Open up the doors off of the kitchen as you fire off some project notes at the elegant table before enjoying a flaky croissant in the private courtyard. This is a tranquil space, with a plump sofa for sharing a glass or two of locally-produced Gamay and a charming dining table for enjoying the produce you picked up from the local market. You’ll find the ambient lights in the bedroom set the tone for page-turning and restful slumbers.  

When you’re ready to explore, the city’s cultural and culinary highlights are all within walking distance. From ambling the gardens of Parc de la Pépinière to dining along the Meurthe riverbanks during the golden hour, you’re in an idyllic setting to experience the city.

Le Jardin de Nancy

When in Alsace, a trip to Strasbourg is an absolute must. And with this historic apartment as your base, you'll have the city at your fingertips. While the building dates back to 1768, its modern interiors present a laid-back space to chill out between sightseeing in the city. 

Whether you're sprawling across the couch with a glass of Alsatian wine in hand or rustling up some French delicacies in the kitchen, it's easy to feel at home here. However, we're almost certain you'll be keen to sample local culinary delights at the many fabulous restaurants and eateries scattered around the city. If you're here during the winter, of course, the German markets will leave you awe-inspired and itching to come back during the festive period year after year. 

When in Alsace 

Perch over the Juliet balcony of this modern Strasbourg home with a glass of wine as you look out across the atmospheric streets below. Inside, it's a bright and practical pad, with natural light streaming in through the original windows. While the building dates back to 1768, the apartment's chic furnishings and cool blue colour palette combine to create a contemporary living space with comfort and style in mind. 

Days begin by warming up French pastries in your marble kitchen, before sitting down for breakfast at the dining table. When you're refuelled and ready to explore, the delights of this enchanting city sit right on your doorstep. You'll find the Rhine River twisting and turning between the historic buildings and colourful houses at the heart of it all, while plenty of fabulous restaurants and eateries line the cobbles. And, if you're visiting during the winter period, head to the Place des Halles, where a sprinkling of German markets and festive stools await. 

Secrets in Strasbourg

Nestled away in the peaceful village of Mesbrecourt-Richecourt, there are parts of this address that date back to 1670. There are other aspects, however, that are no more than a few years old thanks to a recent renovation. Together, this heritage and modernity combine to make for a home that's full of character.

One thing that's immediately noticeable is the bountiful amount of natural light the interior enjoys from the tall windows and glass doors, and this asset is put to especially good use in the stark white kitchen and dining room. In the neighbouring lounge, there's a loft-like feel to the design thanks to the exposed brickwork and metal staircase sourced from an old sugar factory.

We've done very well to get this far without mentioning the wonderful outdoor space here. On summer afternoons, there's plenty of seating out in the garden and games equipment to make the most of the heat, while the south-west-facing perspective means that it's a prime spot for catching the sunset, too.

In the local village, there's a shop and cafe that are reachable on foot, as well as walking and cycling routes through the north French countryside to embark upon. A little further afield, the medieval city of Laon is only 24km away and has more than enough historic architecture to appeal to history buffs.

Nothing Tastes as Sweet

While the building dates back to 1768, this apartment in charming Strasbourg places modern comfort at the forefront. Located in Grande Île, you'll have the city's atmospheric streets and celebrated attractions right on your doorstep, including the Cathédrale Notre-Dame, the romantic Rhine River and the main shopping district of Place des Halles – this place comes alive during the festive period with German markets lining the squares.

Start your morning with a coffee as you perch on the living room's Juliet balcony, watching the locals go about their day. Inside, it's a bright and open space dressed in calming blue tones and stylish artwork that create a peaceful place to return after a busy day of walking. Flop down on the sofa with a glass of wine or rustle up French classics in the marble kitchen for a laidback dinner at home – that's if you're not out sampling the culinary delights at the many gorgeous restaurants and pubs, just footsteps from your apartment. 

French Fancy

Back at home, it's a bright and stylish affair where minimalist design meets contemporary furnishings in an open-plan space that you can quickly make your own. With its rolling hills, medieval cities and spectacular scenery, the region of Aisne makes the perfect setting for an idyllic stay in the French countryside. And sitting in the peaceful village of Bucy-le-Long, this home has all the elements required for a restorative retreat – one that will ensure you’re left feeling relaxed from the moment of arrival. 

From the soft lighting and calm palette of colours to the snug bedrooms and laid-back terrace, every detail has been considered to enrich your stay with comfort and ease. So whether you’re enjoying some light-hearted family fun in the games room (equipped with table tennis, darts and books), relaxing in the living room or sipping drinks in the fresh air, it’s easy to settle in and make this space your own. 

Days can be spent hiking or cycling through the surrounding countryside, admiring the Gothic architecture in nearby Soissons (just a short drive away) or strolling through the spectacular hilltop city of Laon – less than a thirty-minute drive away. 

Fleur de Pays

Located in the Alsace valley, this apartment is in a great spot to explore the local area. Though the home lacks a bit of thoughtful design, it’s a good base for a couple and has everything needed for a comfortable stay, such as a fully-equipped kitchen and washing facilities. Guests can also get competitive with a game of ping-pong in the shared space on the ground floor. The picturesque town of Colmar is just a short drive away or head to a nearby vineyard to sample some famous Alsace Rieslings. 

Ivy Leaf

In the quaint town of Wintzenheim, close to Colmar lies this charming little apartment. Situated on the first floor of a chalet, you'll have access to the garden with barbecue and outdoor furniture, as well as your own private balcony space to look out at the surrounding town. You won't have a separate living area, but you can still cosy up together in the seating area in the second bedroom, and gather around the dining table for some delicious comfort food prepared in the fully-equipped kitchen.

This little apartment is off the beaten track, perfectly located to take advantage of the nearby shops, cycle routes, forest paths and historical landmarks. Staying in this quiet residential area means you won't have to deal with floods of tourists and have a more authentic experience of France, while still being close enough to the excitement that you're not missing out.

Sapphire & Oak Leaves

So constant is this home’s beauty, you can visit summer or winter and be bowled over by the views on offer from the balcony. In winter, when the Vosges Massif is capped in white and the snow lies in wait at the La Bresse-Hohneck ski resort, you can wrap up warm and enjoy a steaming cup of cacao as you gaze out over the blanketed town below. And it’s even more beautiful at sunset, when the orange glow of lights bathes it all in a fairytale glow. Although some of the winter wonderland atmosphere might evaporate as the warmer weather starts to melt the snow, the vibrant green beauty it leaves in its wake is still a sight to behold. 

When you’re not dining alfresco simply to get another look at that view, you can cosy up in the small living room to spend family movie night together, or opt for a bit of quiet time as you get in bed early with a good romance novel. 

With a free shuttle to and from La Bresse-Hohneck, you can get on the piste as early as you’d like and practice on the slopes until your limbs are in need of a hot shower. After, when you’ve sufficiently warmed up, you can have a après-ski drink on the balcony before switching on the fondue machine for a night of cheesy goodness around the dining table. 

Town centre is only a ten minute walk away, so it’s easy to stock up on whatever you need at the bakery, pharmacy, and shop.

Firefly Peak

With scenic views of the Gérardmer mountains, this beautiful chalet in the heart of HIgh Vosges sits comfortably between peaks, lakes, and forests, which really makes it the ideal place to visit when you’re looking to reestablish your connection to nature whilst simultaneously recharging your batteries. Find refuge on the terrace where you can make yourself comfortable in the porch swing with a steaming mug of cacao and uninterrupted views to admire. 

Enjoy a quick breakfast around the kitchen island before setting off to La Mauselaine for a morning on the slopes. There’s a free shuttle bus available to and from the resort, departing from Hotel La Route Verte – minutes away on foot – so go ahead and test your mettle on the piste. Afterwards, get home with pastries from the nearby bakery, or make your own crepes, take a luxurious soak in the tub and opt for a relaxing evening on the couch.

Visit the market on Thursday and Saturday mornings, barbecue lunch, ski and hike, explore the area and take plenty of family photos, sit around the picnic bench with drinks and nibbles, but most importantly, let the tranquillity of the space rejuvenate and relax you.

Mountain Refuge

Located in Chamouille, this is a large and child-friendly resort that offers a variety of shared amenities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, and children's playgrounds. The resort also has a reception, restaurant, bar, sauna, massage, steam room, hydro massage bath (all extra), bowling, table tennis (all extra), playroom, trampoline, shopping facilities, boutique and bicycle rental. Guests can enjoy fishing with a permit. The car-free holiday complex is located 16 km from the center of Laon and 40 km from the center of Reims. The home is a beautiful and cozy 3-room house that is spread over 2 levels. It features an open kitchen with modern appliances and dining table, a living/dining room with an open-hearth fireplace and dining table. There is also a terrace to relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake. The house includes amenities such as WiFi internet access and reserved parking for one car. Up to two pets are allowed in the non-smoking house.
