The Picpoul is regularly recognised as one of the top ten wines in the Languedoc – and the château itself deserves a few awards. It’s beautifully renovated, with sleek modern furniture sitting happily against a backdrop of original stone. Take a dip in the pool, sip a cocktail by the grand piano. Heck, you might even want to get hitched in the chapel. The secluded home is four kilometres from the nearest town of Montagnac, and there are more than enough wineries dotted around the countryside – all the way to the Med.

A typical day here involves sipping wines at the local vineyards followed by visits to quaint boutiques, morning markets and galleries of Pézenas. If you can ever get enough of the festivities and street music of the village, there's a whole different world to explore. While the nearby beaches of Cap d’Agade and Marseillan Plage have gorgeous coastlines lined with delicious sea-food haunts, the rivers are a hot-bed for swimming, fishing, biking and water-sports. We don't debate that it can take up all your summer to simply scratch the surface of Languedoc. However, it would be a missed opportunity to not include a day trip to the walled city of Carcassone while you're here.

Having undergone a recent renovation, the owners have taken great care to retain the house's historic charm whilst adding modern amenities creating a warm and welcoming holiday home. Whether travelling as an extended family or with a group of friends, The property's space is ideal for sociable living with a charming and well-equipped kitchen and dining area opening out to the terrace for al-fresco dining and relaxation overlooking the pool. That said, there is always somewhere to escape to whether you seek a little solitude in the music room, play table tennis in the former wine store or watch TV in one of the two living rooms. The enclosed garden features your very own swimming pool with a plage-style entrance ideal for youngsters to splash around in. Enjoy al-fresco feasts by the barbecue, savouring some of the delicious produce found at local markets (including nearby Pézenas' famous Saturday morning market which dates back to the 14th century). On Friday evenings in the height of the summer the town comes alive with live music, street food and lots of good local wine during 'Les Estivales'.Languedoc's fine coastline is easily reached with Marseillan Plage and the old town of Sète within half an hour by car whilst other highlights of this region include wine villages, vineyards, garrigue perfect for hiking as well as the bustling town of Béziers. Venture a little further afield to visit the picture-perfect pilgrimage stop, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, or spend the day exploring the magnificent citadel of Carcassonne, both classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

We’re particularly taken by the mosaic tiling in the walk-in shower and the beautiful views glimpsed from almost every room. We think it's a great choice for families and friend groups – it's bursting with amenities, including all-terrain bikes, a pétanque court, a heated infinity pool, and a gym and sauna. The dedicated office has a double sofa bed for two guests, and there are two EV chargers here for added convenience. We do recommend hiring a car here to make the most of your stay, whether it's exploring Montpellier or the village of Montferrier-sur-Lez, or spending a day at the beach.

With its secluded, heated pool, this elegant apartment housed in a 16th-century building in Uzès is the perfect French retreat. This charming restored home is full of character, from the remarkable circular stone staircase and wooden ceiling beams to the old stone floors. We love the gracious living room with its views over the fig and bamboo trees, the pool and the town's rooftops. There's a wood-burning stove, too, for cosy nights when the weather turns chilly and a desk for catching up on work as well. 

This place is ideal for a couple or family with two children. The icing on the cake here is the incredible hospitality from your lovely hosts. They can arrange all sorts of activities for you to do, including walking tours and cookery classes. 

When you're ready to explore the area, take a stroll around the town and admire the wonderful architecture or head to its renowned weekly market, then take a seat at one of its traditional restaurants. Further afield, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pont du Gard, under a twenty-minute drive away, or discover historic Nîmes, around thirty minutes in the car.

If you're looking for a French villa with true character, Here Comes The Sun is a great option. With typical rustic features that include exposed brick and beam contrasting the modern features, this home is a great place to help you relax and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings. Wake up with a nice cup of coffee on the balcony, then pick up your local delivery of baked goods that can be brought right to your front door, then set up a little breakfast for the rest. If you're feeling rather adventurous, hike all the way to Pont du Gard or take the car if you want see as much as you can in a single day. When you're back, go for a relaxing swim in the pool and enjoy a nice glass of locally produced wine, then maybe visit the nearby town of Uzès and explore the local restaurants. The wider area is filled with stunning gold courses and plenty of activities, but there's absolutely no rule that says you can't just stay in your superbly cosy holiday residence and curl up with a good book.

Back inside, the stunning open-plan kitchen-living area ensures a sociable stay for the whole group to enjoy together. The kitchen in particular will excite guests who are fond of cooking as the large central island makes it perfect for group cooking sessions. Why not book for a private chef to come and give you French cooking lessons? You'll also find that the local area allows guests to experience French culture at its finest. Mornings are for market visits here, so head on down into the local village, just a three-minute walk away where you'll find a lady named Patricia who sells fresh fruit and vegetables every Monday and Wednesday morning in the central square, Place de la Fontaine. Better still, visit on a Saturday as this is the main market day for the villagers to stock up on fresh meat, fish, cheese, truffles, wine and flowers. It's safe to say that such a warm and friendly atmosphere is hard to come by in France, if you're not in a rural village like this one.
