This Spanish home provides an idyllic getaway to spend quality time with your loved ones. Though the house may appear a bit dated in parts, we think it’s part of its charm and adds a cosy feel to the place. With several indoor spaces including a library, two kitchens and a glass pergola, there’s plenty of room for entertaining. The house is right by Montserrat, so you can easily explore this beautiful natural area and its monastery. If you fancy more hustle and bustle, the great city of Barcelona is less than an hour’s drive away. 

On the Montserrat

This home couldn't be better located for exploring Spain's Costa Daurada. Spend an afternoon sprawled out on the golden sands of El Canyadell and Torredembarra beaches, both just a short stroll away from this home. Or explore Spain's second-most important Roman site with its museum and coastal amphitheatre in Tarragona, a twenty-minute drive away. Later, head down to the port and try one of the tempting restaurants to sample Catalan specialities, the perfect way to end the evening. 

Back at home, this sunny home makes the ideal base to rest your feet. Have a glass of white wine from the renowned Ribera d'Ebre region on the wraparound bougainvillaea-covered terrace, catching the last of the day's rays. Inside, sink into the comfy rattan sofas in the light-filled, open-plan living space – there's even a wood burner to gather around on chillier nights. If you don't fancy eating out, fire up the barbecue in the garden and cook up a feast to enjoy at the large table shaded by trees – alfresco dining at its finest.  

Pink Bougainvillaeas

Housed in an ancient Masía dating back some 450 years, the hosts have expertly reimagined the residence into seven exclusive holiday retreats. Strikingly modern yet rustic at the same time, the wooden beams have been left exposed to show the bones of this magnificent former farmhouse. While statement lighting and luxurious finishes, including a slick bathroom and kitchen area designed with wheelchair users in mind, bring the apartment firmly into the 21st Century.

Open the arched windows of the Juliet balconies wide to reveal woodland scenes as you fire up the coffee machine – only bird song could disturb you here. And when it's time to embrace the great outdoors, there are excellent paths nearby for hiking and cycling, or for the more adventurous, waterfall canyoning (your host has some great tips for exploring the neighbourhood). Or simply pad out into the rambling communal gardens where you'll find a shared swimming pool and Jacuzzi to soak up the views of the surrounding forests and neighbouring castle of Orpí. Immersed in nature, you could feel a million miles from anywhere here. But if you fancy a change of pace, Barcelona and the shores of Sitges and Costa Dorada are all under an hour's drive away. Good luck convincing anyone to leave this dreamy place, though.

The Old Masía

It's hard to imagine anything more romantic than staying in a pad which used to be a ballroom – but this is exactly the case with this charming apartment, located in a unique building complex in the heart of the Catalan countryside. 

You can still notice the unmistakable features the moment you step through the door, and you’ll find yourself longing to break into a spontaneous spin. And why not? With the conservative furnishings and terracotta floors, there is more than enough room to enjoy a candlelight supper and slow dance around. 

We love the rustic feel of the place: the stones and wooden features have been sourced from the local area, preserving the authentic décor. There is also plenty of natural light flooding in, courtesy of the large, floor to ceiling windows. On hot afternoons, why not head down to the communal pool for a dip – the view of the surrounding hills is truly spectacular here.
