Nestled in the peaceful Axarquia countryside in the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara and Sierra de Tejeda mountain ranges, this charming villa is surrounded by herbaceous hills. To stay here is to adopt the Andalusian mentality in a truly relaxing and therapeutic way.

This home offers authentic rural features and contemporary comforts – terracotta floors, original tiles and picture-frame windows that let you invite the soft breeze in alongside plush furnishings and ambient light fixtures. Make the most of your mornings with a few strokes in the crystalline pool before a juice refreshment under the shade of the pergola. Prepare a fresh breakfast spread in your dynamic kitchen, then gather together in the outdoor dining space. Your day can take multiple routes – whether it’s spent stretching out on the loungers overlooking the parking Mediterranean with your long-awaited summer read or enjoying a glass of sangria soundtracked by local bird song.

Put on your walking boots and head out to explore the hiking trails, making sure to stop off at Puerto de la Graja, an observation deck with breathtaking views. Or, head into Torrox and dine away in one of the town’s tavernas overlooking the lighthouse.

Blue Mountain

You’re practically at cloud height, up at this glorious hilltop location. The Andalucian hills unfurl before you like a map, and each element of this home has been designed to make the most of that stunning panorama. The rustic stone patio is crowned with a deep blue swimming pool, gazing out over the mountains speckled with sugarcube towns. Fire up the Green Egg barbecue for an alfresco feast in the fresh mountain air, or head inside to the dining room with its picture-frame window looking out over the view.

The kitchen has a charming farmhouse feel to wooden cabinets and terracotta floors, and your host can arrange a private chef as an extra if you want to take it easy. Get a fire crackling in the double-sided fireplace to keep the living room toasty warm. When it comes to hitting the hay, bedrooms are pristine white with natural wood accents for a blissful sleep.

In terms of location, you’re a short drive from the white-wash village of Canillas de Aceituno where flower-dappled squares house family-run restaurants. For a day at the beach, it’s just a half-hour drive to Torre del Mar.

Up In The Gods

With breathtaking views across the mountains of Andalusia, this home makes the perfect setting for a rejuvenating retreat. And with its location just a short drive from the whitewashed town of Torrox, there’s everything you could need to experience the warmth and beauty of southern Spain.

Set across one floor, you’ll find a wonderful blend of tradition and contemporary comforts here. From the wooden ceilings and terracotta floors to the rustic styling and covered terrace, this is the kind of space that brings ease and joy to daily living. So whether you’re here for a quiet escape or to soak up the sights, this home invites you to enjoy a constant sense of sanctuary.

Inside, the simple and cosy rooms provide ample space for relaxing, while the outdoor terrace celebrates the energising power of this unique location. From sunrise to sunset, you can enjoy dazzling views whilst swimming in the pool or sipping drinks from a lounger. By night, the covered porch transforms into an idyllic spot for Spanish-style barbecue meals.

From here, you’ll find it’s just a short drive to the beaches of the Costa del Sol, while the beautiful city of Málaga is just a little further along the coastline.

The Mountain Drift

We never underestimate the power of a killer view. Which is precisely why this blissfully secluded Finca perched high in the valley above the coast of Nerja caught our eye.

Perfectly designed for alfresco living, the vast south-facing terrace is the spot to drink up those sea and mountain vistas (preferably with a glass of something chilled in hand). As is that cool, blue pool with an outdoor shower to beat the heat. And just imagine this place at sunset as you fire up the barbecue – that’s a memory made right there.

Inside, while the interiors aren’t winning any design gongs soon, everywhere feels beautifully cared for and charming. Cool, terracotta floors and exposed stonework bring the character, while the bedrooms feel blissfully quiet with no traffic noise to disturb your beauty sleep here.

If you can tear yourself away from the panoramic scenes outside, you’ll find you’re closer to the action than you think. The nearest village, Frigiliana (a ten-minute drive), is an afternoon well spent with its tapas bars tucked away in the Moorish old quarter. Nerja, with its ten miles of sandy shores, is a twenty-minute drive for something a little buzzier. Or don your hiking boots or hop on your mountain bikes to explore the verdant pine forests of the Sierra Almijara nature reserve and the lost village of Acebucha – trails start close to your door.

Cloud Forest

There's a long list of things to love about this wonderful villa. Located in the Andalusian hills, a little outside the town of Competa, it's the perfect place to press pause and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones.

Step inside, and you'll find a welcoming living space that's full of rustic charm. From the terracotta tiles and the antique furniture to the wooden ceiling beams, there are plenty of traditional details to make you feel right at home. Outside, there are stunning panoramic views to admire as you soak up the sun on a lounger. When the mercury rises you can cool off in the swimming pool, and there's even a basketball court so you can practice your passes. Then, when hunger strikes, fire up the grill in the summer kitchen for a delicious alfresco feast on the patio.

Adventurous guests can hop on a bike or lace up their hiking boots and explore the rugged mountain landscapes – there are plenty of trails to choose from close by. Spend an afternoon wandering the winding streets of Competa, admiring the white-washed buildings that are typical of the area. And, if you fancy a day by the sea, take a drive down to one of the Costa Del Sol's famous beaches – you can arrive at the coast in around thirty-five minutes.

Fabulous Finca

Perched in the Torrox hills, in the heart of the Costa Del Sol countryside, this rural villa is an idyllic setting for a country retreat with friends or family. Inside, home comforts are balanced with traditional design features, resulting in cosy living spaces that are a delight to unwind in – we love the original beams and picture frame windows in the living room that flood the open space with Mediterranean light. Make a beeline for the dynamic kitchen, where you’ll find everything you need to rustle up an Andalusian tapas feast for you and your cohort.

We have to say the outside space captured our hearts here. Boasting a pristine pool and breathtaking views over the olive-grove-studded landscape and across the Sierra de Almijara mountains, this is the perfect place to while away balmy summer afternoons. Sprawl out on one of the poolside sun loungers and settle in for a day of sun-soaking and pool-dipping. Chances are it’ll still be warm when night falls, so why not soak up the balmy atmosphere and enjoy a grilled barbecue dinner alfresco? As the moon illuminates the majestic mountains, settle in for some stargazing with a glass of Rioja.

The Mountain is Calling

Nestled between the Andalusian mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, this villa has a truly idyllic location. While you would think the stunning scenery is its main lure, that's not the case here – this fortress-like home is remarkable inside and out.

The peaceful outdoor space is undoubtedly a highlight. On hot days – thanks to the Costa del Sol climate – you can cool off in the pool and dry off on one of the surrounding loungers, all whilst soaking up the impressive landscape vistas. Head to the shared tennis courts to admire the arched architecture – they’re worth visiting even if tennis isn’t your forte. As evening comes around, cook up a smoky tapas feast on the barbecue for your loved ones and make the most of the stunning scenery.

When you head inside, you won't be disappointed. The open layout makes the interior feel bright and expansive, while there's an eclectic array of original features dotted about the place that adds a good dose of authentic character. As well as looking the part, it's also really rather cosy – come evening time, why not treat yourself to a soak in the bath before snuggling up next to the fireplace with a glass of Rioja?

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the golden sands of Playa de la Caleta de Vélez are easy to reach in the car, while you can head into the mountains for unforgettable nature walks. If you’re in the mood for a day trip, the centre of Malaga will take you under an hour to get to when you fancy a day packed full of museums and historic architecture.

Mi Arma

With its Gaudi-inspired outdoor fireplace, Art Deco furniture and locally sourced art, this villa is a quirky yet beautiful place to stay in Andalucia. Situated on the Loma de la Caceria ridge, it boasts sweeping views over olive trees and vineyards and all the way to the Mediterranean. Take in the vista from the blue mosaic pool, or one of the pretty terrace seating areas. Choose to make the most of the outdoor barbecue or organise a private chef to cook for you. There’s also massage and beauty therapists on hand to make your stay as luxurious as possible.

Vibrant Bougainvillea

Under the soft gaze of the surrounding mountains, this whitewashed home shines with the beauty of southern Spain.

Outside, the garden welcomes you to enjoy the restorative power of this unique setting. From refreshing dips in the swimming pool to long soaks in jacuzzi, you’ll find yourself refreshed and ready to explore.

Days can be spent hiking across the spectacular Sierra Nevada mountains trails, sightseeing and exploring the beautiful villages and towns of the region – the majestic city of Granada is less than an hour’s drive away.

Paradise Place

Amid almond trees and olive groves, you'll find this rural villa in the agricultural region of Málaga. Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, Axarquía remains a hidden gem due to its inland location that is untouched by tourism. So, why not live like a local and enjoy excellent hikes on your doorstep? Alternatively, you could head down to the coast at Torre del Mar, or drive into the nearby white town of Benamocarra.

This south-facing home sits 150 metres above sea level, promising scenic views stretching far over the countryside to the distant shoreline. Inside and out, this villa has been designed for travellers with reduced mobility – offering an adapted rain shower and pool lift. Make a Spanish breakfast in the kitchen and spend your mornings beneath high ceilings in this bright living room. Whether you want to sunbathe on the lawn, play foosball on your terrace, or barbecue in the evening, this place truly considers what makes a happy holiday for everyone.

See the Dawn

This smart villa is located in the bustling beachfront area of Torre del Mar. Just a short walk away from the beach, it's the ideal place to begin your adventures in the Costa Del Sol.

Fans of chic, modern design will love the interiors – think soft shades and contemporary silhouettes. You'll love whipping up your favourite tapas nibbles in the kitchen, before flopping on the sofa with a glass of Rioja after a busy day. Or, you can head for the terrace and fire up the barbeque for a delicious freshly-grilled feast. And, best of all, you have your very own hot tub – sink in for a relaxing soak before bed.

From here, you can wander down to Playa de Torre del Mar in around five minutes, to spend a day on the sand. When you get hungry there are plenty of beachfront cafés and restaurants where you can refuel as you admire the sea views. And, if you're feeling adventurous, head inland for some hiking or mountain biking through the epic Andalusian landscapes.

Apple Crisp

Brimming with boho flair, this apartment is part of a holiday resort that's said to have the largest communal pool in Nerja. Even better than the shared amenities, a private garden makes it easy to enjoy the Costa del Sol sunshine – we're already picturing alfresco breakfasts and evening barbecues. Indoors, the atmosphere is laid-back and charming. That said, with the beach only a ten-minute drive away, we doubt you'll spend much time at home. We think it's an ideal option for those craving a comfortable base close to the best of Nerja.
