The town itself is nestled between the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mediterranean sea, offering easy access to both. Much like the home, the town wears its Moorish influence on its sleeve and it's well worth spending an afternoon strolling through the old town and taking in the architecture. With the Spanish sun high in the sky, why not gather the family together and head to the beach in nearby Torre del Mar? Alternatively, witness the unstoppable resurgence of Málaga a little over half an hour away.

Set on a 5000 square footage plot of land atop a hilltop, this home is the perfect solution if you’re looking for a slice of seclusion without compromising on location entirely. Still within easy access to the coast and the gorgeous, golden beaches of the Costa del Sol, you can opt for a day at the beach, explore the region, or head to the golf course – at the end of a thirty minute trip – to unwind with a round of golf. 

Of course, if you’d like to stay right here, we certainly won’t be judging – especially not with the spectacular views from the terrace. Secure your spot on one of the sunloungers and camp out here all day with a book, glass of wine, and snacks.

Make use of the stone barbecue as you grill a lunch to enjoy at the vibrant blue dining table. After an alfresco meal and quick nap, make sure you watch sunset from the terrace and spend relaxed evenings playing board games in front of the fire in the living space.

Although this villa is only ten minutes' drive from the Malagan coastline, the green hillsides that surround the address and the sense of seclusion make it feel a lot further inland. 

As such, it's remarkably easy to relax here, especially in the outdoor area complete with a swimming pool and a Balinese bed that overlooks the glistening water. As well as that, there's also a large stone barbecue and a table on the verandah, both ready and waiting for long summer evening dinners.

Although the Andalusian climate means that you'll inevitably try and spend as much time outside as possible, the home's interior is sure to impress when you finally get around to heading inside. There's definitely a traditional feel to the design, with terracotta tiles underfoot, wooden finishes and whitewashed walls. The double-aspect glass doors in the living space are also particularly generous when it comes to natural light, too.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there's a great choice of small towns and villages that lie a short drive away from the home, including Algarrobo ten minutes' drive away. There are larger cities within easy reach too, such as Malaga itself only forty minutes away by car.

From hiking through the surrounding countryside to tennis and horse riding, there are endless ways to explore this beautiful region. And for those seeking the refreshing spirit of the sea, you’ll find the nearest beach is less than a thirty-minute drive away. 

The Sky Blossom 

Perched just above the Andalusian coastline, this southeast-facing villa is the perfect base for a sun-kissed vacation in the south of Spain. 

Inside, traditional Balearic features, such as the terracotta tiling and open-hearth fireplace, combine effortlessly with pops of colour to create a chic and enchanting space. We're particularly fond of the sleek minimalist kitchen and bold prints found throughout the rooms.

Take a look outside and it's not hard to imagine yourself by the saltwater pool with your favourite book in hand, or tending to the barbecue once the sun's gone down. The whitewashed walls are traditional in style and lend a sense of privacy, but peek over the top and you'll see the Mediterranean Sea stretching into the distance.

As you can probably guess from this view, the beach isn't too far away — in fact, the golden sands of Playa del Rincón de la Victoria take about five minutes to reach on foot. There are also caves to explore fifteen minutes' walk from the home, while the centre of Málaga is only twenty minutes away in the car.

Nestled in the hills near the charming whitewashed town of Torrox, this beautiful villa is a vision of Meditteran romance with dazzling views to match. 

Gaze out at the blue of the sea and the rugged slopes surrounding it from your panoramic patio. This is where you’ll want to spend sun up till sun down, soaking up the rays from the loungers and plunge pool or enjoying some shaded reading from the comfort of the Balinese bed. Evenings call for alfresco barbecue meals to be enjoyed as the light fades over the horizon, while nothing says holiday bliss like ending the night with a starlit soak in the hot tub.

Inside, you’ll find a comfortable open-plan living space that beckons cosy, cooler evenings around the fireplace, while the bed invites a restful night’s sleep leaving you feeling rested and ready for another day of luxuriously relaxing fun. 

When it comes to exploring nearby, head to nearby Torrox or El Morche – both about 4.5 kilometres away – or spend a day at the nearby beach, 4.8 kilometres from your door. You’re also under 20 kilometres from both Frigiliana and Nerja – the latter of which boasts the beautiful Balcón de Europa – while Málaga offers the perfect way to spend a day trip, 41 kilometres from your home. 


Bali Sol

Hidden away in Andalusia's mountainous interior, this villa is blessed with some incredible views of Spanish hillsides and the uninterrupted skyline. As you might hope, there are plenty of spots from which you can drink in this beautiful panorama, including a swimming pool and a sunken hot tub positioned right at the edge of the glass-walled terrace.

As if that wasn't enough, the dining table on the verandah is sure to be the scene for merry dinners that stretch long into the night – perhaps with dishes served straight off the barbecue. There's even a ping pong table just in case you brought your competitive side with you.

Probably quite sensibly, the home's interior doesn't attempt to better the stunning natural surroundings and lies on the minimalist side. That being said, it's plain to see that care and attention have gone into the design, particularly the sleek kitchen and the cosy fireplace that sits in the corner of the living room.

The local town of Árchez is only three minutes away in the car and offers a handful of restaurants and the start of a hiking trail. If it's outdoor excursions you're after, the vast Sierras de Tejeda National Park starts just five minutes' drive away and will please hikers and climbers with the wealth of routes and scenic points. On the other end of the scale, the golden sands of Playa de la Caleta de Vélez are a thirty-five-minute drive away.

Ruggedly Handsome

This holiday house in Canillas de Albaida is perfect for large families or groups of friends. The terrace is where you’ll spend most of your time, whether that’s cooking up a storm on the barbecue or cooling off in the private pool. Should you fancy some alone time, most of the bedrooms have balcony access. If you intend to explore during your stay, we’d recommend hiring a car. Peñoncillo Beach is around a forty-minute drive away, while the charming town of Cómpeta is reached in less than ten. 

A Heart Full of Sunshine

Tucked away in a striking landscape of the Sierras de Tejeda, you’ll find this lovely rustic villa. It’s a traditional Spanish home built from stone, whose exterior is decorated with vines and flowers. Inside, you’ll find natural wood beams, tiled floors, and a warm and cosy ambience. It’s perfect for quiet escapes to the countryside, where you can rest, relax and make memories. 

The villa can be found in Competa in Andalucia, and boasts views of the mountains of Azarquia. From the terrace, there’s a partial sea view – the views here really are spectacular. Vineyards, olive groves and almond trees surround the home and add to the pretty scenery, making it feel deliciously secluded. 

You’ll spend most of your time outside, drinking in the views as you soak up the Spanish sun. Slip into the private swimming pool to splash about with the little ones, or to float in the cool water. The barbecue makes alfresco dining even more appealing – is there anything better than ending a day in the sun with a feast under the stars? 


Sierra Siesta

Only a five-minute stroll to the sea – so close, you can just glimpse it from the balcony – this apartment's breezy, open-plan feel makes it a great base for exploring Rincón de la Victoria. Although this flat has a very sleek, contemporary design, it still has plenty of soul – we particularly love the traditional patterned kitchen tiles, vivid pops of colour on the cushy throw pillows and the bright, light-filled living space. Our favourite spot is the sun-kissed balcony. It's where you can start your day off with coffee while watching the neighbourhood wake up and end your evening with a glass of sangria as the tantalising sun goes down beyond the apartment block.

When you fancy exploring, the village has multiple attractions nearby, including golf and shopping, as well as a long sandy beach ideal for sprawling underneath clear blue skies. Hire bikes and go adventuring along the lively seafront with its array of bars and restaurants or, for a bit more buzz, make the twenty-five-minute drive to Málaga – we think it's perfect for a day trip.

This apartment sits in a gated community at the heart of Axarquia. It’s in the first line from the beach, so you can admire sea views and stroll to the soft sand in no time. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. You’ll have access to the communal salt-water swimming pool, from which you can gaze out to sea as you float in the sunshine. There’s a communal gym, too, ideal for those keen to keep up their routine. We recommend bringing a car so you can drive twenty-five minutes to Malaga to see the sights. 

Saltwater Serenity

Surrounded by terraced gardens linked by charming paved pathways and stone walls, the outdoor space at this home on the Costa del Sol is a delight. Follow the brick bridge over the pond to reach two hanging basket chairs, which you can swing in while admiring the view over Frigiliana, known as the prettiest village in Andalucia. There’s also an outdoor kitchen with a coal barbecue for alfresco meals, and two dining areas on the terraced balconies. After a swim in the pool, relax with a book on the daybed. Children will be kept busy too, thanks to a small garden house, hammock and table tennis.

Mango Orchard

Those looking for a remote retreat need look no further than this rustic mountain home, situated inland from the bustling shores of the Costa del Sol. Spread over a single level, the home flows from room to room with elegant archways separating the spaces. With exposed stone walls, terracotta floor tiles and elegant wooden furniture, your hosts have designed a welcoming space that's in keeping with its spectacular rural surroundings. 

The grounds are the real highlight and have been designed to make the most of the enviable Mediterranean climate and breathtaking views. A spacious terrace comes equipped with a private pool surrounded by sun loungers and there are a couple of shaded seating areas on hand to shelter you from the glare of the midday sun. Finally, there's a built-in brick oven for cooking your food over fire.

Given the location, you're looking at a minimum of a forty-minute drive to reach the authentic Andalusian town of Vélez-Málaga, or the charming former fishing village of Nerja. So we say stock up on essentials, embrace the solitude and enjoy a week or two to completely disconnect – you'd be surprised how exhausting doing nothing can be.

And, if you fancy a day by the sea, you can drive to the Costa Del Sol in around forty minutes to spend some time on the sand. 

Tropical Wanderlust

High in the Andalusian hills, this home boasts fantastic views across the mountains. Access is via a dirt road, so a car is a must, but the secluded area and rural scenery make the steep, winding trek worth it. The one downside of this location is the lack of a nearby beach – you'd have to drive about 45 kilometres to reach the coast – but a private pool will do the job when you fancy a dip. The design is a bit more rustic than we'd like, but it's roomy inside and out. That said, as there are just two bathrooms between all ten guests and only room for six around the dining tables, we suggest a lower occupancy here.

The main reason for this is the way that the hosts find a balance between retaining period features with adding more contemporary amenities. Behind the home's whitewashed walls, you'll see wooden ceiling beams and a traditional fireplace, but also a modern kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms.

Given the local climate, you will probably want to spend as many waking hours in the open air as possible and there are plenty of ways to do just that across the ten-hectare site. Not only is the swimming pool especially cooling on hot afternoons, but it also looks out over sweeping views of local hillsides. If you're ever in need of a little shade, there's lots of space to sit and relax beneath the leafy pergola, too.

The address sure does feel secluded and the nearest village – Cómpeta – is just over two kilometres away, offering a small selection of shops and restaurants. A little further afield, the coastline lies about 20 kilometres away and there's a great selection of beaches from which to pick.

We have to say the outside space captured our hearts here. Sprawl out on one of the poolside sun loungers and settle in for a day of sun-soaking and pool-dipping. Chances are it’ll still be warm when night falls, so why not soak up the balmy atmosphere and enjoy a grilled barbecue dinner alfresco? As the moon illuminates the majestic mountains, settle in for some stargazing with a glass of Rioja.

We especially love the thought of waking in the morning, preparing our first brew of the day, and then stepping out onto that lovely balcony to feel the sun beat gently down upon our skin, gazing one way towards the sea, and then another to admire the verdant hills and majestic crests of the mountain ranges beyond.

Make the most of the sunshine and head over to the shared pool area to catch some rays or simply while away an hour or two chatting with the other residents. Fancy venturing off the complex? The stunning surrounding area is filled with great hiking and biking opportunities, so you'll have every chance to get out there and explore the striking natural beauty of the Spanish countryside. The nearest beach is also 3 kilometres away – perfect for a day by the coast.
