With its Gaudi-inspired outdoor fireplace, Art Deco furniture and locally sourced art, this villa is a quirky yet beautiful place to stay in Andalucia. Situated on the Loma de la Caceria ridge, it boasts sweeping views over olive trees and vineyards and all the way to the Mediterranean. Take in the vista from the blue mosaic pool, or one of the pretty terrace seating areas. Choose to make the most of the outdoor barbecue or organise a private chef to cook for you. There’s also massage and beauty therapists on hand to make your stay as luxurious as possible.

Vibrant Bougainvillea

Gaze out over hazy mountain vistas from this rustic hilltop home. Far removed from your everyday routine, you're free to spend relaxing days stretched out on sun loungers, enjoying refreshing dips in the pool, and playing petanca beneath cloudless skies.

A short drive away, the quaint village of Almáchar is known for its culinary contribution to the local culture. Not only is it known for its currants, but the village is also the home of Andalusian favourite, ajoblanco - a cold soup made from bread, garlic and almonds. In fact, a festival is held in its honour each September. Should you wish to sample this local delicacy, a quick wander of its winding whitewashed streets will unearth several family-run restaurants.

However, between the well-equipped kitchen and the built-in barbecue, there's not much call to leave this idyllic spot, so you might want to stock up on essentials at the supermarkets in Vélez-Málaga before you arrive.

Almond Eyes

Brimming with boho flair, this apartment is part of a holiday resort that's said to have the largest communal pool in Nerja. Even better than the shared amenities, a private garden makes it easy to enjoy the Costa del Sol sunshine – we're already picturing alfresco breakfasts and evening barbecues. Indoors, the atmosphere is laid-back and charming. That said, with the beach only a ten-minute drive away, we doubt you'll spend much time at home. We think it's an ideal option for those craving a comfortable base close to the best of Nerja.

Raffia & Rattan

Sea and mountain views frame almost every room in this villa in Nueva Andalucía, where La Concha mountain rises behind you and the Mediterranean stretches ahead. Slide back the living room doors and the terrace becomes an extension of the interior – equally good for morning coffee and sunset drinks. A sunken lounge and palm-shaded pool sit within landscaped gardens, while a courtyard terrace set against a natural rock face offers a more sheltered spot as the evening light shifts. A home cinema, gym, spa, and wine cellar elevate the experience further, and when you want to head out, Puerto Banús marina is a thirty-minute walk away.

La Concha Gold

This traditional Andalusian home has been transformed into a contemporary coastal sanctuary. The garden offers peace and privacy as well as a swimming pool for leisurely days at home. There’s a barbecue for alfresco dining and plenty of space for kids to stretch out and play. The rooms are set across the main house and the independent guest house – making this a great option for large groups and families. It also boasts a fantastic location with Chiringuito Sol Beach and the nearest amenities just a short walk away. There’s also lots of choice when it comes to local golf courses and the centre of Marbella is just a short drive away.

Sun Coves

The outdoor space at this villa is so impressive, you'll hardly feel tempted by the attractions of nearby La Herradura or Nerja. Set atop a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, this home's gardens cascade over multiple levels, from the stunning infinity pool down to a private putting green, via sun-soaked patios and an outdoor kitchen – you can even unwind with sea views in the glass-fronted sauna. The contemporary interiors just about match the outside – the chef's kitchen is certainly a highlight, where you can whip up feasts to enjoy with friends or family on the alfresco dining terrace.

Sunshine Calm

This smart villa is located in the bustling beachfront area of Torre del Mar. Just a short walk away from the beach, it's the ideal place to begin your adventures in the Costa Del Sol.

Fans of chic, modern design will love the interiors – think soft shades and contemporary silhouettes. You'll love whipping up your favourite tapas nibbles in the kitchen, before flopping on the sofa with a glass of Rioja after a busy day. Or, you can head for the terrace and fire up the barbeque for a delicious freshly-grilled feast. And, best of all, you have your very own hot tub – sink in for a relaxing soak before bed.

From here, you can wander down to Playa de Torre del Mar in around five minutes, to spend a day on the sand. When you get hungry there are plenty of beachfront cafés and restaurants where you can refuel as you admire the sea views. And, if you're feeling adventurous, head inland for some hiking or mountain biking through the epic Andalusian landscapes.

Apple Crisp

You’re practically at cloud height, up at this glorious hilltop location. The Andalucian hills unfurl before you like a map, and each element of this home has been designed to make the most of that stunning panorama. The rustic stone patio is crowned with a deep blue swimming pool, gazing out over the mountains speckled with sugarcube towns. Fire up the Green Egg barbecue for an alfresco feast in the fresh mountain air, or head inside to the dining room with its picture-frame window looking out over the view.

The kitchen has a charming farmhouse feel to wooden cabinets and terracotta floors, and your host can arrange a private chef as an extra if you want to take it easy. Get a fire crackling in the double-sided fireplace to keep the living room toasty warm. When it comes to hitting the hay, bedrooms are pristine white with natural wood accents for a blissful sleep.

In terms of location, you’re a short drive from the white-wash village of Canillas de Aceituno where flower-dappled squares house family-run restaurants. For a day at the beach, it’s just a half-hour drive to Torre del Mar.

Up In The Gods

If you're seeking a rural getaway to southern Spain then you can't go wrong with this traditional finca, surrounded by the Sierras de Almijara and Tejeda Mountains. And the sands of Playa del Torrox within driving distance, there’s everything you could need for a spectacular reset.

You'll be transported in time here – this bucolic home has a host of original features, including rustic furnishings and objects, traditional round windows with a statement wheel window, as well as grand, high ceilings complete with wooden beams – it’s truly enchanting. You’re gifted with the Costa del Sol weather here however, if the weather happens to take a turn, you can cosy up in the living room by the crackling fire with a glass of Rioja. On sunny days, you'll want to make use of the outside space, which boasts impressive views of the herbaceous hills and the Mediterranean Sea. Plunge into the sparkling pool, then dry off on a lounger as you soak up the rays. When the golden hour strikes, you can enjoy a grilled Andalusian feast alfresco with a cold glass of sangria in hand.

There are plenty of charming villages to visit, including Frigiliana, with its mosaiced streets and 16th-century buildings. Adventurous types can hit the hiking trails to explore the magnificent scenery – the nearby Alhama Natural Park is breathtaking. And, if you fancy a day trip, you can drive to the bustling coastal city of Malaga in roughly an hour for a day at the beach.

Hillside Finca

There's no escaping the Costa del Sol sunshine at this striking glass-fronted villa, whether you're unwinding in the double-height living space or taking a dip in the infinity pool (and this home's hillside position means the views aren't bad either). Whip up some spritzes in the contemporary kitchen (making use of the wine cooler), then while away the day in the outdoor hot tub. The gym is fully-equipped for at-home workouts, and the downstairs games room will undoubtedly keep younger guests entertained. You'll find it hard to leave these stunning spaces, but if you're craving a beach day, the nearest is less than a ten-minute drive away.

Lovely Alcove

We never underestimate the power of a killer view. Which is precisely why this blissfully secluded Finca perched high in the valley above the coast of Nerja caught our eye.

Perfectly designed for alfresco living, the vast south-facing terrace is the spot to drink up those sea and mountain vistas (preferably with a glass of something chilled in hand). As is that cool, blue pool with an outdoor shower to beat the heat. And just imagine this place at sunset as you fire up the barbecue – that’s a memory made right there.

Inside, while the interiors aren’t winning any design gongs soon, everywhere feels beautifully cared for and charming. Cool, terracotta floors and exposed stonework bring the character, while the bedrooms feel blissfully quiet with no traffic noise to disturb your beauty sleep here.

If you can tear yourself away from the panoramic scenes outside, you’ll find you’re closer to the action than you think. The nearest village, Frigiliana (a ten-minute drive), is an afternoon well spent with its tapas bars tucked away in the Moorish old quarter. Nerja, with its ten miles of sandy shores, is a twenty-minute drive for something a little buzzier. Or don your hiking boots or hop on your mountain bikes to explore the verdant pine forests of the Sierra Almijara nature reserve and the lost village of Acebucha – trails start close to your door.

Cloud Forest

This charming townhouse in Elviria offers a tranquil escape on the Costa del Sol. It’s a great base for exploring the area, with golden beaches, cafes, and boutiques within easy reach. When you’re not out seeing the sights of Marbella, you’ll likely spend most of your time on the patio, soaking up the sun and relaxing. Staying here, you’ll also have access to a communal swimming pool – what more could you ask for?
