Based in the Vuokatti ski centre, you’ll be minutes from the Vuokatti ski slope and the centre’s cross country track. And when the weather’s warmer, it’s just a 15-minute walk to the nearest beach. Outside, there’s plenty of storage space for skis and a small terrace for those long summer nights. Of course, this being Finland, you’d expect a sauna, and this home doesn’t disappoint. So whether it’s après ski or après hike, you can be guaranteed hot steam to help you unwind. The interior of this home is cool white with warm wood, and the open, double-height living space feels grand. There’s a sturdy wood burner to keep it warm, and up the steep wooden staircase, the cosy bedrooms are perfectly comfortable. 

Glacier Mint

Fans of adventure will love this smart apartment, located in the Sotkamo region of Finland. Just a matter of steps away from the piste, and with a range of excellent amenities on offer, it's the perfect pick for groups who are keen to get back to nature.

In the summer, this home is a brilliant base for invigorating hiking and cycling trips through the rugged landscapes. You can hire a boat to explore one of the countless lakes, or try your hand at fishing to catch your own dinner – for lovers of the great outdoors, it doesn't get much better than this.

Lovers of the great outdoors will be enchanted by this sleek home, located in the Sotkamo region of Finland. It's only a stone's throw away from the piste, and has some excellent amenities on offer, making it an ideal choice for friends or a family who want to immerse themselves in nature.

There's also a balcony, complete with a barbeque, where you can grill up some delicious salmon and breathe in the fresh air. And, you can even tee off at the local golf course – it's just a quick drive away.

Found in Vuokatti Ski Centre, this apartment is a lovely spot to return to after a day of tearing up the slopes. Not only is there a crackling fireplace in the living room next to which you can warm cold fingers, but there's also an electric sauna so you can fully embrace a Finnish tradition.

An added bonus comes in the shape of a balcony with forest views and some seating from which to enjoy this peaceful vista. You also appreciate this scenery rom the communal living space, which is full of comfy furnishings and some pretty jazzy curtains.

Interior design aside, there's a simple reason why people consider this address — the resort's slopes can be reached in a mere five minutes on foot, along with a pair of restaurants. In addition to skiing, the banks of Jäätiönlampi lake can be reached in six minutes' drive and the town of Kajaani is half an hour away.

This wood-built house takes cosiness to the next level, with the living room sporting a hardwood backdrop and a glimpse of khaki to provide a splash of colour, you'll feel perfectly at home. Step out into the covered seating area to watch the snowfall drop gracefully on the ground, with a hot chocolate to keep you warm.  Get your skis at the ready and head to the Vuokatti ski slopes and enjoy the scenery as you glide down the crisp snow.

Not only is skiing offered, but a short walk away is an adventure park and swimming spots – if you can withstand the cold for a refreshing plunge that is. During the warmer months, head out for a delightful hike, with many nearby routes to explore. After a day in the great outdoors, appreciate a soothing session in the sauna before retiring to the Skandi bedroom for a restful night's sleep.


The Wintry Moon

Some people prefer summer to winter but we think they're missing a trick, especially when it comes to this house. Nestled on the snow-capped slopes of Vuokatti, this place is perfectly located for winter fun, and there’s a ski service room to get your gear ready from the slopes. After a quick five-minute drive, you can be racing (or tentatively sliding) down those snowy tracks, hiking up the tree-studded hills, or just enjoying the scenery with a hot toddy in hand – something we can imagine doing a lot of, particularly when there's a roaring fire involved and a comfy sofa to curl up on. Though if you really want to warm your cockles, you should make a beeline for the home’s sauna, which you have all to yourself (providing you nab it before friends and family do). And, if you're still not convinced about a winter break, you can always come here in summer and while away the hours at the beach and glistening lake, which are just a stone's throw away. 

Arctic Wonderland

Summers rowing your boat on the lake and winters skiing at the nearby resort make this home a magnificent base for holidays no matter the season. Thanks to the wood burning fireplace and the sauna, you’ll always feel cosy and warm in colder seasons. You’re in Vuokatti, where activity centres offer zip-lining through the trees, boating on the lakes and skiing down the hillsides. In summer it’s all about lazy days by the lakeside, fishing or hiking through the forest trails, while in winter, when the evergreens are heavy with snow, the cross-country trails and downhill slopes for skiers open up. There’s a supply shop a short walk from your apartment and an onsite restaurant too.

The apartment itself is a haven of modernity inside, with white-wash brick walls and pendant lamps keeping things stylish. Not only is there a fireplace in the living room that you can huddle around, but there's also a glass-doored sauna in the bathroom — also handy for sweating out any toxins if you overdid it at the apres-ski bars the night before

Aside from that, we also like the minimalist kitchen with sleek white surfaces that are big enough for whipping up hearty feasts and the balcony that looks out to peaceful forest views. During the summer months, you can even fire up the gas barbecue in this space and dine alfresco.

Given that the home sits in the middle of a ski resort, the distance to the slopes is pretty important and thankfully, you can reach them in a little over five minutes' walk here. If you're looking for a little variety, there's a theme park less than five minutes' drive away and the banks of Lake Jäätiönlampi in about half that time.
