Inside, you’ll be treated to leather, Mid-Century furnishings against a backdrop of neutral hues and design elements that hint at the traditional countryside - think wooden tables and rattan light fixtures. This breezy space is the perfect spot for family and friends wanting to make the most of Catalan living.

Just twenty minutes from your home, you’ll find the powdery sands of Sitges. Spend the day beachside with vistas of the Garraf Massif mountains, or explore the eclectic artworks in the stunning, former seaside residence, Palau de Maricel. As the sun dips beneath the limestone cliffs, nestle in at Alfresco Restaurante for stunning local wines and fresh seafood a la plancha. It’s worth noting there is no private parking here, but you will find great public transport links. It’s also just a short stroll through the vibrant streets of Sant Antoní towards restaurants, bars and shops.

Indeed, there’s a fifteenth-century church within the grounds, alongside modern perks like a shared swimming pool and covered hot tub. In the heart of the Catalan countryside, hilltop walks past crumbling castles can fill your days, or perhaps make the hour’s drive to Barcelona for a day trip in the big city.

This apartment has all the farmhouse charm we’d expect from a rural retreat. Think wood-beamed ceilings and terracotta-tiled floors. Though there are a few modern touches too, like the geometric feature light above the dining table and midnight-blue walls in the full kitchen. The bedroom is super spacious and it’s a delight to wake up to countryside views from the big windows. There’s also a cute little balcony with a bistro table, perfect for your morning coffee to the sound of birds in the surrounding forest hills.   

Midnight Moon

Strikingly modern yet rustic at the same time, the wooden beams have been left exposed to show the bones of this magnificent former farmhouse. While statement lighting and luxurious finishes, including a slick bathroom and kitchen area designed with wheelchair users in mind, bring the apartment firmly into the 21st Century.

Open the arched windows of the Juliet balconies wide to reveal woodland scenes as you fire up the coffee machine – only bird song could disturb you here. And when it's time to embrace the great outdoors, there are excellent paths nearby for hiking and cycling, or for the more adventurous, waterfall canyoning (your host has some great tips for exploring the neighbourhood). Or simply pad out into the rambling communal gardens where you'll find a shared swimming pool and Jacuzzi to soak up the views of the surrounding forests and neighbouring castle of Orpí. Immersed in nature, you could feel a million miles from anywhere here. But if you fancy a change of pace, Barcelona and the shores of Sitges and Costa Dorada are all under an hour's drive away. Good luck convincing anyone to leave this dreamy place, though.

Another drive worth taking is to Penedès, the famous wine region, just fifteen minutes away. If memory-making in nature is top of the list, discover Parque Natural del Garraf for cycling and horse riding.

The Old Arroyo

Modern architecture, contemporary furnishings with hints of colour and stupendous sea views will have you ready for that holiday in the Spanish sun. Clean lines, wooden floors and stone tiles create the perfect environment to enjoy a coastal home and let the ocean itself take centre stage. Explore the seven-kilometre sandy beach on the Mediterranean, five minutes' walk away, before spending an afternoon by the pool surrounded by lush greenery. Come evening, crank up the barbecue and put your mixology skills to the test at the sleek bar before finding a spot to settle down in, taking a moment to appreciate your blissful surrounds and the impending sunset.

Villa Prismatic

The former sleeping quarters of the Marquesa de Gironella, this characterful apartment oozes old-world charm. We can't get enough of the sky-high beamed ceilings or the huge windows – they truly are as impressive as they look – nor can we take our eyes off those views. Step out onto the balconies (there are three of them) and admire the rolling valley and the estate's verdant garden. One balcony even has a quaint bistro-style table – whether you're enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning breeze or trying the regional wine gifted by your lovely hosts, it's the ideal spot to relax in the Spanish rays. And speaking of the sun, all of the estate runs on sustainable sources like solar panels, which provide electricity, hot water, and underfloor heating.

What we love most, however, are the impressive grounds. Enjoy an afternoon dip in the pool, play a game of table tennis, or use a mountain bike and explore the trails leading into the Catalan countryside. The sleepy medieval village centre of La Torre de Claramunt is just around the corner – there you’ll find a few local eateries, a delicious bakery and an 11th-century castle. It's hard to believe that this traditional town is only a fifty-minute drive from Barcelona's city centre – we think it's pretty perfect for those craving a laid-back stay in the heart of Catalonia.

The Marquesa's Chambers

Catalonia village life awaits at this sublime apartment housed in a 450-year-old Masia residence in rural Barcelona.
