In the foothills of Sierra de las Nieves, you’ll find the historic town of Alozaina where, if you were to walk along the winding streets, much of its storied past is quite plain to see in Latin-inspired churches and the many monuments. Make your way around, stopping off at cafes or restaurants when you’re not exploring one of the many hiking trails of Málaga. 

Return home after a morning out, preferably with little roscos de vino or cinnamon and sugar covered pestiños and sit down for a cup of coffee together at the dining table. Seclusion is the watchword here at this honey-brown stone villa surrounded by greenery. It sits in the Sierra de Mijas foothills, where verdant green mountains rise up beyond the towering palms. With olive groves on one side and family plots dotting the hillside, it’s a place of tranquillity. But the area isn’t entirely wild, with the Lauro Golf Course just next door and a twenty-minute drive to the buzzing city of Malaga.

This remarkable home dates back to the late 19th century but a quick tour will quickly show you that there have been a number of changes made in the ensuing years. For starters, the large swimming pool is a relatively recent addition – and a welcome one, at that – as is the huge Jacuzzi in its own separate annexe. There's a contemporary sleekness to the kitchen and bathrooms in the main house, as well.

That being said, a certain sense of heritage has been expertly retained during the recent refurbishment and there's an undeniable character in the exposed stonework, wooden ceiling beams and the elegant staircase that takes you up to the bedrooms. Overlooking the first and second holes of a neighbouring golf course, we feel compelled to stress that this villa is way more than a glorified viewing platform. By all means, sit out on the balcony and watch players make their way along the fairway, but if you're not into the sport, why not paddle about in the heated infinity pool, sit back in the Jacuzzi or cook up something tasty on the barbecue instead?

We're happy to tell you that there are plenty more thrills inside, too. In the games room, you'll find a pool table, bar and kitchenette, while the huge kitchen will be appreciated by the culinary gifted. Elsewhere, there are a couple of elegant bathtubs in which you can luxuriate after a long day exploring the local area.

And there is plenty to see around here. The yachts and shops of Puerto Banús marina take less than ten minutes to reach in the car, and there's also a beach there, too. The historical centre of Marbella is a twenty-minute drive as well.
