This beautifully renovated sixteenth century farmhouse with sweeping grounds is perfectly suited to a large family or group. Children will love the play room and football goals in the garden, and a couple of the bedrooms are especially designed for kids. The heated salt-water swimming pool really makes this home stand out for us, as does the air-conditioned barn – available for an additional fee – complete with a range of fitness equipment and pool table. Be aware however, that four of the bedrooms and three of the bathrooms are in annexes separate from the main house.

Visit the iconic Place de la Bourse, treat yourself to a shopping spree on the Rue Sainte-Catherine and admire the 15th-century Porte Cailhau. In the early evening, after a bite to eat in a revered brasserie, head home with a bottle of the region’s famous wine and enjoy a glass or two on your private balcony as the sky turns violet.
