Whizz along the 160 kilometres of linked slopes before finding a bar in the heart of town for a well-deserved glass of wine. If you’re keen to try something a little different, explore the surrounding winter walking trails or take the ten-minute drive into the traditional Aranese village of Arties.

Located right near where the border separates Spain from France, this rough-stone home stands tall in all its rustic charm – and if you think the facade is attractive, just wait until you take a look inside. Continuing on with the mix of natural stone and timber, this modernised living space exemplifies comfort with a wood-burning stove, soft lighting, and a sofa you can sink into. Curl up here after you’ve kindled a fire and let time be the last thing on your mind as you finally get to the book of poetry you’ve been meaning to read for the longest time. The area, as you’ll be able to determine from the view, is inescapably beautiful and you can admire some of the natural wonders by hiking the trails in the area. Baqueira Beret, the nearest ski lift, is just over 18 miles away and Luchon Golf Course is just under 6 miles.

The Mountain Dream

There's something truly magical about this home's location in the listed Occitane village of Laurac. As well as being so isolated as to bring a pleasing sense of tranquillity, the hilltop position means that there are lovely views of verdant countryside from the terraces.

Speaking of which, the address benefits from two such standout outdoor spaces. On the second floor, glass doors open out to an alfresco dining area complete with a barbecue and a glorious panorama, while back down at the ground and thirty metres' walk from the home, there's a secret garden with a swimming pool surrounded by vegetation.

It's plain to see that a big chunk of your time here is going to be spent out in the open air, but you'll also be happy to hear that the interior doesn't disappoint when you finally retreat indoors. There's a rustic feel to the design, with large ceiling beams sitting above a traditional fireplace and smart wooden floors. Timber Slopes

This apartment housed in an old stone building of Baqueira is typical of the charming Val d’Aran aesthetic on the outside. Slate-grey and with wooden shutters it feels like a traditional mountain retreat and is just 360 metres from the gondola up to the slopes of Baqueira Beret resort. An equipment locker by the gondola is included, so you can boot up when you get there.

Inside, wooden sloped ceilings create a traditional chalet feel and the brickwork fireplace in the living room adds a touch of cabin cosiness.
