This chateau in Normandy is bursting with old-world charm. Built by the original owner in the 19th century as a wedding present for his wife, it has been lovingly restored in recent years. While historic features like the elegant façade, grand rooms and antique French floor tiles have been preserved, the basement has been converted into a haven for fun and relaxation. The curved brick rooms are now home to a cinema room, a pool table, and a fitness suite. Meanwhile upstairs retains its 19th-century splendour through antique furniture, original fireplaces, and oak panelled walls. 

Set within an 18-hectare estate, there are beautiful spots to while away the days. Relax on the lawn with a book or sip calvados on the charming château terrace. On sunny days, whip up lunch on the barbecue while the children have fun in the play area. There are over 300 apple and pear trees in the fruit orchard, and beautiful walking trails through the estate’s woodland, with sprawling views of Normandy countryside, which you can explore on foot or on the bikes at the house. 

The area is surrounded by picturesque villages and scenery. The historic town of Gournay-en-Bray is a five-minute drive away, where you can pick up local produce at the twice-weekly market for a picnic. The Forêt de Lyons can be reached in twenty minutes by car, where you can practise a range of outdoor adventures, or simply walk through the winding woodland trails.

On rainy days they can retreat to the games room, where there’s plenty of board games. 

You are well placed to explore all the delights of the Pays d’Auge region – the village of Honfleur is a fifteen-minute drive away, with its picture-perfect harbour and expansive sandy beach. For the daily shop, there’s a small village near the house which is reachable on foot. On Tuesday mornings drive seven minutes to the farmers’ market in Beuzeville, where you can pick up some local produce and enjoy an alfresco lunch back at home.

Taken in and of itself, this apartment in Saint-Aubin-sur-Meris is perfectly pleasant. The stark white walls and wood floors feel smart and contemporary, while the flashes of blue and some eye-catching accoutrements – the lighting fixtures and funky stools, to single out a couple – stop it from feeling too anonymous.

However, it's the home's outdoor space and excellent location that really distinguishes it from competitors. Along with two other apartments in the building, guests share a pretty garden bordered by flowerbeds and this looks out to the town's beach, which sits just across the street.

As well as offering opportunities for watersports and relaxation, the beaches of Saint-Aubin-sur-Meris hold significance for the pivotal role that the region played during D-Day. The city of Caen is only half an hour away in the car and offers a wealth of attractions, including William the Conqueror's castle and a selection of contemporary galleries.

A mere 150-metre stroll takes you to Deauville beach, where sun, sea and sand await.

When nothing but an actual French chateau will do Cosmopolitan Castle comes to the rescue. This lavish home has hosted a few famous faces, from Aga Khan and the Dalai Lama, and now you. With fourteen bedrooms that can accommodate up to twenty-eight guests, this is a perfect place to accommodate a large family gathering or a wedding party, but you can also use it as a a luxurious base to explore Normandy. Places to see theatre easily accessible from here include the Landing Beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry and Monet's Garden — but there's so much to see around here that we'd rather just let you get on with it. As you travel, you might notice a rather large pool (all yours) where you can practise your backstroke, work on your tan, or walk right past it on your morning stroll across the estate. Depending on how you feel, you can take your meals in the regal dining room, which will involve dressing up appropriately, or you can go the informal route, dining alfresco in the gardens. There are simply so many things to do in this home, from admiring the antiques, playing tennis in the courts, watching period dramas in the appropriate setting, or even going down to the nearby sandy beach. For day trips, we recommend that you head off to see Mont St Michel, which is easily accessible via the motorway, as is the Bayeux Tapestry.

This traditional stone home has a surprise in store. Far from the old world vibe you may be expecting, inside it's modern and chic – and perfectly equipped for your stay on the Normandy coast. On fine days, enjoy breakfast in the courtyard, then unwind on a sun lounger with your holiday read. On cooler days, there's always the cosy conservatory to retreat to. Just don't get too comfortable – there's plenty to explore in the local area. The village of Créances is on the edge of the Cotentin and Bessin marshes regional park, a beautiful landscape of wetlands and windswept dunes. You're also just a short drive from Pritania beach. Enjoy a picnic on the sand, then drive into Coutances to admire the Gothic cathedral. Back at your home, light up the barbecue as the sun goes down and enjoy a meal outside.

This is a modern, cosy 4-room property located in the residential district of Bretteville sur Ay, just 150m away from the beach. The house can accommodate up to 6 guests and features modern furnishings. The living/dining room is equipped with satellite TV and has direct access to the terrace. There is a fully equipped open kitchen with a small dining table that leads out to the garden. The upper floor has two bedrooms with sloping ceilings and rooflight, one with a French bed (160 cm) and another with two beds. There is also an open gallery on this floor. The house comes with a washing machine, dryer, children's high chair and baby cot. Guests can enjoy the outdoor space on the terrace which comes equipped with terrace furniture, portable barbecue and deck chairs. One pet/dog is allowed per stay.

Boasting a gorgeous garden with plenty of cosy spots to sit down and breathe in the salty sea air, start your days with coffee on the lawn while watching the boats sail by. 

If you want to see the ocean up close, the beach is less than 1km away – take a walk down to the golden sands to discover what the famous Emerald Coast has to offer. When you're feeling peckish, Cancale oysters are a must-try. Head to one of the local restaurants or buy some from the Mont Saint-Michel oyster market and take them home to prepare yourself. We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed. 

When darkness falls, head inside to cuddle up on the sumptuous sofa to watch a movie. If you're travelling with little ones, the mezzanine level dens are the perfect place for a bedtime story to make sure they settle in for a good night's sleep.

This incredibly charming 18th-century manor house, tucked away in the beautiful Normandy countryside, has stood since 1762 and now welcomes family and friends to experience the tranquillity of the estate.
