We love this charming single-level holiday home because it encompasses the best of both worlds. Though it is situated near Nancy's centre, allowing guests to make the most of the varied shopping, dining, and cultural offerings therein, it also feels tranquil and secluded – due in part to the small wooded area at the rear of the property. There you will also find a seating area perfect for long summer evenings spent in the company of friends and family. 

While the home's exteriors have a traditional French aesthetic typical of the Alsace-Lorraine area, step inside and you'll find cool and versatile interiors – think funky furniture, design-forward wallpaper, and quirky artwork adorning the walls. One of our favourite features has got to be the sleek shower rooms. Finished in a chic floor-to-ceiling grey marble, lending the room an upscale if somewhat trendy industrial feel, this space is perfect for a bit of pampering before a day – or an evening – spent exploring the highlights of Nancy.

From the Palais Ducal with its archetypal fairytale vibes to the beautifully ornate Basilique Saint-Epvre or the popular Parc de la Pépinière and its fragrant rose garden, not to mention the wealth of cultural attractions including the National Opera and the Fine Arts Museum, there is so much to fall in love with in and around the historic centre of this city. You can never go wrong if you book a whole chateau, which is why Sezanne Pond is such a lovely place to gather all your loved ones. Among the many services provided by the lovely host team, the fact that you can get an English-speaking guide to take you around is one of our favourites, but we can't say that we didn't love the fact that we booked maid service and released even more time in our day to do absolutely nothing. As this home used to be a retirement home back int the day, it has a lift for the luggage, which is another one of the small details that Sezanne Pond does absolutely right. Of course you get the standard luxuries — a large private pool, antique furniture fit for nobility, huge gardens where you can walk and reflect, a salon with a grand piano and a pool table, lots if spots to relax and read, and more. Within a few minutes' drive, rustic towns await, and we hope you take some time to explore this beautifully historic landscape and bring some local wine back to your chateau.

There's something quietly beautiful about this home that sits just four hundred metres from Lake Gérardmer – it's something to do with the handsome granite exterior, large windows and timber-framed rooftop that all combine to make for a certain rustic charm.

By comparison, the interior is a little more contemporary in style, with stark white walls adorned with artwork, a minimalist kitchen and furnishings that look to the Nordic nations for influence. There are a few period features as well, including stained glass windows, a beech bannister and the fireplace, which is sadly only decorative.

It's fair to say, however, that if you're venturing to Gérardmer, you're hoping to spend as much time out in the Alpine air as possible. Not only does the home have a garden complete with seating for enjoying mild patches, but there's a whole host of excursions to try locally. There's a free shuttle bus to take you to the lifts up to the La Mauselaine ski area, but if you're here during the warmer months, days full of hiking and lake swimming await.

The two other smaller resorts of Lispach with six runs, and Brabant, offering three, also welcome visitors during the season. For cross-country skiing, the Lispach Nordic Area boasts 50 kilometres of runs for all abilities, as well as snowshoeing circuits, an international biathlon stadium, a floodlit track, sledging slopes, and an ice rink.

With all that action and adventure on offer, it's just as well that at the end of a day spent making unforgettable memories, you can retreat to the comfort and serenity of your apartment. This modern home is located in Westhalten, in the Alsace region of northeast France. We think it's great for families and friend groups, and it's ideal for those looking for a tranquil getaway. Two kitchens, dining rooms, and living areas mean plenty of space – at full capacity though, four guests will sleep on sofa beds, so if you're planning on spending a lot of time indoors things might end up feeling a little crowded. The location of this home lends itself well to exploring the local area by car, including the Alsace towns of Rouffach and Guebwiller.

Inside you'll find cosy furnishings to make you feel right at home and the sloped bedroom ceilings only complete the storybook feel. A babbling brook flows right outside the home, the perfect spot to dip your feet in and read a book. Just a short stroll from the centre of picturesque Hofstetten, you can wander into the village to pick up your morning pastries or sample the local cuisine at the handful of nearby restaurants. It's the perfect jumping off point to explore the beautiful Black Forest region.

It’s also a pine-covered mountain region in southwest Germany where you’ll find this inviting bungalow, with its beamed ceilings and sloping roof. There’s a delicious warmth to the home, from the dark kitchen units to the cinnamon-sweet feature wall and coffee-coloured furnishings. Glass sliding doors open out onto the garden, where you can really appreciate the peaceful location, surrounded by fields. Spend sunny days barbecuing out here and colder evenings with a blanket on your lap and a hot cup of cocoa in hand. Just a few minutes drive to the banks of the Rhein, as well as a swimming lake, you're in luck if you like the water as much as the forests.

Located in the middle of the Burgundy countryside, there's been a building on this site for around two centuries, something you might be able to tell from the wooden beams, flagstone flooring and thick stone walls. However, it's no longer a humble barn, but a luxurious French getaway.

In the intervening two hundred years, plenty has been added to aid in this transformation. Outside, the most notable change has been the building of a heated swimming pool in the middle of the lush grounds and even more recently — in 2021, in fact — a walled garden has been constructed holding over twenty types of herbs and soft fruits. If you time your visit just right, you might be able to pick cherries and grapes straight off the branch.

When the weather's being kind, there's everything from a boules court and swing to a barbecue on the terrace with outdoor speakers to enjoy. If, however, the clouds are ominously grey, you can keep yourselves occupied on the billiards table or home cinema setup instead.

The nearest village is only twenty-five minutes away on foot and offers all the charming bakeries, charcuteries and markets you could want. As well as that, the unspoilt Morvan Regional Nature Park that surrounds the address means the local area is perfect for long walks or cycle rides. If that sounds too tame, the Magny Cours circuit — a French Grand Prix venue — is only forty minutes' drive away.

Resting quietly in the picturesque village of Gouaix, you’ll find this charming townhouse. If you’re itching to get outdoors, the nearby National Nature Reserve of La Bassée is a must-see, where an abundance of fauna and flora await. For those who love a little history, a visit to the mediaeval city of Provins, a Unesco World Heritage Site, promises a memorable day out. Further afield, Paris is only an hour away, should you fancy a visit to the city of love. 

Closer to home, there are some fantastic hikes from and near Gouaix. After expending some energy, return to your cosy retreat, uncork a bottle of fabulous French wine, and relax with loved ones as you reminisce over the day.

This twelfth-century chateau in the Belgian countryside is quite simply enormous. Not only does it sit within ten hectares of pretty private parkland, but it can also accommodate a whopping thirty-five guests across the building and its two wings.

With all of this size to play around with, the host has ensured that every guest will find something that will appeal to them. The parquet flooring, original panelling, parquet flooring and open fireplaces mean that the living rooms are wonderful spots to do nothing more but relax, while the garden, courtyards and dining terrace also offer somewhere equally pleasant to sit and enjoy the sunshine.

In addition to this, you'll find a recently built Finnish sauna in the home, plus a games room complete with a bar and billiards tables.
