We particularly love the main bedroom with its four-poster bed and ocean vistas (there's also an office area here if you want to write a travel blog or catch up on work). In fact, there are sea views to enjoy from most rooms. The highlight, though, for us, is the private garden area around the apartment – you have a terrace and garden furniture for alfresco meals – it's a great space overlooking the Grande Plage, as well as the Pointe de la Garde.

Spend idyllic days on the Grande Plage on your doorstep or indulge in some water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding or take some catamaran lessons. When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, you don't have far to reach the seaside — indeed, Plage de Beaumer takes eight minutes to reach on foot. The famous Carnac stones — a collection of megalithic standing stones, tombs and burial mounds — are a similar amount of time away by car.

Carantec is a lovely part of France, and staying in this home makes it all the more lovely. This charming home can be found just a one-minute walk from Plage de la Grève Blanche, where you can stroll along the shore skimming stones and paddling in the shallows. 

When you return home from the beach, with the salt sea air in your hair, you might sit out in the garden to enjoy the last of the day’s sunshine. The courtyard is best early in the morning, when you can revel in the peace and quiet of this home. We love the terrace in the evenings – fire up the barbecue to grill locally caught fresh fish and pop open a bottle of wine. We could merrily while away hours in this way, spending time with loved ones and feeling the stresses of everyday life drift away on the sea breeze. 

Inside, you’ll find a tranquil haven. Neutral hues blend with cosy, soft furnishings and natural wood shades. The living and dining space is utterly serene, the perfect place to unwind. If the weather turns chilly, gather around the stone fireplace to play cards, or curl up with a good book from the library upstairs. 

This is a quiet, residential area, but it takes only fifteen minutes to walk into the village. Shop in the local stores and perhaps pop into a cafe for a slice of cake and a coffee. Walkers will love exploring Île de Callot at low tide. However you spend your time here in Carantec, you’ll be thrilled to have such a delightful home-from-home.

We can easily see why Layers Upon Layers was chosen as one of the best homes for breaks in France in 2016 — it's typical French countryside home with oodles of charm and plenty of amenities that will help you make lifelong memories. The interior has been furnished with gorgeous furniture that give it a rather retro-rustic atmosphere, and the host is keen on restoring period features, so that you can immerse yourself into the spirit of rural France. Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. When you've had your fill of sights for the day, return to your holiday residence and try out a new recipe, or get the charcoal barbecue going in the garden. After a nice meal, treat yourself to some local wine and organise a movie night with the help of the big flat-screen TV that's equipped with Freeview.
