Carantec is a lovely part of France, and staying in this home makes it all the more lovely. This charming home can be found just a one-minute walk from Plage de la Grève Blanche, where you can stroll along the shore skimming stones and paddling in the shallows. 

When you return home from the beach, with the salt sea air in your hair, you might sit out in the garden to enjoy the last of the day’s sunshine. The courtyard is best early in the morning, when you can revel in the peace and quiet of this home. We love the terrace in the evenings – fire up the barbecue to grill locally caught fresh fish and pop open a bottle of wine. We could merrily while away hours in this way, spending time with loved ones and feeling the stresses of everyday life drift away on the sea breeze. 

Inside, you’ll find a tranquil haven. Neutral hues blend with cosy, soft furnishings and natural wood shades. The living and dining space is utterly serene, the perfect place to unwind. The sleek, modern kitchen is a delight to cook in, should you decide an evening at home is preferred over dining out. Climb the spiral staircase and you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms to choose from, both of which guarantee a blissful night’s sleep. A fairly neutral palette is broken up throughout the home with pops of colour, giving the whole space a calming, cosy vibe.

Our favourite part of this home is the terrace. Quite the sun trap during the day, it’s a peaceful place to retreat to as evening sets in. Grab yourself a bottle of fine French wine and settle down on the sofas with your loved ones. As night falls and a blanket of stars breaks out above, listen to the quiet chatter of your loved ones and feel yourself relax. This is where memories are made.

Built in 1906, you'll be just metres away from the sandy shores of le Grande Plage. With direct beach access via the stairs in front of the villa, from here, you're encouraged to meditate, do yoga, or relax while taking in the stunning blue views with a cup of tea in hand. Inside the beach villa, classic and nautical designs present a home bursting with character. We love the antique furniture pieces which add traditional French charm with bags of elegance. 

Thanks to its on-point location, you can enjoy scenic beach walks, rollerblading or cycling on the seawall. There's also a surf school just 200 metres away, and if actively participating in watersports isn't your thing, the beach's kitesurfers, windsurfers or surfers will guarantee an excellent show. Meanwhile, a mini-market and the many nearby restaurants offer an endless opportunity to sample the local Brittany delicacies and fresh seafood in Saint-Malo. 



Staring out to Sea 

Located in a former hotel, this apartment has breathtaking sea views. We particularly love the main bedroom with its four-poster bed and ocean vistas (there's also an office area here if you want to write a travel blog or catch up on work). In fact, there are sea views to enjoy from most rooms. The highlight, though, for us, is the private garden area around the apartment – you have a terrace and garden furniture for alfresco meals – it's a great space overlooking the Grande Plage, as well as the Pointe de la Garde.

Spend idyllic days on the Grande Plage on your doorstep or indulge in some water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding or take some catamaran lessons. If you fancy exploring further afield, then Cape Fréhel, to the west, is perfect for bird watchers, or the nearby charming resort of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has a small port and coastal paths.

Just hanging out here is pretty perfect in our opinion but when you want to head out and explore, the town is less than half an hour away on foot or a five-minute drive. Book a nearby boat trip, visit St Malo or discover some of the sandy beaches on the coast.

The interior has been furnished with gorgeous furniture that give it a rather retro-rustic atmosphere, and the host is keen on restoring period features, so that you can immerse yourself into the spirit of rural France. Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. When you've had your fill of sights for the day, return to your holiday residence and try out a new recipe, or get the charcoal barbecue going in the garden. After a nice meal, treat yourself to some local wine and organise a movie night with the help of the big flat-screen TV that's equipped with Freeview. 

Layers Upon Layers

With a view over the Anse de Doëlan, lazy afternoons can be spent watching the movements in the marina from the overlooking terrace of this home. Can you picture it? Sitting out on the deck with a glass of wine as the boats make their voyages? Almost as if counting sheep, you might find the activity calming and meditative, which probably has a little to do with the surroundings of this home. Tranquil and ripe with opportunity to visit the beaches around Le Pouldu, the woodland of Carnoët – with hiking trails in the famous GR 34 – there is plenty that will instil a soothing connection to the great outdoors. This apartment boasts an exceptional location in the heart of Rennes, on the square facing Saint Pierre Cathedral. Set on the third floor of a beautiful 19th century building complete with stained glass windows, the apartment is full of old world charm. High ceilings, wooden parquet floors, and ornate fireplaces characterise the space, which is bathed in natural light thanks to the tall windows. Each of the bedrooms is tastefully decorated, with comfortable beds and hotel quality sheets. There's a desk in the kids room in case you need to squeeze in some work. Throw open the curtains in the morning to admire the view of the Rennes rooftops and the cathedral, and enjoy coffee and croissants together at the dining table before heading out to explore. 

All of Rennes’ best attractions are within easy walking distance. Get a dose of culture at the Musée des Beaux-Arts before a restorative lunch at one of the local cafes. Spend the afternoon wandering the cobbled streets, admiring the historic timber-framed houses, or stroll along the canal. A day trip to Mont Sant Michel is unmissable – the mesmerising island topped with an abbey is an hour and fifteen minutes away by car. After a day of exploring, settle down in the sanctuary of your living room for a movie night together. 

Saint Pierre

A stone's throw from the sandy beaches of Cancale, in the picture-pretty bay of Port Mer, this charming home offers the very best of coastal living. Boasting a gorgeous garden with plenty of cosy spots to sit down and breathe in the salty sea air, start your days with coffee on the lawn while watching the boats sail by. 

If you want to see the ocean up close, the beach is less than 1km away – take a walk down to the golden sands to discover what the famous Emerald Coast has to offer. When you're feeling peckish, Cancale oysters are a must-try. Head to one of the local restaurants or buy some from the Mont Saint-Michel oyster market and take them home to prepare yourself. We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed. 

When darkness falls, head inside to cuddle up on the sumptuous sofa to watch a movie. If you're travelling with little ones, the mezzanine level dens are the perfect place for a bedtime story to make sure they settle in for a good night's sleep. 

Emerald Coast of Cancale

We fell hard for this characterful home not far from the St Lunaire coastline and we're pretty sure other guests will be just as smitten. A lot of that is down to the design. Much of it is contemporary in scope, from the minimalist kitchen and stark white walls to the bare wooden floors and the chic selection of furnishings. However, there are a few features that hark back to the past, like the large cabinets filled with curios and the vintage wall signs.

One of our favourite parts of the home, however, is just how bright it feels – that's what'll happen if you fill the walls with large windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. If you want to feel the sun directly on your skin, you only have to step outside onto one of the pair of terraces, which have both loungers and an alfresco dining table for making the most of sunny weather.

If you're lucky with the forecast, you'll probably want to make the most of the fact that St Lunaire's main beach is less than a kilometre away and there are a few more along this stretch of Breton coastline to explore. The centre of town is just as close when you want restaurants and shops, but there's a greater variety in the Dinard, only a short drive away.

This is a beautiful single-family house located in La Trinité sur Mer, just 900 metres from the sea and 1.4km from the beach. The house features large living and dining areas with beautiful furnishings, as well as an open kitchen with modern appliances and a dining nook. There are four bedrooms, including one on the ground floor with a French bed and an en-suite shower. Upstairs, there is another room with a French bed and two rooms with twin beds. Guests can enjoy a spacious terrace with outdoor furniture and a barbecue, as well as a garden that is currently being developed.
