And, if you fancy a day trip, you can drive to the bustling coastal city of Malaga in under an hour for a day at the beach.

A stay here is like floating in the sky. It's the feeling of being isolated from the world, but more connected than ever to it. Situated high up at a wonderful vantage point gazing over the Andalusian region of Valle del Guadalhorce, this villa will provide friends and family with a magnificent place to create memories. The patio area is where you'll be spending most of your time – and for good reason. As soon as you step outside of the back door, you'll be greeted by one of the most jaw-dropping views. Find a quiet spot to do some morning yoga or splash around in the pool during the afternoons. Either way, you'll always feel connected to the nature around you. We especially think you'll love meal times spent on the terrace. Serve up a big bowl of paella valenciana and feel like the mountains have been invited to dinner with you. Thankfully, they're quiet guests!

Being located in such a rural area means you have plenty of hiking opportunities within a short distance. We recommend the thirty-minute drive to Caminito del Rey. It's a beautiful walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro. Admission is cheap and well worth it for amazing photo opportunities. After your day out hiking, you'll look forward to returning home to a place packed with as much character on the inside as the landscape outside. With a fireplace to snuggle up around at the end of a long day exploring, you'll feel right at home in this traditional Spanish countryside villa

Nestled away within Andalusia's mountainous interior, this villa bears the traditional appearance of many of the region's homes with whitewashed walls, exposed beams and a fireplace. However, to label the address rustic wouldn't be telling the whole story.

Look a little closer and you'll be able to tell from the tiled kitchen, sleek bathrooms and stylish furnishings that the property underwent a recent refurbishment. The outdoor area is as far from back-to-basics as you could imagine, as well. Not only is there an invitingly blue swimming pool surrounded by loungers that wouldn't look out of place on a Balaeric island, but there's a pergola at the edge of the home's grounds that treats guests to sweeping views of the local countryside.

You just might find that this panorama inspires you to head out and explore this corner of southern Spain. The Natural Park of the Torcal of Antequera takes about half an hour to reach in the car, as does the historic city that lends the park its name. In the other direction, the art galleries and seaside spots of Malaga can be reached in just under an hour in the car.

Even the entrance to this home is awe-inspiring. Adorned with blue and white tiles, hand-painted by the lost artisans of Seville, this hallway gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "if walls could talk." You'll also find an original stone motif and lattice, dating all the way back to 1882. This home seamlessly blends historic features with modern-day living to create a space that's not only inviting but has an incredible sense of whimsy.

The blue and white theme is present throughout the home, adding pretty pops of colour that contrast beautifully with the terracotta brickwork and patio. Speaking of the patio, this area is most definitely the beating heart of this home, boasting multiple levels containing shady nooks to relax in, a dining table for alfresco feasts and a swimming pool complete with a trickling water feature.

Perfectly designed for alfresco living, the vast south-facing terrace is the spot to drink up those sea and mountain vistas (preferably with a glass of something chilled in hand). As is that cool, blue pool with an outdoor shower to beat the heat. And just imagine this place at sunset as you fire up the barbecue – that’s a memory made right there.

Inside, while the interiors aren’t winning any design gongs soon, everywhere feels beautifully cared for and charming. Cool, terracotta floors and exposed stonework bring the character, while the bedrooms feel blissfully quiet with no traffic noise to disturb your beauty sleep here.

The nearest village, Frigiliana (a ten-minute drive), is an afternoon well spent with its tapas bars tucked away in the Moorish old quarter. Nerja, with its ten miles of sandy shores, is a twenty-minute drive for something a little buzzier. Or don your hiking boots or hop on your mountain bikes to explore the verdant pine forests of the Sierra Almijara nature reserve and the lost village of Acebucha – trails start close to your door.

This home in the Andalusian countryside is very much away from it all. There’s nothing but olive groves, rugged hills and the odd farmstead for miles. The closest town is around a fifteen-minute drive away – El Saucejo – where you’ve got supermarkets for supplies and a handful of local restaurants and bars. We love the gnarled wood and iron motif that sings of agriculture in the 19th century. The farmhouse-style kitchen is a colourful spot thanks to green-washed cupboards and peach tiles, and the dining room is a great spot for the group to gather at the end of the day. The traditional feel continues in bedrooms where windows look out over the countryside and iron-framed beds await for sound sleep in the peace and quiet.

Sitting just outside El Gastor in beautiful Andalusia, this inviting home with its lagoon pool and charming rustic interiors is ready to ease you into relaxed holiday living.
