We particularly love the main bedroom with its four-poster bed and ocean vistas (there's also an office area here if you want to write a travel blog or catch up on work). In fact, there are sea views to enjoy from most rooms. The highlight, though, for us, is the private garden area around the apartment – you have a terrace and garden furniture for alfresco meals – it's a great space overlooking the Grande Plage, as well as the Pointe de la Garde.

Spend idyllic days on the Grande Plage on your doorstep or indulge in some water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding or take some catamaran lessons. If you fancy exploring further afield, then Cape Fréhel, to the west, is perfect for bird watchers, or the nearby charming resort of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has a small port and coastal paths.

A stone's throw from the sandy beaches of Cancale, in the picture-pretty bay of Port Mer, this charming home offers the very best of coastal living. Boasting a gorgeous garden with plenty of cosy spots to sit down and breathe in the salty sea air, start your days with coffee on the lawn while watching the boats sail by. 

If you want to see the ocean up close, the beach is less than 1km away – take a walk down to the golden sands to discover what the famous Emerald Coast has to offer. When you're feeling peckish, Cancale oysters are a must-try. Head to one of the local restaurants or buy some from the Mont Saint-Michel oyster market and take them home to prepare yourself. We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed. 

When darkness falls, head inside to cuddle up on the sumptuous sofa to watch a movie. If you're travelling with little ones, the mezzanine level dens are the perfect place for a bedtime story to make sure they settle in for a good night's sleep. 

Emerald Coast of Cancale

We fell hard for this characterful home not far from the St Lunaire coastline and we're pretty sure other guests will be just as smitten. A lot of that is down to the design. Much of it is contemporary in scope, from the minimalist kitchen and stark white walls to the bare wooden floors and the chic selection of furnishings. However, there are a few features that hark back to the past, like the large cabinets filled with curios and the vintage wall signs.

One of our favourite parts of the home, however, is just how bright it feels – that's what'll happen if you fill the walls with large windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. If you want to feel the sun directly on your skin, you only have to step outside onto one of the pair of terraces, which have both loungers and an alfresco dining table for making the most of sunny weather.

If you're lucky with the forecast, you'll probably want to make the most of the fact that St Lunaire's main beach is less than a kilometre away and there are a few more along this stretch of Breton coastline to explore. The centre of town is just as close when you want restaurants and shops, but there's a greater variety in the Dinard, only a short drive away.

This delightful home is a countryside dream. Quaint in style, this home is part of a magnificent 400-year-old building, beautifully renovated and modernised. Exuding calm, you will feel the ambience before you even enter. Soft cream stone and white shutters set the scene for the beauty that resides indoors. The open-plan kitchen and living space is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a romantic evening cooking dinner. The moss green chaise centrepiece is where you may kick your slippers off and pop your feet up for an evening in front of the open fireplace. Moving up your spiral staircase, you’ll find a lovely bedroom decorated in French chic decor. Archway doorways, beamed ceilings and soft cream interiors set the scene for a restful night's sleep. 

On waking in the morning, peek out of your delightful windows across the countryside. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face and a gentle breeze as you sip on your morning coffee. Whilst you’ll be residing in this serene rural area, you’ll smell the salt water with the beaches only 2km away. Close to the village centre and quaint shops, you’ll have plenty to entertain you across the Emerald Coast. 

Moss Cottage

Making a stunning first impression with its fisherman charm, this cottage in the heart of Plouhinec is a perfect home for a family visiting Brittany’s coast. This location is a swimmer’s paradise, and with the salty breeze of Morbihan surrounding you, you’ll wake up ready to dive into the waters off of Magouëro Beach.

First thing in the morning, gather around the sleek table with an array of local cheeses, jammy confitures and a crusty baguette before heading out for a swim on Etel Beach – why not pack a picnic to enjoy on the sands ready for when hunger strikes? In the afternoon, explore the quaint Etel Port, where you can sample the native oysters and a glass of Muscadet overlooking the bobbing hulls. Return home, sink into the plump sofas for a cosy night with your loved ones and relax. Bliss.

Those with a penchant for golf are in luck too, with the 18-hole course at Pléneuf Val just 10-minutes away by car.

As night falls and a blanket of stars breaks out above, listen to the quiet chatter of your loved ones and feel yourself relax. This is where memories are made. 

Once Upon a Stable

Situated on the commune of Pleneuf-Val-Andre less than 1km from the beach lies this cosy home. Perfect for families, you'll have a large garden to let the kids play in alongside your furry friends, and a raised terrace with seating outdoors to comfortably enjoy the fresh air and blue skies. In the day, large windows and doors to the terrace let the sunlight bathe the open-plan living space, and you'll have the option of whipping up something in the kitchen, throwing a barbecue in the sunshine or heading out to one of many choices for fantastic nearby restaurants. In the evening, sit under the stars with a drink or gather in the living room with a movie on the big screen and let the wood stove heat you up – a perfect cosy evening.

You'll be close to the port of Dahouet, and will be able to benefit from close proximity to shops and pick up any necessities you might need. You won't have to compromise the practicality of your stay just because you want to stay away from the busiest areas and tourist traps! It's only a stroll down to the nearest beach where you can appreciate the sand, sun and sea of the coastline. Not to mention you'll also be close to an array of wonderful bars, boutiques and markets where you can immerse yourself in the culture of Pleneuf-Val-Andre and really feel like a local.

Even though this large home sits in the middle of a golf course in rural Brittany, there's plenty to keep guests occupied even if they're not keen followers of the sport.

Take the wonderful wellness space, for example. Surrounded by large windows that look out to the peaceful grounds, there's both a heated swimming pool and a Jacuzzi to recline in once you've done a length or two. If that sounds a little too sedate, there's a huge range of games, from foosball and ping-pong to a petanque court and an arcade machine on which you'll find over 1500 video games. We're not saying you'll be praying for rainy days, but they won't be the catastrophe they might be at other addresses.

At the same time, the huge garden offers lots of space and equipment for enjoying spells of sunny weather. You can embrace a French tradition on the petanque court, bounce about on the trampoline or do nothing more strenuous than read on the terrace – perhaps with dinner cooking away on the barbecue in the background.

We should also mention that the home – once a farmhouse in a former life – is a pleasing mix of rustic and contemporary aspects, with wooden ceiling beams and a few patches of exposed stonework sitting quite happily alongside stark white walls, bold artwork and a super-sleek minimalist kitchen.

When it comes to seeing a little more of this corner of France, there's a good selection of spots that are a short drive away. The seaside towns of Saint-Malo and Dinard are a quarter of an hour away by car for instance, while both Rennes and Mont Saint Michel take around forty minutes to reach.
