While not overly flashy, Molten Bronze's simplicity is refreshing. The interior is clean, with a few things that really standout, like the kitchen splashback, which is not something we get to highlight very often. For the most part, the furniture and decorations come from Maison du Monde, so it’s solid and stylish, if not unique. The location won’t be for everyone – it’s on a busy street in Malasaña, so it isn’t very peaceful, but there’s loads to do and you won’t get bored.

The Spy's opulent details, like the stained glass windows and purple velvet dining chairs, ooze character. If you love a good view, this plant filled balcony comes with binoculars to get a better look across the Chueca rooftops. The photos don’t do the master bedroom justice – we can’t get enough of its beautiful tiled floor, and the walk-in wardrobe is an added bonus. The host must be a bit of a neat freak – this is one of the cleanest homes we’ve seen.

Equidistant to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, The Sun and Stone is perfectly located for those who want to explore Madrid on foot. This home is a typically modern city affair with a minimalist aesthetic and lots of natural light. The thing we liked most about The Sun and Stone is that it's been designed with the guest in mind. The kitchen island is great for socialising, there's ample storage space the communal areas are both inviting and comfortable – basically, an all-rounder.

Located in the trendy Malasaña, Labradorite is surrounded by art galleries, quirky restaurants and artisan coffee (we particularly recommend Toma Cafe). There's no wasted space in this home, as the coherent chic design has a strong presence in every room. Even though this is a full-time rental property, it doesn't feel boring – the colour-coordinated artwork on the walls makes Labradorite especially easy on the eyes.

This minimalist home with a breath of rustic chic is located right only minutes away from the famous Puerta del Sol on one end, and Plaza Mayor on the other – perfect for those in search of that perfect location. This home was built with comfort and functionality in mind, but there are a few design touches that make us excited to have it in our collection. We loved the master bedroom's cosy balcony and the futons in the living room.

This home is full of bright hues, which we love. Found in Salamanca, Madrid’s most luxurious and glamorous neighbourhood, you’re in good hands when it comes to things to do. You’ll find plenty of impressive buildings, shops, popular restaurants, and museums within walking distance. Due to the sleeping arrangements, it’s especially well-suited for a family. We also like that there are two bathrooms, so you’ll avoid long queues for the shower in the morning.

Located in the centre of Madrid, this apartment in the Chamberí neighbourhood is perfectly situated to explore everything the city has to offer. Start each day with breakfast and a cafe con leche alfresco on the balcony terrace as you soak up the morning sunshine and plan your day. 

Close by to this home, you can visit a plethora of museums, including the History Museum, which is just a twelve-minute walk away. Or on rainy days, why not watch a movie at the cinema – a short four-minute walk away. 

The lively Plaza del Dos de Mayo – an urban square which is named after the uprisings that happened on May 2nd 1808, when the population of Madrid rebelled against Napoleon's invading troops – is just an eleven-minute walk away. The stunning sights of the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Plaza Mayor are both eighteen-minutes away from this home using public transport. While Casa de Campo – where you will find a zoo and aquarium, an amusement park, tennis courts, an outdoor public swimming pool and much more – is just under an hour away on public transport.

Ten minutes from the alfresco drinking spots of Plaza Mayor, and just over fifteen from the lush greenery of the Parque de El Retiro, this apartment is a wonderful base in Madrid. Despite being so close to main attractions and located among the most vibrant streets, it’s a space where you can relax. This apartment is classy, colourful, and comfortable. The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

The Venetian

Several of the original architectural elements in Strength of Spirit have been preserved, so that the flat keeps some character and a sense of place, and this pays off. It might seem like a slightly nebulous point, but the fact that it feels Madrileño makes the guest feel at ease – there’s nothing jarring about the space. There are a few more modern features though, like the sleek, black kitchen, which adds a bit of variety, but these feel a bit beside the point. There’s nothing wrong with them, but nor do they add a tonne.

Their attention to detail is evident and is best reflected in the choice of high-quality glassware. This home is located a short walk away from Plaza Mayor, but the Royal Palace and other sights aren't much farther either.

When you are at home, however, you’ll find a cheerful feature wall in the open-plan living area and a handy dining nook for when you’re not out sampling the local tapas bars. And while the main bedroom is a little cramped, the home has the benefit of two bathrooms – certain to speed up any morning ahead of a busy itinerary.

This bright, bohemian apartment is an excellent home from home in Madrid. It’s ideally suited to families, tucked away in a residential area but still in a prime central location. 

The apartment is an instant mood-lifter, with bright colours at every angle. A floor-to-ceiling patio window brings light into the living space, and is the perfect place to sip your morning coffee. There are quirky touches galore, and rustic elements like terracotta floors and the exposed brick behind the piano add depth. It’s a comfortable space too, with plenty of room for lounging around while you’re taking a breather from seeing the sights. 

It’s only an eleven-minute walk from Gran Via, which is a great place to begin your exploration of Madrid. Whether you’re there to splash some cash or plan to stick to window-shopping, you’ll love strolling along the streets that connect the plazas. For a slightly more laid-back introduction to the city’s sights, walk twenty minutes to Plaza Mayor. Take a seat in the plaza, lined with historic red buildings, and sample some local vino as you watch the world go by. 


Riot of Colour

Stylish and practical, this cute pad is a great choice for exploring Madrid. It might be snug, but it caught our eye for its fantastic location – both Puerta del Sol and Gran Vía are mere metres away, and you can find yourself in one of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods, Chueca, in no time. Back home, the suite’s trendy touches and surprisingly well-equipped, good-sized kitchen make up for the size. The lack of separation between the bedroom and living area won’t be suitable for everyone, but if you’re simply looking for somewhere comfortable to rest after exploring the city, this pad has got everything you could need.

Situated just a few metres away from Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol, this bright studio apartment has some of Madrid’s most important sites within easy reach. It's certainly snug, but what it lacks in space it makes up for with its enviable location. Floor-to-ceiling windows, Netflix and a Playstation on hand are nice touches once inside. And your host offers a plethora of concierge services to make the most of your time here, from personal shoppers and private chefs to museum visits and wine tastings.


Musings of Madrid

This home has been designed and furnished with a keen eye for detail – the exposed brick walls are difficult to pair with anything, but we felt that the octagonal mirrors and other earthy decorations fit in with Cosy Cavern's character quite well. This home doesn't have a lot of natural light, but you'll hardly notice it with the abundant atmospheric lighting. Close to CaixaForum and the famous trio of Madrid's most spectacular museums, Cosy Cavern is a true treat of a holiday home with a fantastic host.

The terrace is the first thing that strikes you about Sail-Shade, so let’s not dwell on that. The living room is lovely, and the rest of the place is very comfortable, if not particularly ground-breaking. The atmosphere is almost like a hotel – you have both a twenty-four-hour reception, and a daily cleaning service – but that also goes the other way. The flat is missing some of the character that you’d expect if it were actually someone’s home. 


Sail-Shade

This cosy loft apartment lies in central Madrid, within walking distance of the city's best bits. You'll get plenty of natural light here, though it's worth noting that there aren't any black-out blinds or thick curtains, so you might want to bring an eye mask so the sun doesn't wake you. The kitchen is well-equipped and the sofa bed is suitable for an extra two people, but the sloping ceiling might be an issue for taller guests. When it's time to explore though, parking is available and public transport is close by, but you won't need a car to get the most out of your stay.

This two-bedroom apartment in the heart of Madrid's glamourous Salamanca neighbourhood is ideal for small groups of friends or families visiting Spain's cultural capital. With its comfortable wooden breakfast bar, unique decor and colourful paintings, the open-plan living room is filled with character. And that's before you've reached the two balconies, which make this pad tick all the boxes.

When you're not sipping cocktails on the larger terrace or lounging on the sofa, the city's top sights are on your doorstep. El Retiro, Madrid's oldest park is a ten-minute walk from this apartment, while the Plaza Mayor is just a couple of metro stops away. Even closer to home, you'll find some great restaurants in the area. Traditionally-prepared paella, tasty tapas and fragrant sangria are all just moments from your front door.

This convenient apartment is in the popular Malasaña neighbourhood, one of Madrid’s most alternative areas. From here, you’re close to shops and restaurants, and most of the city’s tourist hotspots are ten minutes away, including Plaza de Espana. When you need to give your feet a break, hop on the metro at Tribunal. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space, and blinds can be used to create more privacy between the sleeping areas.

Modern, compact and centrally located, this apartment is the perfect landing pad for those always on the go. Inside, it’s stripped-back and minimalistic with funky patterned walls, tiles and textiles adding interest to the spaces. Wake up feeling refreshed in the neat bedrooms before starting the day with a quick breakfast put together in your fully-equipped kitchen. Once you’ve finished your coffee, head out and explore your surroundings. 

Begin with a trip to the Prado Museum then enjoy a picnic in sunny Retiro Park, a short walk from your doorstep. Mosey over to the Royal Palace or shop ‘til you drop along the Gra Vía. Come evening, seek out a long-standing tablao for a rousing flamenco performance followed by tasty tapas in a laid-back restaurant.

It’s a quieter residential area with good connections to the inner city, though you’ll have a private parking space here, should you feel like driving in. Set within an apartment complex, you’ll have shared access to the pool and playground here – ideal if you’re visiting with little ones. The apartment itself is modern, and while all four guests will be sharing the space (two of which are on the sofa bed), it’s a comfortable spot for sharing dinners after a day of sightseeing.

When it comes to location, it doesn’t get better than this. Overlooking the bustling Plaza Mayor, this apartment with its own sun-soaked balcony is primed for people-watching. Begin your mornings with a coffee alfresco before rustling up a traditional breakfast in the sleek white-washed kitchen. Make yourself comfortable on the elegant couch and plan your itinerary – we recommend starting with a trip to the Royal Palace of Madrid. 

Spend warm afternoons moseying around the city, stopping for a leisurely lunch in an old-school tapas bar, then brushing up on your art history knowledge at the Prado Museum, a twenty-minute walk from your doorstep. After kicking back in El Retiro park, shop along the Gran Via or catch a Flamenco show in a long-standing tablao.

Opposite the iconic bullfighting ring, Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, this home has an enviable location. It's extremely well-connected to public transport links and plenty of traditional tapas spots are within walking distance. Some of the furniture is a little dated and the touristic photography won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it still has plenty of strengths. Recently renovated, everything works perfectly. The wifi is speedy, the parquet flooring is immaculate, and we loved the little terrace – a sweet place to enjoy breakfast before heading out to explore the city.

If you're looking for a cool city pad right in the thick of the action, this location is as central as it gets. Placed just one minute away from Gran Via, Madrid's grandest boulevard, and with two of the city's most happening barrios (that's neighbourhoods to us) close by, you can experience the best of Madrid living here. Potter about the coffee shops, bakeries, and vintage clothing stores of Malasaña (five-minute walk) by day. Then head to the bustling tapas bars and restaurants of Chueca (nine-minute walk) by night. When it's finally time for you to all rest your heads, there's a sleek, contemporary apartment waiting. Awash in cleansing whites, with just the occasional pop of colour, we love the luminous, spacious feel about this place. Slide open the smart pocket doors to reveal bedrooms bathed in natural light and crisp white linens, large hotel-like bathrooms with rainfall showers and twin sinks, and a lounge area with heaps of room to crash out. But really, it's those beautiful views of the urban rooftops seen from the dining area that will be grabbing your attention – it's a lovely spot to sit and watch life go by, whatever time of day.

When all of that exploring works up a hunger, check out your neighbourhood’s impressive culinary scene. Find a tapas bar for a tipple and a bite to eat or try out international cuisine in sleek dining rooms.

This home offers a simple base for travellers with busy schedules. While there's little privacy to be enjoyed for up to four guests, the packed kitchen has everything you'll need to whip up a hearty breakfast. Plus, the balcony promises a bit of outside space for fresh-air downtime. What we love is the nearby restaurants and public transport links, inviting you to explore the city further. The size is ideal for couples and solo travellers, but the option of a single sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible. Netflix and a Playstation have rainy days covered, and although it's not the most exciting home, we like the design – particularly the colourful wallpaper in the bedroom.
