Amidst the dramatic backdrop of the sand-hued ancient castles and rolling hills of Plans de Sió sits this restored 16th-century farmhouse. Once a vineyard, the garden is now home to a stunning octagonal swimming pool, reminiscent of a Moorish plunge pool, a ping pong table, outdoor dining with a barbecue, and a wrap-around terrace overlooking the endless fields and forests. The view here is particularly breathtaking at sunset. Inside, the ancient stone walls are adorned with unique pieces by local artists and shelves show off trinkets from around the globe. The kitchen retains its old farmhouse charm, but shining chrome appliances give away the 21st-century make-over. A collection of outbuildings are now home to covered outdoor dining with the rustic simplicity of a monk’s refectory, and an old storeroom has been converted into a plush home cinema with velvet seats and perfect acoustics. Bedrooms feel hotel-grade luxurious, but what we really love are the retained old flourishes of the former farmhouse – stone tables for grinding corn, stone barrel rooms now holding bedrooms and a master bedroom in the old kitchen, still with its striking ancient hearth. Breakfast is also included every day.  

Ridge & Furrow

With stunning gardens and plenty of outdoor terraces, this traditional Spanish villa is quite the summer retreat. Think long, warm days taking in the coastal vistas, chatting with the friendly locals and alfresco dining to your heart’s content. Inside the home, wooden beams, spiralling staircases and stone arches all add to the rustic design. As you leave the address, in one direction you have a beautiful white sand beach a ten-minute walk away where you can relax and swim, and in the other, there's a selection of mountainous nature reserves that are ideal for a day of scenic hiking. Back at your temporary home, you can also access the holiday complex's shared amenities, which include everything you need for a rejuvenating afternoon — a hot tub, sauna, fitness room, spa area and hydro-massage bath. Let's just say that boredom will never fly as an excuse here.

Under An Azure Sky

With beautiful views over the coastal hills of Canyelles, this peaceful farmhouse offers natural tranquillity, engulfed in olive groves and Bougainvillaea. Completely secluded, yet only twenty minutes from the vibrant, cultural town of Sitges, you can make the most of seafront excursions and rural living.

This impressive finca, clad in natural stone, is a perfect spot for idyllic days spent by the palm tree-lined pool and lunches of jamón Ibérico and pimientos de padrón al fresco on the terrace. Inside, you’ll be treated to leather, Mid-Century furnishings against a backdrop of neutral hues and design elements that hint at the traditional countryside - think wooden tables and rattan light fixtures. This breezy space is the perfect spot for family and friends wanting to make the most of Catalan living.

Just twenty minutes from your home, you’ll find the powdery sands of Sitges. Spend the day beachside with vistas of the Garraf Massif mountains, or explore the eclectic artworks in the stunning, former seaside residence, Palau de Maricel. As the sun dips beneath the limestone cliffs, nestle in at Alfresco Restaurante for stunning local wines and fresh seafood a la plancha. After your day out, make your way back to your villa for a swim under the stars.

Farmhouse in Bloom

Wide, expansive rooms decorated in deluxe fittings exude the feel of a five-star hotel, yet the exotic palm trees and plant life emit a tropical beach vibe. Charmingly rustic in parts and brimming with luxury in others, this home oozes character from the moment you enter.

All the rooms made for comfort, such as the living room and bedrooms, are shaped by modern furniture. The kitchen is propped by low-vaulted wooden beams, facing down on high-quality cooking appliances. 

Wander out into the glorious outdoor space and the energy slightly changes. Find a quaint outdoor kitchen and BBQ, perfect for cooking up sizzling feasts on those warm, summer evenings. Once the food is prepared, you're certainly not short of places to enjoy it.

A long, wooden dining table and cushioned sofas are the perfect social spots to share chorizo, tapas and paella. There's also stools lining the kitchen side should you wish to adopt a beach-bar atmosphere. 

For the times when you're not sampling the food, the gorgeous outdoor area is made for relaxation. Chill in the pool, lounge on the sun beds or make your way to the balcony for a spot of privacy. If you're someone who likes to keep active, there's a mini football pitch with small goals. 

Five Star Beach Bar

This Catalan beauty is a remarkable find. The house was built in 1903 by the best craftsmen of the time, and it’s been lovingly nurtured since. The gardens are a masterpiece of Italian design, featuring terraces, fountains, and pergolas. There’s even a hidden pavilion and a private pool tucked in amongst the orange blossom. Inside, there are two living and dining rooms, so you’ll have plenty of space to spread out and relax. This stunning home is in Piera, just 40 kilometres from Barcelona in the wine region of El Penedés – you’ll have your pick when it comes to planning day trips. 

The Sunlight's Kiss

The former sleeping quarters of the Marquesa de Gironella, this characterful apartment oozes old-world charm. We can't get enough of the sky-high beamed ceilings or the huge windows – they truly are as impressive as they look – nor can we take our eyes off those views. Step out onto the balconies (there are three of them) and admire the rolling valley and the estate's verdant garden. One balcony even has a quaint bistro-style table – whether you're enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning breeze or trying the regional wine gifted by your lovely hosts, it's the ideal spot to relax in the Spanish rays. And speaking of the sun, all of the estate runs on sustainable sources like solar panels, which provide electricity, hot water, and underfloor heating.

What we love most, however, are the impressive grounds. Enjoy an afternoon dip in the pool, play a game of table tennis, or use a mountain bike and explore the trails leading into the Catalan countryside. The sleepy medieval village centre of La Torre de Claramunt is just around the corner – there you’ll find a few local eateries, a delicious bakery and an 11th-century castle. It's hard to believe that this traditional town is only a fifty-minute drive from Barcelona's city centre – we think it's pretty perfect for those craving a laid-back stay in the heart of Catalonia.

The Marquesa's Chambers

If you’re in search of a sun-kissed stay on the Costa Daurada, this home delivers a bright solution. It’s just a short stroll to the beach, while the nearest restaurants and shops are all within easy walking distance. It’s also a great base for hiking and cycling in the surrounding countryside. And when it comes to rest and relaxation, this home offers a private pool for refreshing swims and a terrace with a barbecue for alfresco dining. Inside, the rooms are simple, minimal and well-equipped for families in search of a low-key getaway.

After a quick afternoon snooze on the sofa, pack your seaside essentials and take the six-minute stroll down to Platja de la Cala Crancs. Stretch out on the sand and go swimming in the sea. Later, gather your things and end the day with a delicious seafood supper in the lively town of Tarragona, just fifteen minutes away by taxi.
