And, if you fancy a day by the beach, you can drive down to the sandy shorelines of the Costa Del Sol in around forty minutes.

High in the Andalusian hills, this home boasts fantastic views across the mountains. Access is via a dirt road, so a car is a must, but the secluded area and rural scenery make the steep, winding trek worth it. The one downside of this location is the lack of a nearby beach – you'd have to drive about 45 kilometres to reach the coast – but a private pool will do the job when you fancy a dip. The design is a bit more rustic than we'd like, but it's roomy inside and out. That said, as there are just two bathrooms between all ten guests and only room for six around the dining tables, we suggest a lower occupancy here.

Or perhaps you’ll sit under the shade of a pergola to read, accompanied only by the soothing sound of the fountain trickling in the courtyard. To take your relaxation to the next level, you might book an on-site massage – it’s almost impossible to leave here without feeling entirely blissed out. 

Evenings could be passed in the outdoor dining area, cooking together in the covered summer kitchen and grilling up local delicacies on the barbecue. As the sun starts to set, you’ll see the sky shift into glorious pastel hues, before the stars emerge and create a new backdrop altogether. 

This is a classic Spanish homestead in many ways, with its rustic-chic style and antiques. But the owners have also thought of everything their guests might need and elevated the home to meet those needs. Quite simply, you’ll never want to leave.

Not only is it known for its currants, but the village is also the home of Andalusian favourite, ajoblanco - a cold soup made from bread, garlic and almonds. In fact, a festival is held in its honour each September. Should you wish to sample this local delicacy, a quick wander of its winding whitewashed streets will unearth several family-run restaurants. 

However, between the well-equipped kitchen and the built-in barbecue, there's not much call to leave this idyllic spot, so you might want to stock up on essentials at the supermarkets in Vélez-Málaga before you arrive.

Sitting at 550m above sea level, this stunning mountain refuge offers an enviable bird's-eye view over soaring landscapes and verdant valleys. Your hosts first discovered this hidden gem back in 2015. Enchanted by the setting, they spent months tracking down the home's original owners, followed by a couple of years creating this idyllic Ibiza-inspired escape. Thanks to their background in interior design, the inside is gorgeous, with terracotta-tiled floors, eye-catching artwork and enchanting trinkets lining the shelves. While it would've been easy to copy and paste similar designs throughout all five bedrooms, they've gone the extra mile to provide each one with a unique personality.

Outside has been created to embrace the natural beauty on your doorstep – whether you're stretched out on sun loungers beside the pool, tucking into homemade pizzas fresh from the outdoor oven, or laid up in a hammock with a good book – it's impossible not to switch off and feel any stress ebb away on the Andalusian breeze.

A palm-fringed and terracotta-tiled courtyard with a glorious pool is the star of the show. Not only is there an intimate outdoor dining area close to the house, but at the far end, you'll find several sun loungers, a built-in brick barbecue and a couple of hammocks for indulgent afternoon naps.

Despite the traditional design, the interior of this gorgeous getaway shines brightly throughout the day, thanks to an abundance of windows and an interior patio decorated with brightly coloured tiles. The ground floor also comes complete with a large kitchen/dining room where up to twelve of you can squeeze in elbow to elbow around the table, plus a triple room.

Five additional bedrooms are located on the first floor, overlooking the interior courtyard and decorated with beautiful wall hangings, brightly coloured bedding and eye-catching lighting – each one offers its own unique charm. A couple even come with the added benefit of balcony access so you can sip your morning coffee looking out over the pool. 

The town itself is nestled between the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mediterranean sea, offering easy access to both. Much like the home, the town wears its Moorish influence on its sleeve and it's well worth spending an afternoon strolling through the old town and taking in the architecture. With the Spanish sun high in the sky, why not gather the family together and head to the beach in nearby Torre del Mar? Alternatively, witness the unstoppable resurgence of Málaga a little over half an hour away.

We never underestimate the power of a killer view. Which is precisely why this blissfully secluded Finca perched high in the valley above the coast of Nerja caught our eye.

Perfectly designed for alfresco living, the vast south-facing terrace is the spot to drink up those sea and mountain vistas (preferably with a glass of something chilled in hand). As is that cool, blue pool with an outdoor shower to beat the heat. And just imagine this place at sunset as you fire up the barbecue – that’s a memory made right there.
