We never underestimate the power of a killer view. Which is precisely why this blissfully secluded Finca perched high in the valley above the coast of Nerja caught our eye.

Perfectly designed for alfresco living, the vast south-facing terrace is the spot to drink up those sea and mountain vistas (preferably with a glass of something chilled in hand). As is that cool, blue pool with an outdoor shower to beat the heat. And just imagine this place at sunset as you fire up the barbecue – that’s a memory made right there.

Inside, while the interiors aren’t winning any design gongs soon, everywhere feels beautifully cared for and charming. Cool, terracotta floors and exposed stonework bring the character, while the bedrooms feel blissfully quiet with no traffic noise to disturb your beauty sleep here.

If you can tear yourself away from the panoramic scenes outside, you’ll find you’re closer to the action than you think. The nearest village, Frigiliana (a ten-minute drive), is an afternoon well spent with its tapas bars tucked away in the Moorish old quarter. Nerja, with its ten miles of sandy shores, is a twenty-minute drive for something a little buzzier. Or don your hiking boots or hop on your mountain bikes to explore the verdant pine forests of the Sierra Almijara nature reserve and the lost village of Acebucha – trails start close to your door.

Once you're feeling energised and ready to explore, jump in the car to make the short drive to one of the area's beautiful beaches. Peñoncillo is a popular choice as it's perfect for swimming thanks to milder waves. Wherever you end up, Torrox is the perfect place for beach hopping, due to having warm temperatures all year round. 

Once you've had your fill of sun, sea and sand, pick up some fresh ingredients and head home to fire up the barbecue. Tuck into an alfresco feast then grab a glass of wine and get comfy on one of the sun loungers, which are conveniently positioned facing the horizon, meaning you have uninterrupted views of the sun setting over the ocean each night.

The local town of Árchez is only three minutes away in the car and offers a handful of restaurants and the start of a hiking trail. If it's outdoor excursions you're after, the vast Sierras de Tejeda National Park starts just five minutes' drive away and will please hikers and climbers with the wealth of routes and scenic points. On the other end of the scale, the golden sands of Playa de la Caleta de Vélez are a thirty-five-minute drive away.

Finally, there's a built-in brick oven for cooking your food over fire.

Given the location, you're looking at a minimum of a forty-minute drive to reach the authentic Andalusian town of Vélez-Málaga, or the charming former fishing village of Nerja. So we say stock up on essentials, embrace the solitude and enjoy a week or two to completely disconnect – you'd be surprised how exhausting doing nothing can be.

Of course, if you’d like to stay right here, we certainly won’t be judging – especially not with the spectacular views from the terrace. Secure your spot on one of the sunloungers and camp out here all day with a book, glass of wine, and snacks.

Make use of the stone barbecue as you grill a lunch to enjoy at the vibrant blue dining table. After an alfresco meal and quick nap, make sure you watch sunset from the terrace and spend relaxed evenings playing board games in front of the fire in the living space.

You’ll feel on top of the world at this cosy home on the outskirts of Cómpeta, a mountain town situated seven hundred metres above sea level. Boasting incredible views of the Andalusian mountains and the dazzling Mediterranean Sea, this is the perfect place to come home to after a day of hiking, offering a wealth of home comforts that’ll make you feel at ease the second you step over the threshold. 

Inside, beamed ceilings and a traditional fireplace give this home a rustic feel, while the shaded porch and private pool at the back of the house make you feel as though you’ve been transported to your very own holiday resort. Although this villa is only ten minutes' drive from the Malagan coastline, the green hillsides that surround the address and the sense of seclusion make it feel a lot further inland. 

As such, it's remarkably easy to relax here, especially in the outdoor area complete with a swimming pool and a Balinese bed that overlooks the glistening water. As well as that, there's also a large stone barbecue and a table on the verandah, both ready and waiting for long summer evening dinners.

Although the Andalusian climate means that you'll inevitably try and spend as much time outside as possible, the home's interior is sure to impress when you finally get around to heading inside.
