Hop on the train, and you can be at the Eiffel Tower in just fifteen minutes - or grab a coffee to go and take an amble along the Seine, you'll be at the iron lady in fifty minutes flat. With many companies headquartered here and Porte de Versailles Expo close by, it's also a popular destination for business travellers. Back at the apartment, we're fans of the crisp, white interiors and light-filled bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. But it's outside on the expansive terrace that we think you'll be spending a lot of your time. Located on the tenth floor, you'll have some impressive views to return home to after days gallivanting about the city.

If you're fond of the work produced during the impressionist movement, a visit to Pontoise is essential, as a lot of the most prominent artists chose to base themselves in this picturesque corner of France. However, it's fair to say that some of the homes have progressed a little since Pissaro and Cézanne were plying their trade in the area – this address is a prime example.

There's something effortlessly stylish about the interior, dominated as it is by stark white walls, shiny tiling and chic furnishings. Add into the mix a kitchen designed with minimalist principles in mind and rows of tall windows that let in the amount of natural light that even the most demanding of landscape painters would be happy with, and you've got a home that feels fresh and contemporary.

To top it all off, guests are treated to a landscaped garden complete with flowerbeds and a table on which to enjoy feasts fresh off the barbecue as the sun goes down. If you need to buy ingredients, the centre of Pontoise takes around a quarter of an hour to reach on foot and also offers galleries and a cathedral. Paris is only an hour away on the train, too.

This chateau in Normandy is bursting with old-world charm. Built by the original owner in the 19th century as a wedding present for his wife, it has been lovingly restored in recent years. While historic features like the elegant façade, grand rooms and antique French floor tiles have been preserved, the basement has been converted into a haven for fun and relaxation. The curved brick rooms are now home to a cinema room, a pool table, and a fitness suite. Meanwhile upstairs retains its 19th-century splendour through antique furniture, original fireplaces, and oak panelled walls. 

Set within an 18-hectare estate, there are beautiful spots to while away the days. Relax on the lawn with a book or sip calvados on the charming château terrace. On sunny days, whip up lunch on the barbecue while the children have fun in the play area. There are over 300 apple and pear trees in the fruit orchard, and beautiful walking trails through the estate’s woodland, with sprawling views of Normandy countryside, which you can explore on foot or on the bikes at the house. 

The area is surrounded by picturesque villages and scenery. The historic town of Gournay-en-Bray is a five-minute drive away, where you can pick up local produce at the twice-weekly market for a picnic. The Forêt de Lyons can be reached in twenty minutes by car, where you can practise a range of outdoor adventures, or simply walk through the winding woodland trails.

This Norman farmhouse has been impeccably renovated to create a private and contemporary oasis. The quaint timbered exterior has been preserved, while the inside is tastefully designed to blend rustic with modern. Exposed brickwork, natural wooden floors and stone walls characterise each room, while the sleek, high-spec kitchen and modern bathroom with ambient lighting add an updated twist. The house is set on 1.7 acres of land, meaning you’ll have plenty of privacy. You're surrounded by beauty here –wander through the pretty landscaped gardens and head down one of the winding paths to admire the bucolic scenery.  

The large heated 14x4m pool means you can enjoy year-round fun, and there’s an outdoor shower to rinse off in before curling up on a deck chair. The kids will have endless fun running around in the gardens, playing ping pong, and making use of the two bikes. On rainy days they can retreat to the games room, where there’s plenty of board games. 

You are well placed to explore all the delights of the Pays d’Auge region – the village of Honfleur is a fifteen-minute drive away, with its picture-perfect harbour and expansive sandy beach. For the daily shop, there’s a small village near the house which is reachable on foot. On Tuesday mornings drive seven minutes to the farmers’ market in Beuzeville, where you can pick up some local produce and enjoy an alfresco lunch back at home.

The house is situated on the site of a medieval building dating back to the 11th century and was completed on the eve of the French Revolution. With 350 acres of land, along with the main house, an orangerie, and a farm, there's plenty of space to roam on this sprawling estate. Challenge your friends to a round of pool in the games room, sip wine in the sunny garden, or settle down with a good book in the library – however you want to spend your days, this home can cater to your every desire. And, when evening rolls around, you can serve up a delicious meal in the formal dining room,  created just for you by a private chef using local ingredients. 

From here, you can wander into the village of Le Merlerault in just ten minutes to pick up fresh produce at the weekly market or taste some Normandy cider at the wine cellar. A fifteen-minute drive will bring you to the city of Seés, with its Gothic cathedral, and a twenty-five-minute drive will take you to the Parc Naturel Régional du Perche, where you can hike through the picturesque parkland.

We can see why this French country estate has been featured in a raft of interior design magazines. Inspired by mid-century modern architects, the layout, furnishings and finishes are not what you necessarily expect from these traditional buildings, but they complement them perfectly. There’s a main house and an attached barn, as well as two independent guest suites (one also has a sauna). Step into the gardens and you’ll find a wood-fired Nordic bath and a pétanque court. There’s also a greenhouse growing seasonal crops and an outdoor kitchen with a wood-fired pizza oven. Set in a small village within the Vexin Nature Reserve and just an hour from Paris, you’ll have plenty to see and do during your stay.
