If you’re looking to switch off from everyday life, you can’t do much better than this sweet casita we found tucked away in the heart of the Andalusian countryside. Boasting a gorgeous swimming pool and an abundance of outdoor space, this is the perfect setting for a romantic retreat or relaxing group getaway to one of Spain’s most beautiful regions. 

Start your morning with a café con leche on the outdoor sofa then settle in for a day of sunbathing by the glistening pool. We don’t know about you, but we could easily spend all day out here, sipping a refreshing Andalusian cocktail and getting to know the loveable pets that live next door. If you fancy getting out and about though, why not drive into Taberno for an afternoon of sightseeing before heading back home and treating yourself to a delicious barbecue on the porch? This no-frills apartment is just 150 metres from the sandy shores of Benidorm's Playa de Levante. The location in the old town is fantastic – restaurants, shops, and bars are all steps away – though that does mean it can get a little noisy at night. Back home, there isn't any outdoor space, but the floor-to-ceiling windows act as an internal balcony, making it an excellent spot to savour a glass of wine and watch the world pass by. One guest will sleep on a sofa bed, and only the living area has air conditioning (the bedrooms have fans). That said, it does the trick for a central pad a short stroll from the beach.

With its perfectly pitched and elevated position, overlooking the fauna-studded landscape and out across the Mediterranean, this home invites you to experience the height of relaxation. 

You'll likely find yourselves stretched out by the infinity pool much of the time. And with sleek sun loungers, a sumptuous outdoor lounge and a barbecue, as well as an outdoor fireplace that glows into the dark hours of the evening – we can see exactly why you'd want to spend the majority of your stay out here.  

The interior, however, is just as sublime, as minimalist designs showcase a laid-back space packed with style and amenities. This villa covers all bases – there’s a basement kitted out with a playroom and plenty of space for the little ones to run around, a pool table for the teens of the group to keep entertained, and private pockets for adult socialisation – we think the terrace chairs are an idyllic spot to share sangrias at sunset. And when the whole group wants to come together, there’s a huge living room for games nights, though we expect the infinity pool takes the top spot.

Set moments away from Villajoyosa, with its quaint Old Town and pristine sandy beach, Palmitas offers the ideal holiday escape for anyone looking to combine sun and sea with a taste of Spanish culture. Kids (and the young at heart) will love splashing around in the private pool, followed by a fierce game of ping pong or table football, while aspiring chefs will undoubtedly appreciate the fully equipped kitchen and outdoor barbecue area. Beyond the property’s stylish, modern interior, the real wow factor comes upon stepping outside and being met with seemingly endless views across the Mediterranean. End the day with a moonlit swim, or perhaps cosying up in the welcoming lounge area, complete with satellite TV and PlayStation.

An ideal setting for large family gatherings, this sprawling homestead is made up of four separate buildings. Alongside the main house, there's a casita ideal for kids and a wooden lodge for those wanting extra privacy – though some people will sleep on sofa beds. Our favourite is the summer kitchen, where all twenty-three guests can tuck into tapas together. The pool will also be a big hit, even if there are only eight loungers. Location-wise, you'll be 22 kilometres from the beach in Guardamar del Segura. Also within driving distance is Alicante if you want to explore further afield.

If you're looking for your own tropical paradise to take the family to, then look no further than this gorgeous Spanish home. Set on a huge plot of land, you'll have the freedom to roam around the beautifully tranquil patio and garden areas surrounding the villa. Wake up early and take in the golden morning sunshine on the terracotta tiled patio before serving up a family continental breakfast with café con leches in the garden. You will feel surrounded by nature here, with plenty of lush green spaces to enjoy. The star of the show is the swimming pool area though, which has palm trees dotted all around looking like they're part of a tropical chess board. We guarantee you'll be spending your afternoons here splashing around and making memories under the swaying palms.

The inside of the home itself is a lovely blend of modern furnishings mixed with traditional features. You probably won't be spending much of your time inside on the hot days, but during the cold nights, you can look forward to snuggling up around the lounge woodburner while sharing stories. When looking to venture outside of this wonderful home, you'll be glad to know you're in a prime location to take advantage of the area. It won't take you long to be swimming in the Meditteranean – Guardamar del Segura beach is only 13km away. Trips into the city of Murcia are a must too. It's not too far by car, and when you're there, you'll be able to wander its historic streets and admire its beautiful architecture. Murcia is a great day out for the whole family.

Right by Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, this beautiful villa offers serenity and luxury. We think families will have a blast here – your host can provide a free cot to make travelling with little ones a breeze, though children will need supervision around the unfenced infinity pool. There's plenty of outdoor seating on the astroturf for sunbathing and enjoying a drink by the summer kitchen, and lots of space to park. We think you'll need a car here to get the most out of this fantastic location – the city of Murcia is around an hour away, along with the region's golden coastline.

La Spirited

This grand villa sits in an incredible position, just outside the shambling hilltop village of Finestrat. Dramatic views of forest-clad mountains run down to the ocean (it’s a 15-minute drive down to the sandy beach at Cala Finestrat). Surrounded by rambling gardens and grounds, this place is a secluded sanctuary. Two huge sun terraces and a huge, Roman-style swimming pool bask in the plentiful Costa Blanca sunshine. Balustraded terraces, arched porches, and stone-columned pergolas give a real sense of gravitas to the grounds. Inside, you’ll find plenty of space for your whole group to stretch out and enjoy your time together, with three different seating areas in front of TVs and fireplaces. Opulently furnished with a palette of deep reds and yellows, it feels welcoming and bright from the get-go. The living spaces are dressed head to toe in finery, with bold artworks dramatically lit and chandeliers. As evening falls the calm and quiet of the location really comes into its own. When dusk fades to night the stars begin to appear over the mountains and the distant lights of the coastal towns glitter along the horizon. This Grande Dame of a villa knows just what she’s doing.

Señora Blanca

This villa is perfect for large groups seeking a relaxing break. It’s 5 kilometres from Catral  and 10 kilometres from the Parque Natural del Hondo, which makes for a tranquil day trip. With only five bedrooms between twenty guests, there’ll be quite a few guests sleeping on sofa beds, but you’ll have plenty of space to spread out during your waking hours. The outside space includes a huge terrace, lush gardens, and a private pool. You can dine alfresco and cook on the built-in barbecue. We recommend bringing a car so you can explore the surrounding area – there are lakes, beaches, and golf courses nearby.

The Lagoon Song

With a string of eateries and bars close by and quick and easy access to sandy Levante Beach, this apartment in Benidorm's Old Town is a functional base for a family or group of friends. With floor-to-ceiling windows, the living area catches plenty of sunlight and is ideal for relaxing between excursions. That said, there isn't a tonne of space at capacity, with one guest on the sofa bed. But with that excellent location, we think you'll be out exploring too often to notice.

Coastline Memories

This coastal pet-friendly apartment has a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with one of Guardamar's golden sandy beaches right on your doorstep. The furnishings are a little dated, and we think the place could do with an update, but being on the fifth floor ensures you'll have lovely views. We recommend having a car here for day trips up to the cities of Alicante or Elche, but Centre Beach, as well as Guardamar's local shops, cafes and restaurants, are all within walking distance.

Sea Breeze Heaven

This modern villa is the perfect retreat for those looking for a restful break. You’re a little further removed from the touristy areas here, which means you can really unwind. We recommend hiring a car or two to make the most of your time here – there are golf courses and beaches to discover. There’s plenty of room for you to spend time together at the villa, though two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room – it’s still a comfy spot. We love the terrace for alfresco dining, and the private pool is sure to please.

It’s a 500m stroll to the waterfront, where you can follow the promenade straight to the soft-sanded beach. By the water, you’ll find a healthy selection of bars, restaurants and cafes to fuel beachy days.

The apartment itself is a charming medley of sleek modernism and boho touches. The monochrome kitchen has everything you need for self-catering and the cosy living area has raw wood touches and throws adding a bit of character. But the best thing has to be the private balcony, furnished with lounge furniture and a dinner table.
