Located on a resort on the outskirts of Estepona, this apartment lies in a private village with a plethora of communal facilities to make your stay special. Choose from water sports in the lagoon, taking a dip in the communal pool, dining at one of the beach restaurants or unwinding in the shared saunas and Jacuzzis. Even if you're staying indoors, there's space in the garden for sunbathing and in the sunroom for enjoying a home-cooked meal. Although communal facilities are within walking distance, we recommend having a car for visiting Marbella and Estepona's city centre, as well as the nearby golf course.

Perched beside a turquoise-blue lagoon with the sand beneath your feet, we'd forgive you for thinking you'd landed on Caribbean shores. But this luxurious resort-style apartment complex is closer than you think – set back from the beaches of Estepona in sun-dappled Andalucia.

Set within nine acres of exotic grounds, this newly-built complex has got rest and reset written all over it. Laze away the day bobbing about the freshwater lagoon stretching over a hectare wide (100 metres away) or beside the shared pools. Fancy upping the ante? Try watersports on the lagoon, wall climbing for the kids, a workout in the shared gym, or tee off from one of the eight golf courses nearby.

When tummies rumble, grab a table at one of two on-site restaurants or jump in the car to blaze a trail down to Estepona Beach. The seafront chiringuitos serving the freshest seafood imaginable are an evening well spent.

Back home at this south-facing apartment, everywhere feels fresh and inviting, with immaculate, contemporary interiors. But it's outside on that vast, sea-facing terrace where we think you'll spend most of your time. It's the perfect spot for alfresco morning coffees, champagne sundowners and everything else in between.

This apartment is located in the village of Casares, about half an hour northwest of Estepona and only a short drive from Sabinillas Beach. The terrace steals the show with panoramic views of Gibraltar and the coast of Africa. There’s a dining table and barbecue for alfresco meals and a comfortable seating area for reclining with a glass of something chilled. Inside, the place is simple yet functional, and while the bedrooms are basic, they’re certainly comfortable.

Taken in and of itself, we'd be quite impressed by this ground-floor apartment in Estepona. The huge windows and glass doors let in ample amounts of Andalusian sunshine, an asset that's only accentuated by the bright colour palette that rarely veers away from whites and neutrals. We've only got kind words for the minimalist kitchen, as well as the similarly chic bedrooms and bathrooms that also cut out unnecessary accoutrements. To top it all off, there's a private garden in which to catch some rays during summer afternoons.

However, what really sets this home apart from others is the incredible communal amenities available throughout the rest of the resort. Across ten acres of landscaped grounds, you'll find everything from a lagoon with its own sandy beach and a pair of restaurants to a sauna, hot tubs and a well-equipped gym.

Although you could just as easily keep yourself entertained without ever having to leave the site, it would be a crying shame given the wealth of attractions to be discovered in the surrounding Costa del Sol. Estepona's town centre and beach are only 4km away, while there's a huge number of golf courses easily reached by car.

Rustle up a tapas feast in the fully equipped kitchen then head outside and dine alfresco as you gaze out at the glistening sea on the horizon. Or, if waterside dining’s more your thing, why not get dressed up and head out for an evening meal by the lagoon? After all, that view’s not going to admire itself. 

We can’t imagine getting bored here but if you fancy a change of scenery, there’s plenty to keep you busy nearby. This immaculate apartment just four kilometres from the golden shores of Estepona had us on that vast sea-facing terrace alone. And that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the palm-strewn shared pools and turquoise-blue lagoon at the apartment complex's heart. 

Inside, the apartment is fresh and inviting, with bright pops of colour keeping everything uplifting. And you'll love how light-filled the bedrooms feel, each with its own bathroom for a little extra privacy. 

But it's the dizzying array of shared facilities to rival a five-star hotel that's getting us hot under the collar. Get your mornings off to an adrenaline-fuelled start at the lagoon (100 metres away) for paddle boarding, windsurfing and general splashing about. Back on dry land, kids can try wall climbing with an on-site instructor while you bank a workout in the gym. And when it's time to get back together and relax, the shared swimming pools and hot tubs are ready and waiting.

When thoughts turn to food, you can always zip back upstairs to the apartment for alfresco lunch on that sublime terrace. But if you'd rather not cook, the on-site restaurants overlooking the lagoon are just the ticket. Or head down to Estepona seafront for a sunset meal – there's a chiringuito with a table on the sand waiting just for you.

Right in the heart of Estepona, this apartment is just 300 metres from the beach. From your doorstep, you can explore the warren of picture-perfect streets in this historic coastal city, packed with restaurants and bars galore. Up on the third floor, there’s quite the view from the private balcony – over the rooftops to the sea. If you’re not using the double sofa bed in the living room, it feels pretty spacious inside with a full kitchen for all your self-catering needs. The added bonus is the shared rooftop pool at the top of the building and access to a shared gym, sauna and lounge. 

Heart of the South

Take in the sea glimpses from this apartment’s private, spacious roof terrace – there’s room for sunbathing, barbecuing and dining, as well as cocktail drinking on the sofas. Or head through the communal gardens to the shared pool for a refreshing dip. Inside, there are vistas of the wooded hillside, and we love that both bedrooms open out onto the terrace. This home is situated in the Costa del Sol countryside, near a golf course, while Casares and Estepona are a short drive away.

La Rada Beach can be reached on foot, but there's free parking on the premises so you don't have to rely on public transport.

If exploring sounds like a good idea, drive the 29 kilometres to Sabinillas Beach before heading into the quaint village of Manilva. Should you fancy a little more hustle and bustle, glamorous Marbella makes for a fantastic day trip destination.

We love this apartment's contemporary interior, with warm-toned low-hanging light fixtures setting the mood above the dining table and chic stools tucked into the breakfast bar. Located in Jubrique, you’ll need to travel a little further afield to find the nearest beach (28 kilometres away), but it's just a short drive to local amenities with easy access to beautiful hiking trails. The decor might be a little dated, but we think most of your time will be spent outdoors – soaking in the scenery from the swimming pool or whilst swaying in a hammock.
