This beautiful, thatched 19th-century cottage is as pretty as a picture. We love the gorgeous panoramic views of the river, sea, and the port from the south-facing terrace and garden. It's the perfect spot to watch the boats go by while tucking into some seafood washed down with a glass of local cider.

The interiors are just as charming as the exterior, with exposed stone walls, terracotta floors, vases of hydrangea and whitewashed beamed ceilings decorated with oars and fishing lines. Gather around the hearth with its deer antlers and wood burner when the Brittany weather turns chilly. There are more of those lovely river vistas from inside too. This place is a great retreat for family or friends all year round.

There's plenty to explore out and about – it's less than a minute's walk to the river, while Névez is just 4 kilometres away. The Port de Kerdruc is 270 metres, and there's a sailing school 5.7 kilometres, or if you fancy a day at the beach, Plage de Port Manec'h is just under 6 kilometres from this enchanting home.

We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed.

We can easily see why Layers Upon Layers was chosen as one of the best homes for breaks in France in 2016 — it's typical French countryside home with oodles of charm and plenty of amenities that will help you make lifelong memories. Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. Frequent some of the many local ice cream parlors, restaurants, or bars located just a stone's throw from the apartment for a taste of authentic Breton cuisine. Mosy to the nearest beach, just 5-minutes walk away. Or, for something a little more active, why not sign up for the well-regarded sailing school, surf classes, or hire a jet ski for an afternoon of wave-riding? Those with a penchant for golf are in luck too, with the 18-hole course at Pléneuf Val just 10-minutes away by car.

The Fisherman's Friend

Head up to the first floor of this home close to the Brittany coastline and you're treated to views of the sea and the narrow Sillon de Talbert stretching out through the water. Back down at ground level, it's not possible to catch a glimpse of this vista, but there's an innate sense of peace and tranquillity that often comes with being close to the sea.

During spells of warm weather, guests can while away the hours on the loungers and dining table on the terrace, or even play games on the large lawn. When you finally head inside, you're sure to be instantly struck by the minimalist interior. Large windows and glass doors invite in bountiful amounts of natural light and this is accentuated by the stark white walls and shiny wooden floors. The black kitchen is all clean lines and smooth surfaces, while the furnishings are subtle and unshowy to match.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, you can walk to Sillon de Talbert in eight minutes and Pors Rand beach in eleven. The island of Bréhat is well worth a visit for its pink granite and Mediterranean microclimate, and can be easily reached by boat.
