In the hills above the Costa Brava, this traditional villa is sure to impress with its antique interiors. From the chandeliers to the open fireplace, this house is full of surprises. This extends to the garden, where you'll find a swimming pool hidden among the trees. Spend your days out here sunbathing or swimming, and in the evening, light up the traditional clay oven or the gas barbecue for an alfresco dining experience. Surrounded by the Sierra Espuña, you're unlikely to encounter anyone else in this remote spot, but if you're missing the bustle of the coast, it's a 45-minute drive to Puerto de Mazarrón. Nearer your home, the village of Aledo is home to an impressive Moorish castle worth exploring, or you might walk the hiking trails in the Sierra Espuña. After a long day, cook dinner in the kitchen – which despite retaining its traditional style, contains modern amenities such as a microwave, dishwasher, and freezer – and dine outside on the terrace. As the night draws in, settle back in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine.

If you’re looking to switch off from everyday life, you can’t do much better than this sweet casita we found tucked away in the heart of the Andalusian countryside. Boasting a gorgeous swimming pool and an abundance of outdoor space, this is the perfect setting for a romantic retreat or relaxing group getaway to one of Spain’s most beautiful regions. 

Start your morning with a café con leche on the outdoor sofa then settle in for a day of sunbathing by the glistening pool. We don’t know about you, but we could easily spend all day out here, sipping a refreshing Andalusian cocktail and getting to know the loveable pets that live next door. If you fancy getting out and about though, why not drive into Taberno for an afternoon of sightseeing before heading back home and treating yourself to a delicious barbecue on the porch? The slick glossy kitchen has everything you need for preparing light meals, whilst the outdoor dining room is set up for memorable dinners amongst the sprawling sea vistas. There are two living rooms here – stretch out on the terrace sofa for a siesta accompanied by the coastal breeze, or cosy up in the living room for an evening of card games and cocktails. 

When you’re ready to step out of your little slice of calm, saunter down to the powdery sands for a day of sun-soaking and sea-splashing. Charming nearby restaurants are serving up local dishes for when you get peckish, then head over to a waterfront bar for an icy glass of sangria. Make the short drive to Torrevieja where you’ll find the breathtaking, pink-hued Laguna Rosa – it’s an Instagram-worthy outing.

You'll likely find yourselves stretched out by the infinity pool much of the time. And with sleek sun loungers, a sumptuous outdoor lounge and a barbecue, as well as an outdoor fireplace that glows into the dark hours of the evening – we can see exactly why you'd want to spend the majority of your stay out here.  

The interior, however, is just as sublime, as minimalist designs showcase a laid-back space packed with style and amenities. This villa covers all bases – there’s a basement kitted out with a playroom and plenty of space for the little ones to run around, a pool table for the teens of the group to keep entertained, and private pockets for adult socialisation – we think the terrace chairs are an idyllic spot to share sangrias at sunset. And when the whole group wants to come together, there’s a huge living room for games nights, though we expect the infinity pool takes the top spot.

When you can tear yourselves away from this slice of paradise here, you'll be located a short drive away from the pristine sands of Platja del Mocayo and an array of bars and restaurants. And if you’re here to practice your swing, you’re just moments away from La Marquesa Golf Course.

An ideal setting for large family gatherings, this sprawling homestead is made up of four separate buildings. Alongside the main house, there's a casita ideal for kids and a wooden lodge for those wanting extra privacy – though some people will sleep on sofa beds. Our favourite is the summer kitchen, where all twenty-three guests can tuck into tapas together. The pool will also be a big hit, even if there are only eight loungers. Location-wise, you'll be 22 kilometres from the beach in Guardamar del Segura. Also within driving distance is Alicante if you want to explore further afield.

If you're looking for your own tropical paradise to take the family to, then look no further than this gorgeous Spanish home. Set on a huge plot of land, you'll have the freedom to roam around the beautifully tranquil patio and garden areas surrounding the villa. Wake up early and take in the golden morning sunshine on the terracotta tiled patio before serving up a family continental breakfast with café con leches in the garden. You will feel surrounded by nature here, with plenty of lush green spaces to enjoy. The star of the show is the swimming pool area though, which has palm trees dotted all around looking like they're part of a tropical chess board. We guarantee you'll be spending your afternoons here splashing around and making memories under the swaying palms.

The inside of the home itself is a lovely blend of modern furnishings mixed with traditional features. You probably won't be spending much of your time inside on the hot days, but during the cold nights, you can look forward to snuggling up around the lounge woodburner while sharing stories. When looking to venture outside of this wonderful home, you'll be glad to know you're in a prime location to take advantage of the area. It won't take you long to be swimming in the Meditteranean – Guardamar del Segura beach is only 13km away. Trips into the city of Murcia are a must too. It's not too far by car, and when you're there, you'll be able to wander its historic streets and admire its beautiful architecture. Murcia is a great day out for the whole family.

Right by Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, this beautiful villa offers serenity and luxury. We think families will have a blast here – your host can provide a free cot to make travelling with little ones a breeze, though children will need supervision around the unfenced infinity pool. There's plenty of outdoor seating on the astroturf for sunbathing and enjoying a drink by the summer kitchen, and lots of space to park. We think you'll need a car here to get the most out of this fantastic location – the city of Murcia is around an hour away, along with the region's golden coastline.

La Spirited

This villa is perfect for large groups seeking a relaxing break. It’s 5 kilometres from Catral  and 10 kilometres from the Parque Natural del Hondo, which makes for a tranquil day trip. With only five bedrooms between twenty guests, there’ll be quite a few guests sleeping on sofa beds, but you’ll have plenty of space to spread out during your waking hours. The outside space includes a huge terrace, lush gardens, and a private pool. You can dine alfresco and cook on the built-in barbecue. We recommend bringing a car so you can explore the surrounding area – there are lakes, beaches, and golf courses nearby.

The Lagoon Song

This coastal pet-friendly apartment has a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with one of Guardamar's golden sandy beaches right on your doorstep. The furnishings are a little dated, and we think the place could do with an update, but being on the fifth floor ensures you'll have lovely views. We recommend having a car here for day trips up to the cities of Alicante or Elche, but Centre Beach, as well as Guardamar's local shops, cafes and restaurants, are all within walking distance.

Sea Breeze Heaven

This modern villa is the perfect retreat for those looking for a restful break. You’re a little further removed from the touristy areas here, which means you can really unwind. We recommend hiring a car or two to make the most of your time here – there are golf courses and beaches to discover. There’s plenty of room for you to spend time together at the villa, though two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room – it’s still a comfy spot. We love the terrace for alfresco dining, and the private pool is sure to please.

And, if you're feeling active, you can climb the Monte Benacantil or try your hand at some watersports on one of Costa Blanca's many beaches.

In the buzzing coastal city of Alicante, this apartment looks straight down one of the art deco streets to the glimmering sea. It’s a 500m stroll to the waterfront, where you can follow the promenade straight to the soft-sanded beach. By the water, you’ll find a healthy selection of bars, restaurants and cafes to fuel beachy days.

The apartment itself is a charming medley of sleek modernism and boho touches. The monochrome kitchen has everything you need for self-catering and the cosy living area has raw wood touches and throws adding a bit of character. But the best thing has to be the private balcony, furnished with lounge furniture and a dinner table. This is where you really get the benefit of the sixth-floor location (don’t worry, there’s a lift in the building), overlooking the palm-lined street below all the way to the sea.
