We can easily see why Layers Upon Layers was chosen as one of the best homes for breaks in France in 2016 — it's typical French countryside home with oodles of charm and plenty of amenities that will help you make lifelong memories. The interior has been furnished with gorgeous furniture that give it a rather retro-rustic atmosphere, and the host is keen on restoring period features, so that you can immerse yourself into the spirit of rural France. Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. When you've had your fill of sights for the day, return to your holiday residence and try out a new recipe, or get the charcoal barbecue going in the garden. After a nice meal, treat yourself to some local wine and organise a movie night with the help of the big flat-screen TV that's equipped with Freeview. 

Layers Upon Layers

This apartment boasts an exceptional location in the heart of Rennes, on the square facing Saint Pierre Cathedral. Set on the third floor of a beautiful 19th century building complete with stained glass windows, the apartment is full of old world charm. High ceilings, wooden parquet floors, and ornate fireplaces characterise the space, which is bathed in natural light thanks to the tall windows. Each of the bedrooms is tastefully decorated, with comfortable beds and hotel quality sheets. There's a desk in the kids room in case you need to squeeze in some work. Throw open the curtains in the morning to admire the view of the Rennes rooftops and the cathedral, and enjoy coffee and croissants together at the dining table before heading out to explore. 

All of Rennes’ best attractions are within easy walking distance. Get a dose of culture at the Musée des Beaux-Arts before a restorative lunch at one of the local cafes. Spend the afternoon wandering the cobbled streets, admiring the historic timber-framed houses, or stroll along the canal. A day trip to Mont Sant Michel is unmissable – the mesmerising island topped with an abbey is an hour and fifteen minutes away by car. After a day of exploring, settle down in the sanctuary of your living room for a movie night together.

You, Me & The Sea

Step inside this bright apartment and you’ll be welcomed by fantastic sea views. There’s a balcony for your morning coffee and sunset drinks. Inside, the rooms set the tone for a relaxing stay with space to stretch out and spend quality time together. It’s worth noting the apartment is on the second floor with no lift access, but once inside you’ll find everything you could need to make it your own. It’s also in the perfect spot for leisurely beach days, while the nearest cafes, restaurants and shops are all within easy walking distance.


The Aurélie

Serene mornings tucking into breakfast on your private terrace and evenings watching the sunset over the sea will be part of your daily routine in this apartment. The seafront is right on your doorstep so you never have to go far to enjoy the breeze and immerse yourself in nature. As if that weren’t enough, the Quiberon Golf course is a fifteen-minute walk away and Sofitel Quiberon Thalassa Sea & Spa is even closer, so you can indulge in thalassotherapy treatments and massages, relax in the sauna and play a game of golf all in one day. Having said that, days at home making your favourite meals, sipping cocktails after dinner and binge-watching films are not to be neglected.

Turquoise Treat

With a view over the Anse de Doëlan, lazy afternoons can be spent watching the movements in the marina from the overlooking terrace of this home. Can you picture it? Sitting out on the deck with a glass of wine as the boats make their voyages? Almost as if counting sheep, you might find the activity calming and meditative, which probably has a little to do with the surroundings of this home. Tranquil and ripe with opportunity to visit the beaches around Le Pouldu, the woodland of Carnoët – with hiking trails in the famous GR 34 – there is plenty that will instil a soothing connection to the great outdoors. Even back home, you can open the bi-fold doors separating the living room from the terrace, and sit down to a gaping view of this corner of Brittany.  

Start your mornings in the kitchen, where you can top up on coffee before escaping onto the second terrace for a few contemplative moments. Sit out there until the rest of the group makes their way downstairs and grab hold of a cooking assistant. Work on a breakfast you can enjoy at the dining table before setting off for an explorative day.

With ample light filtering into the living room – from both the bi-fold doors and the skylights – bookworms will likely find this space their refuge. Sprawl out on the couch to enjoy the peace in quiet as you get lost in fictional worlds. 

Explore Le Pouldu and Lorient – during the summer months, both have a busy cultural calendar and you can join in the festivities before making it back home in time for the sunset. 

All Along the Marina

Once a home for horses, this former stable is perfectly placed for a visit to Rennes. Tucked nicely near Thabor Gardens, it allows you to be close to the city yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle that you can enjoy some much-needed quiet time whenever you retreat back home. 
 
With nods to its history through exposed beams and brickwork, this recently renovated home has been beautifully modernised, while retaining its charm. The sleek, modern kitchen is a delight to cook in, should you decide an evening at home is preferred over dining out. Climb the spiral staircase and you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms to choose from, both of which guarantee a blissful night’s sleep. A fairly neutral palette is broken up throughout the home with pops of colour, giving the whole space a calming, cosy vibe.

Our favourite part of this home is the terrace. Quite the sun trap during the day, it’s a peaceful place to retreat to as evening sets in. Grab yourself a bottle of fine French wine and settle down on the sofas with your loved ones. As night falls and a blanket of stars breaks out above, listen to the quiet chatter of your loved ones and feel yourself relax. This is where memories are made. 

Once Upon a Stable

In a peaceful hamlet in Cancale, nestled between the sea and the friendly town center lies this beautiful family home with enough space for everyone to stretch their legs. With a sizable garden and a beautiful indoor pool, you'll be able to make the most of this home whether rain or shine in the beautiful Cancale, known for its seafood delights and magnificent ports.

Spend your stay visiting beautiful Emerald Coast beaches, trying out Cancale's famous seafood, or experiencing one of several nearby ports with their own activities and beautiful nature to explore. The peaceful and practical location of this home lends itself perfectly to those wishing to go on their own excursions in the area, visiting Saint-Malo, the Mont St Michel, Port Mer and many others where you can make beautiful memories without worrying about finding yourself in the center of a tourist trap. And when you're all tired out you can return to this idyllic home and dine alfresco on the terrace at dusk, surrounded by the perfect mix of nature and modern comfort.

There’s a vivid kitchen for preparing dinners with the produce you picked up from Marché de Saint-Servan, and after a day perusing the promenade and touring Saint-Vincent Cathedral of Saint-Malo, you’ll look forward to a blissful night’s sleep in the soft and stylish bedrooms. 

Saint Malo’s pristine sand beaches are just a short stroll away – grab a flaky pastry from your local boulangerie before enjoying a morning swim. At the golden hour, sample a couple of locally-caught oysters and a glass of Muscadet overlooking the bobbing boats in the port.

Cobalt Marigold

This adorable home has everything to suggest it's tucked away in a French village, but it's in the heart of cosmopolitan Rennes. Even the enchanting courtyard will have you convinced you've stepped into a storybook world, not at the foot of St. Peter's Cathedral.

When stepping into this secret garden courtyard, we're practically waiting for Gaston and the townspeople to burst out of the windows and break into song. The sprawling foliage and quaint buildings provide a place where time stands still and you can break away from the thoughts of daily life. First impressions count, and this one will be lasting.

Whether you want to see the city on foot, by bike, by bus, or by metro, it's all readily available here. You're in the heart of Rennes' historical centre, away from the hustle and bustle but close to its charming cobbled streets and historical sights. 

Belle's Chaumière

If you're a fan of history, you'll love just how much history is in store for you at this fifteenth-century château. Surrounded by seven acres of private land, there are plenty of games to be played and trails to be explored. There's also a badminton set, billiards and a ping-pong table, which means the kids will be entertained for days. When you're ready to explore the surrounding scenery, the beaches at Plestin Les Greves are guaranteed to make you fall in love with the area.

La Rivière

A sharp contrast to the ancient city of Vannes, this modern apartment offers all of the home comforts needed for a desirable stay for two along the Gulf of Morbihan.
