Moorish design, with its ornate mosaic tiles and lanterns. Salobreña is located at the southern tip of Spain, just an hour's drive from Granada, where you'll find a melting pot of African and European influences. The gorgeous Balcón de Europa is a can't-miss – lined with swaying palm trees and built on the foundations of an old fort, the panoramic views from this lookout are absolutely incredible. With boutiques, bars and beaches aplenty, there'll never be a dull day in paradise.

Although this flat has a very sleek, contemporary design, it still has plenty of soul – we particularly love the traditional patterned kitchen tiles, vivid pops of colour on the cushy throw pillows and the bright, light-filled living space. Our favourite spot is the sun-kissed balcony. It's where you can start your day off with coffee while watching the neighbourhood wake up and end your evening with a glass of sangria as the tantalising sun goes down beyond the apartment block.

When you fancy exploring, the village has multiple attractions nearby, including golf and shopping, as well as a long sandy beach ideal for sprawling underneath clear blue skies. Hire bikes and go adventuring along the lively seafront with its array of bars and restaurants or, for a bit more buzz, make the twenty-five-minute drive to Málaga – we think it's perfect for a day trip.

Perched just above the Andalusian coastline, this southeast-facing villa is the perfect base for a sun-kissed vacation in the south of Spain. 

Inside, traditional Balearic features, such as the terracotta tiling and open-hearth fireplace, combine effortlessly with pops of colour to create a chic and enchanting space. We're particularly fond of the sleek minimalist kitchen and bold prints found throughout the rooms.

Take a look outside and it's not hard to imagine yourself by the saltwater pool with your favourite book in hand, or tending to the barbecue once the sun's gone down. The whitewashed walls are traditional in style and lend a sense of privacy, but peek over the top and you'll see the Mediterranean Sea stretching into the distance.

As you can probably guess from this view, the beach isn't too far away — in fact, the golden sands of Playa del Rincón de la Victoria take about five minutes to reach on foot. There are also caves to explore fifteen minutes' walk from the home, while the centre of Málaga is only twenty minutes away in the car.

It’s also just a short stroll along the cliffs to the beach, and you can enjoy access to the communal swimming pool – perfect for refreshing afternoon dips. A short drive away are the charming towns of Málaga, Benalmádena, and Mijas. Private parking is available, though with multiple restaurants, shops, a golf course, and everything else you need within walking distance, you won’t need a car to explore.

We love the earthy, boho vibe of this Nerja home, but the real selling point is definitely the outside space. When you're feeling peckish, rustle up some tasty plates of tapas and gather around the cute table under the veranda. There's also a BBQ if you fancied some crispy chorizo or grilled vegetables. 

Inside the home, you'll find an understated living space. A neutral colour palette and minimalist design creates a cosy atmosphere to relax, whether that's by chilling on the sofas or sipping a cup of coffee at the breakfast bar.

On the days where you want to explore the region, you're just a few minutes from the charming town of Orgiva. Here, you'll find authentic restaurants, cosy cafes and a selection of unique stores.
