It’s in affluent Punta Lara and looks out over Nerja and the coast from an elevated position, so the views really are stunning. Best of all, Nerja's beaches and bustle are just over a kilometre away. The villa is modern and sleek, and the occasional bold splash of colour adds a touch of warmth and character. The marble floors and steep stairs might put off parents with little ones, though.

This stunning Andalusian villa is the perfect getaway for a holiday with your loved ones. The interior of the home is very nicely designed, but it’s the exterior we’re most enthusiastic about. If you want the best of both – the beach is a thirty-minute walk away and the beautiful cities of Málaga and Granada are roughly an hour’s drive down the road.

Some homes just have to be seen to be believed. You need to spend a morning lying in the sunshine with a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of trees, and the scent of almonds in the air to fully appreciate how beautiful and tranquil this hilltop haven is. 

Having been designed in authentic Andalusian style, the home boasts lots of different lounges and terraces – relaxation is at the heart of things here. It’s on a ten-acre estate up in the hills with views of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, which can be devoured from almost every angle. As soon as you arrive, you’re greeted by a magnificent view of the peak of Maroma from the leafy courtyard. 

You might spend your days swimming in the pool and soaking up the sunshine in the gardens, which are filled with almond trees, olive groves, and a vineyard. Or perhaps you’ll sit under the shade of a pergola to read, accompanied only by the soothing sound of the fountain trickling in the courtyard. To take your relaxation to the next level, you might book an on-site massage – it’s almost impossible to leave here without feeling entirely blissed out. 

Evenings could be passed in the outdoor dining area, cooking together in the covered summer kitchen and grilling up local delicacies on the barbecue. As the sun starts to set, you’ll see the sky shift into glorious pastel hues, before the stars emerge and create a new backdrop altogether. 

This is a classic Spanish homestead in many ways, with its rustic-chic style and antiques. But the owners have also thought of everything their guests might need and elevated the home to meet those needs. Quite simply, you’ll never want to leave.

Perched just above the Andalusian coastline, this southeast-facing villa is the perfect base for a sun-kissed vacation in the south of Spain. 

Inside, traditional Balearic features, such as the terracotta tiling and open-hearth fireplace, combine effortlessly with pops of colour to create a chic and enchanting space. We're particularly fond of the sleek minimalist kitchen and bold prints found throughout the rooms.

Take a look outside and it's not hard to imagine yourself by the saltwater pool with your favourite book in hand, or tending to the barbecue once the sun's gone down. The whitewashed walls are traditional in style and lend a sense of privacy, but peek over the top and you'll see the Mediterranean Sea stretching into the distance.

As you can probably guess from this view, the beach isn't too far away — in fact, the golden sands of Playa del Rincón de la Victoria take about five minutes to reach on foot. There are also caves to explore fifteen minutes' walk from the home, while the centre of Málaga is only twenty minutes away in the car.

Set equidistant from Nerja's dazzling coast and the wander-worthy streets of the hilltop Frigiliana village, you'll find this enticing hideaway deep in the dramatic terrain of Malaga's mountains.

With shady verandas for long lazy Mediterranean feasts and a magnificent rooftop terrace with jaw-dropping vistas for golden hour cocktails, this place is the perfect tonic for relaxation.

For all the home's dazzling-white, contemporary exteriors, inside, there's a distinctly bohemian feel to the interiors with rattan accents and warm wooden hues delivering all the Andalusian vibes you're chasing. And thanks to the double-height ceilings with exposed beams, everywhere feels cool and inviting.

When the coast finally lures you, nearly ten miles of sandy beaches await. The very nearest – Burriana Beach (a twelve-minute drive), gets our vote. Then make a pit stop in Nerja's Old Town (a ten-minute drive) to dive into its countless authentic restaurants for a taste of Malaga. Or, in the opposite direction, Frigiliana (a ten-minute drive) with its tapas bars tucked away within the atmospheric narrow streets of the Moorish old quarter. Just be sure to make it home for sunset – the views from that rooftop terrace are out-of-this-world.

Located in Nerja, this welcoming home offers a relaxing base from which to explore the Andalusian coast, providing everything you need to kick back, unwind and ease into a holiday mood. 

Inside, the open-plan living area sets an inviting scene with its contemporary decor, pops of colour in the throw cushions and wall art, as well as its ample natural light. Make yourself comfortable on the sofa with a glass of Spanish red and snuggle up by the fireplace on cooler evenings. The dining table here beckons homemade feasts cooked up in the modern kitchen, but our preferred way to dine is to do so alfresco. Head out to the patio where you’ll find a table, chairs and a barbecue waiting to make mealtimes memorable, and while you’re waiting for it to heat up, help yourself to a dip in the private plunge pool. Then, finish the night with a starlit nightcap on the main bedroom’s balcony before retreating to the comfortable beds for a peaceful night’s sleep. 

When it comes to exploring nearby, make a beeline for the beach 3.6 kilometres away or explore some of the charming nearby villages, including Frigiliana 4 kilometres from your door.

In one direction, you’ve got the meandering trails of the Sierras de Tejeda
Mountains and in the other, it’s a leisurely walk to Nerja’s beachfront. Simplicity is the watchword, inside and out. The backyard is dominated by a shimmering swimming pool – as it should be in the southern Spanish heat. The huge, open-plan kitchen, living and dining room is sleek, if a little sparse – a place for folk that prefer clear surfaces, no clutter and plenty of sunlight streaming in through walls of glass. Up on the first floor, a balcony looks out over the sea.  

I Capture the Sea

Only a five-minute stroll to the sea – so close, you can just glimpse it from the balcony – this apartment's breezy, open-plan feel makes it a great base for exploring Rincón de la Victoria. Although this flat has a very sleek, contemporary design, it still has plenty of soul – we particularly love the traditional patterned kitchen tiles, vivid pops of colour on the cushy throw pillows and the bright, light-filled living space. Our favourite spot is the sun-kissed balcony. It's where you can start your day off with coffee while watching the neighbourhood wake up and end your evening with a glass of sangria as the tantalising sun goes down beyond the apartment block.

When you fancy exploring, the village has multiple attractions nearby, including golf and shopping, as well as a long sandy beach ideal for sprawling underneath clear blue skies. Hire bikes and go adventuring along the lively seafront with its array of bars and restaurants or, for a bit more buzz, make the twenty-five-minute drive to Málaga – we think it's perfect for a day trip.

Got Soul

Wedged between the coast and the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, this beautiful home has the best of land and sea. Allocate days to exploring the sweeping views of the nature reserve as you set out to find the hidden waterfalls on the many hiking trails. On other days, you can appreciate the sunshine by doing absolutely nothing more than making yourself comfortable on the beaches along the coast. Sunbathe, frolic in the surf and built sandcastles as the sun begins to dip. 

Come home to a bright and cosy home where you can utilise the open dining, kitchen, and living space by going back and forth to top up your coffee as you keep your nose in a novel. We love that you don’t need a car here, as the centre of Nerja is just a fifteen-minute walk away. A stroll in the opposite direction will take you to Playa de Burriana, a long stretch of sandy beach known as the area’s top spot for swimming. You'll also find watersports and beach volleyball here if you're looking for ways to keep the kids entertained.

Get the pampering you deserve at this gorgeously modern penthouse apartment, offering views of the glittering Mediterranean sea. The whole flat revolves around the gorgeous terrace and its panoramic views of the Sierra Tejeda (forty minutes by car if you're in the mood for a hike). In the evenings, sip Spanish vino as the sun goes down and feast under the stars at the alfresco dining area. Trust us — you won't find a better spot to watch the night roll in.

Your hosts first discovered this hidden gem back in 2015. Enchanted by the setting, they spent months tracking down the home's original owners, followed by a couple of years creating this idyllic Ibiza-inspired escape. Thanks to their background in interior design, the inside is gorgeous, with terracotta-tiled floors, eye-catching artwork and enchanting trinkets lining the shelves. While it would've been easy to copy and paste similar designs throughout all five bedrooms, they've gone the extra mile to provide each one with a unique personality.

Outside has been created to embrace the natural beauty on your doorstep – whether you're stretched out on sun loungers beside the pool, tucking into homemade pizzas fresh from the outdoor oven, or laid up in a hammock with a good book – it's impossible not to switch off and feel any stress ebb away on the Andalusian breeze.

With unobstructed Alboran Sea views from the terrace, the living space and the bedrooms, this apartment is ideal for those seeking a restful holiday on the Costa del Sol. When you want to take a break from the heat, there are two communal swimming pools on the premises. Having a car is essential here, especially if you intend to explore. Fortunately, Calaceite Beach, supermarkets and the towns of Torrox Costa and Nerja are within easy driving distance.

High in the Andalusian hills, this home boasts fantastic views across the mountains. Access is via a dirt road, so a car is a must, but the secluded area and rural scenery make the steep, winding trek worth it. The one downside of this location is the lack of a nearby beach – you'd have to drive about 45 kilometres to reach the coast – but a private pool will do the job when you fancy a dip. The design is a bit more rustic than we'd like, but it's roomy inside and out. That said, as there are just two bathrooms between all ten guests and only room for six around the dining tables, we suggest a lower occupancy here.

Gazing at the Horizon

With its Mediterranean Sea views and private balcony, this apartment is the ideal place to crash between dips in the communal pool and tapas-tasting in the heart of Nerja. The private balcony is equipped with an awning (a welcome addition for when the sun becomes a bit much) and you’re only 200 metres or so from Playa Torrecilla. If you’d like to make your stay that little bit more special, your host provides a bottle of champagne as an optional add-on.

This pretty apartment makes for a lovely base for your visit to Spain, tucked away just a short stroll from the beach. Rincon de la Victoria is just a twenty-five-minute drive from Malaga, but has a laid-back feel that makes it perfect for relaxing beach holidays. 

The apartment is bright and sunny, with a lovely terrace – is there anything better than sipping a glass of something chilled as the sun starts to set? It’s a comfortable space that’s welcoming, making it feel like a real home from home.

You’ll likely spend most of your stay at the beach, which is an eleven-minute walk away. The seafront has plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, so you can dine alfresco while listening to the waves on the shore. 

It’s well worth driving the twenty-five minutes into Malaga for a day trip. There’s incredible architecture to admire, beautiful squares to sit in, and pretty streets to wander with an ice cream in hand. 


Lemonade In The Shade

Set on a 5000 square footage plot of land atop a hilltop, this home is the perfect solution if you’re looking for a slice of seclusion without compromising on location entirely. Still within easy access to the coast and the gorgeous, golden beaches of the Costa del Sol, you can opt for a day at the beach, explore the region, or head to the golf course – at the end of a thirty minute trip – to unwind with a round of golf. 

Of course, if you’d like to stay right here, we certainly won’t be judging – especially not with the spectacular views from the terrace. Secure your spot on one of the sunloungers and camp out here all day with a book, glass of wine, and snacks.

Make use of the stone barbecue as you grill a lunch to enjoy at the vibrant blue dining table. After an alfresco meal and quick nap, make sure you watch sunset from the terrace and spend relaxed evenings playing board games in front of the fire in the living space.  

House on a Hill

This home symbolises beautiful villas in the Mediterranean – a voguish decor with rustic furniture and traditional tiling flourishes into a gorgeous outdoor space. Better yet, the house runs on renewable energy so you can enjoy living in luxury with a clean conscience. 

Once you set your eyes on your stunning outdoor space, you'll never want to leave. Bright, colourful and radiant, it feels like your own tropical paradise. 

Spend lazy days moseying between the pool and the sun beds, picking up a glass of something cold along the way. Take a break from the sun under the pergola when you need to cool off, or relax in the swinging chair with a good book. 

For a faster pace, get some rallies going on the lavish tennis court, which overlooks the valleys around Malaga. A cute dining table rests under another pergola for when you're feeling peckish – satisfy any hunger with plates of paella or grill some chorizo on the BBQ.

Compact yet well-equipped, you’ll find this apartment tucked between Torrox Costa and Nerja. With sea views from the private balcony and communal swimming pool, there’s ample opportunity to soak up the vistas and work on your tan at the same time, while for days on the coast, you’re spoilt for choice with the beaches of Playa Vilches, Calaceite, and Playazo all within two kilometres. We’d recommend hiring a car to get to the nearby towns, handy, then, that this home also has a private garage – and for those fitness fanatics, there’s an on-site gym too. 

Wicker & Waves

Typically Andalusian with whitewashed stone and red roof tiles, this home in Torrox is pretty as a picture. Although it can’t quite compare to the breathtaking vistas of the rolling hills of Málaga, and the Mediterranean beyond, you can get the best of both views by sitting out on the terrace. Covered, the patio also offers a welcome break from the sun whilst still enjoying the mild heat the region is known for. If you’re up for a swim, duck out through the arch and make a splash into the pool whilst the food is grilling away on the barbecue. 

Rustic and homely inside, you might retreat to one of the bedrooms for a nap after enjoying a Mediterranean feast. Wake up to the aroma of freshly-brewed coffee and enjoy it in the shade of the umbrella out by the patio furniture.

Days away can be spent at any of the two closest beaches – both are only a short drive away – or take a road trip and explore more of Costa del Sol and Málaga. Golfing enthusiasts can also head to the nearest course and anyone wanting to get up close and personal with the native foliage might check out the many hiking trails around the area.

Now, the leaving might be difficult given how gorgeous this little home is. With doors opening from the bedroom, as well as the lounge, onto the terrace, you’ll feel that constant connection to the outdoors – and given the mild, spring temperature of Torrox all year round, you’ll have every excuse to spend all of your time out there. 

Couples can bond over alfresco breakfasts, curl up on the couch to watch a romantic movie or spend evenings stargazing from the hot tub, whilst those on a solo trip might take advantage of the peace and quiet to catch up on their reading. Sit out in the sun or stretch out on the sofa with the doors thrown open. Admire the views from the infinity pool or jacuzzi, and nap on the Balinese bed after an indulgent lunch.
