Fleur De Lis is a holiday fit for even the most discerning guests, starting with a lavish tree-lined driveway that will transport you straight to the seventeenth century. As you travel, you might notice a rather large pool (all yours) where you can practise your backstroke, work on your tan, or walk right past it on your morning stroll across the estate. Depending on how you feel, you can take your meals in the regal dining room, which will involve dressing up appropriately, or you can go the informal route, dining alfresco in the gardens. There are simply so many things to do in this home, from admiring the antiques, playing tennis in the courts, watching period dramas in the appropriate setting, or even going down to the nearby sandy beach. For day trips, we recommend that you head off to see Mont St Michel, which is easily accessible via the motorway, as is the Bayeux Tapestry.

A stone's throw from the sandy beaches of Cancale, in the picture-pretty bay of Port Mer, this charming home offers the very best of coastal living. If you want to see the ocean up close, the beach is less than 1km away – take a walk down to the golden sands to discover what the famous Emerald Coast has to offer. When you're feeling peckish, Cancale oysters are a must-try. Head to one of the local restaurants or buy some from the Mont Saint-Michel oyster market and take them home to prepare yourself. We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed. 

When darkness falls, head inside to cuddle up on the sumptuous sofa to watch a movie. If you're travelling with little ones, the mezzanine level dens are the perfect place for a bedtime story to make sure they settle in for a good night's sleep.

Surprisingly open and bright, we particularly love the living space with its sea view window. The kitchen is perfectly well-equipped for cooking light meals at home but it's only a five-minute walk to the town centre with its bakeries, restaurants and bars (it's known for its oysters, by the way). Keen walkers will be able to explore the local hiking trails and there are all sorts of water sports on offer nearby too.

Even though this large home sits in the middle of a golf course in rural Brittany, there's plenty to keep guests occupied even if they're not keen followers of the sport.

Take the wonderful wellness space, for example. Surrounded by large windows that look out to the peaceful grounds, there's both a heated swimming pool and a Jacuzzi to recline in once you've done a length or two. If that sounds a little too sedate, there's a huge range of games, from foosball and ping-pong to a petanque court and an arcade machine on which you'll find over 1500 video games. We're not saying you'll be praying for rainy days, but they won't be the catastrophe they might be at other addresses.

At the same time, the huge garden offers lots of space and equipment for enjoying spells of sunny weather. You can embrace a French tradition on the petanque court, bounce about on the trampoline or do nothing more strenuous than read on the terrace – perhaps with dinner cooking away on the barbecue in the background.

Thanks to its on-point location, you can enjoy scenic beach walks, rollerblading or cycling on the seawall. There's also a surf school just 200 metres away, and if actively participating in watersports isn't your thing, the beach's kitesurfers, windsurfers or surfers will guarantee an excellent show. Meanwhile, a mini-market and the many nearby restaurants offer an endless opportunity to sample the local Brittany delicacies and fresh seafood in Saint-Malo.

The sleek, modern kitchen is a delight to cook in, should you decide an evening at home is preferred over dining out. While it's easy to spend a lot of time in this calming cottage, it's only right to explore when you're in such a fantastic location. Whether you want to see the city on foot, by bike, by bus, or by metro, it's all readily available here. Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. When you've had your fill of sights for the day, return to your holiday residence and try out a new recipe, or get the charcoal barbecue going in the garden. After a nice meal, treat yourself to some local wine and organise a movie night with the help of the big flat-screen TV that's equipped with Freeview.

If you’re seeking a scenic spot for a group coastal getaway in Normandy, it’s time to stop scrolling. This charming home is perfect for up to fourteen people, with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy some quiet time. We love the open-plan living, dining and kitchen area – just the ticket for gathering together as you rustle up some French cuisine. But the cherry on the cake? It has to be the location. A mere 150-metre stroll takes you to Deauville beach, where sun, sea and sand await. 

Spirit of Normandy

Located in a former hotel, this apartment has breathtaking sea views. We particularly love the main bedroom with its four-poster bed and ocean vistas (there's also an office area here if you want to write a travel blog or catch up on work). In fact, there are sea views to enjoy from most rooms. The highlight, though, for us, is the private garden area around the apartment – you have a terrace and garden furniture for alfresco meals – it's a great space overlooking the Grande Plage, as well as the Pointe de la Garde.

Spend idyllic days on the Grande Plage on your doorstep or indulge in some water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding or take some catamaran lessons. If you fancy exploring further afield, then Cape Fréhel, to the west, is perfect for bird watchers, or the nearby charming resort of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has a small port and coastal paths.


Sea, Sand & Good Times

This slice of tropical modernity comes as quite a surprise in a town known for its medieval ramparts and cobbled streets. A timber cabin-style home that wouldn't look out of place in the world's most exotic corners, it's even set in a private garden that's inspired by the jungle. With three bedrooms and a family-friendly open layout, it's stylish, spacious and smart.

Inside, the wood floors and white walls are calm and neutral, with comfy furnishings and lots of house plants. There's a sleek contemporary kitchen with an island where you can sit on the stools and chat as someone rustles up dinner, and both an indoor and an outdoor dining table.

And it's outside where we think you'll be spending most of your time if you're here in the summer months. Step out of your sliding doors and straight onto the deck, partly shaded with a sail over the comfy loungers. And, you guessed it, this place also comes with a private, heated pool. 

Just hanging out here is pretty perfect in our opinion but when you want to head out and explore, the town is less than half an hour away on foot or a five-minute drive. Book a nearby boat trip, visit St Malo or discover some of the sandy beaches on the coast.
