You'll find this gorgeous family-size cottage, surrounded by unspoilt countryside, at the foot of the typical Provençal village of Ventabren, is just about as sweet as it gets. We're not sure if BBC sent you here, but if you want a closer look at Mulberry House's kitchen, look no further than Rick Stein’s 'Secret France' featuring the smiley host making a delicious meal here — and were absolutely expect your to try to recreate it! This is a typical French hilltop chateau, but this doesn't mean it's ordinary. The casually welcoming atmosphere is a product of modern furniture and restored period features, the kitchen being the best example of this harmony. Still, we expect you to spend much more time around this home than in it. With the huge pool that's perfect for a morning splash and the futuristic loungers around it, a gorgeous dining spot under the pergola, and a breezy back garden, there are plenty of spots to socialise or reflect in peace. The historic home boasts magnificent 14th-century features including limestone architecture, exposed timber beams, and antique furniture. It’s been stocked with modern amenities including a Nespresso machine and hotel-quality beds, and with local touches like olive-oil toiletries. Best of all, there’s a private roof terrace that offers sweeping panoramic views of Provence.

This beautiful village house is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday in the Luberon region of Provence. The property is located on a hillside on the edge of Gordes, one of France's classified 'Plus Beaux Villages'. The Provençal valley views from the terraced grounds are incredible.

The house has been decorated with refined style and there's an authentic ambience across its elegant lounge, dining room and perfectly equipped kitchen with doors sliding open to the al-fresco dining terrace. Modern additions include air-conditioning throughout, a Sonos music system and Smart TVs in its mezzanine lounge and two of the three bedrooms.

Sleeping up to six guests, the bedrooms are gorgeous, one with a king-size double bed, wood-beamed ceiling and romantic rolltop bath, another with a queen-size double, sofa and en suite shower room and the third en suite with twin beds and lovely views through its little windows. 

Outside, the vistas of Provence will take your breath away whether you are enjoying a glass of Luberon AOC wine on the upper terrace or peacefully reading on the outdoor sofa beneath the poolside pergola. The swimming pool is superb for warm summer days when you don't wish to venture too far. We love the rustic charm of the terraced grounds with old stone steps, pretty pathways and swathes of summer colour.

Smell the lavender and feel the sun on your skin as you wander around the quintessentially Mediterranean gardens with a view overlooking the valley of the Luberon park and the Mourre Nègre. Down the cobbled stone steps, you'll find a hidden terrace that features a heated infinity swimming pool, lounge terrace and breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape. 

Inside, the traditional country style 17th-century maison features seven large bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom making it an ideal spot for large families or groups of friends. The open living areas present plenty of space to enjoy as a group – as you'll find two kitchens, a piano, a ping pong table, petanque and board games. 

For those travelling with children, the house also has a dormitory-style bedroom which allows up to eight children to spend unforgettable moments together in one large suite with its own bathroom and double shower.

Although the home is in the middle of the countryside and completely tranquil, all supermarkets and shops are located within just fifteen minutes from the town of Apt, where you'll find several spots to pick up the shopping (including Intermarché, Leclerc, Auchan and LIDL) as well as local stores offering regional fare at the independent butcher's, fruit and vegetables store and bakery.

If you’d like to sample some of the local wines, your host can arrange a wine-tasting session. The home itself comprises a main house and a separate annexe, rented together. At full occupancy, four guests will be sleeping in single beds in the same bedroom – this room is best for kids who will love the colourful en-suite. The traditional decor here may not be to everyone’s tastes but we think most people will be won over by the views from the poolside. Location-wise, you’re surrounded by hiking trails and just 3 kilometres from the nearest town for shops, restaurants and bars.

When you stay at this apartment in La Ciotat, you’ll be just steps away from the Sunday market. It’s also under a five-minute stroll to the Old Port and fifteen minutes from La Ciotat’s beaches. The home itself has been renovated by an architect and includes a large living-dining room with a sofa bed, which guests five and six will be sleeping on. One thing to note is that there's air conditioning in the living space and the main bedroom only. There is also a children's bedroom with a bunk bed off the main bedroom, so this place is ideal for families.

Surrounded by lush greenery, this Provençal farmhouse will delight sun worshippers and wine lovers alike. The outdoor pool is the real centrepiece, but the garden boasts plenty of other spots for kicking back with a glass of rosé, including a shaded patio with an outdoor kitchen for a spot of alfresco cooking. The interior isn’t quite as striking with some rooms feeling a little dated. But the space has, nonetheless, retained plenty of traditional charm with its exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings, making it a nice backdrop for cosy evenings in. And location-wise, you’re just a short drive from some of Provence’s most beautiful villages, so you won’t have to venture far to get a taste of local culture – and viticulture.

Set on a stunning country estate in the heart of Barbentane, this 18th-century house features an array of charming original features and modern amenities that guarantee a luxurious stay filled with memories. Wander around the hectare of grounds, where you'll find an abundance of fauna and flora amidst the rosemary and thyme gardens. Unwind on the surrounding lawns surrounded by Provençal plants, or better still, take a seat on the terrace shaded by the ancient trees.

The interior of the house has been sensitively restored. Classic features, including wooden beams, an open hearth and ornate tiles are maintained whilst modern finishes complement its original charm. There are plenty of spaces dedicated to relaxation inside the home - a serene living room with plush sofas or a calm master suite opening out to a Juliette balcony. We highly doubt a rainy day here, however, the pianist of the group can soundtrack evenings in front of the crackling fire if a shower does show.

Leisurely afternoons are best spent in the pool or lounging on the south-facing terrace. Come evening time, gather around the Mediterranean-style dining room for a chef-cooked dinner with the region’s best ingredients. End the evening with a few games of boules as the sunset unfolds.

Located around fifteen minutes from the centre of Avignon, you'll be within a short drive of an array of national parks and picturesque streets lined with boulangeries and local restaurants.

While plenty of period features remain, the interior is mostly furnished with high-end minimalist pieces that create a delightful hybrid atmosphere. Still, we don't expect you to be spending most of your time admiring the furniture — the outdoor parts of this home are far more exciting than the insides. From the alfresco spots and loungers scattered around the garden to the huge swimming pool that's perfect for  a morning swim, Garden Escape does its name justice. When you're ready to venture a little farther, the charming town of St-Remy where Van Gogh painted the famous 'Starry Night' is only a short walk away, but since you'll be staying in the heart of Provence, every road will take you to a beautiful market town. Bring back a nice bottle of wine and enjoy watching the sunset from the garden. Retreat to the breezy living room for a movie night, and prepare for another day of relaxation.

It’s a fifteen-minute ride to the medieval village of Gordes and for a real challenge, you can head on to the slopes of Mount Ventoux. Hikers can hit the trails of Les Gorges de Véroncle, a short walk away. The walled garden is home to a summer kitchen for lazy lunches outside and the swimming pool awaits after a day’s exertion. Sleek and monochrome, the open living area and kitchen belies the traditional exterior. A thirty-minute drive from the red rooftops of Avignon, this home allows you to explore the depths of the Provence countryside. In this wonderfully organic landscape, it’s hard to believe you’re just an hour from the metropolis of Marseille. So if lush, verdant scenery is more your thing, this home certainly won’t disappoint.

Jade, forest, emerald, lime, olive, mint – you can use every single word for green to describe the charming exterior of this home. From tall leafy trees, to flowerbeds, to shrubs that flow onto the stone paths, this garden is a botanical marvel set over a hectare. Of course there’s a private pool, but we prefer the shade of the terrace and the boules court. You’ll love having meals at one of many alfresco dining spots, especially when you can cook in the fresh air of the outdoor kitchen.

As the cicadas come out by night, head into the main house. Its wooden doors and shutters are green, naturally. Traditional, rustic decor harks back to this home’s days as a farmhouse, but antique furniture and gilded frames create a luxury edge. Someone will be sleeping in the annexe – but its indoor hot tub might sway opinions a bit.

If that’s not enough to sell you on the scenic beauty of the green Avignon landscape surrounding the home, we’re not sure what is. Spacious enough for a family or group of couples and friends, the home is open-plan to adhere to sociable and seamless indoor-outdoor living. Start the day in the orangery with a traditional French breakfast and lounge in the shade under parasols by the pool. Find a place to hide in the secluded gardens, or get out and about for a hike in the nearby natural park for a rare bird sighting. Say au revoir to the day under the stars on the terrace.

We suggest heading to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence's old town on a Wednesday morning in particular as the farmer's market selling fresh and local fare presents an atmospheric and oh so French scene to leave inspired by.

The Lemon Garden is a delightful farmhouse conversion with huge gardens, meadows, and olive orchards. You'll be able to smell the lavender as soon as you arrive and we highly recommend a daily walk just to take in the natural beauty that surrounds your holiday residence. The Provençal character in this home is extremely powerful — think rustic furnishings, period features, and plenty of outdoor hangouts with natural shade where you can enjoy a glass of local wine. Since you'll be staying only three kilometres from St-Rémy, we strongly recommend that you drive there at least once, finding clues of what inspired Van Gogh to pain some of his most powerful works here. We expect you'll stumble on a few shops along the way and bring back ingredients for a proper meal, then put them together in the well-equipped kitchen. If you have time in your busy schedule, go for a refreshing swim in the private pool and do a bit of reading before dinner. Watch the sunset together from the comfort of your garden and retreat indoors to watch a movie together.

We’d recommend you pack your paint brushes, too - St-Rémy-de-Provence, an essential place of pilgrimage for any budding artist, is only a short drive away.

This spacious, sun-drenched home is the ideal spot for those seeking a relaxing holiday amidst the stunning scenery of the Provençal countryside. Although you're sure to be spending countless hours in the gardens, the recently renovated living quarters are also quite mesmerising. The bright and contemporary lounge has bundles of charm, as do the super-sleek bathrooms with freestanding tubs begging for a soak.

When treated to gardens such as these, you might not see much point in exploring beyond the home's boundaries. However, the village of Noves is one kilometre away if you change your mind and the city of Avignon is only a 15-kilometre car journey, too.
