We love the bright living room with its large windows that provide the most spectacular sunset views across the Winter Gardens and out towards the sea, best enjoyed on the sofa with a glass of wine or through the handy telescope provided. Full of fun decorative details that subtly nod to the coast, this space is made for relaxation and easy-going socialising. Our other favourite spot for sea-sighting is in the beautiful master bedroom where an armchair invites you to curl up on it with a good book and enjoy the rolling of the waves from yet another angle. It’s a luxury few expect for a home nestled away in the quiet Kent countryside. In warmer months, slide the bifold doors right back to let the sunshine in and enjoy views of the pristinely manicured gardens beyond. You could easily while away the whole day – in fact, the entire week - padding between the pool, sauna, and outdoor sun loungers, with an occasional barbecue thrown in, to spice things up. And there are more welcome surprises inside this home too. The spacious light-filled lounge and dining area overlooks the swimming pool – handy for keeping an eye on poolside antics even when you’re indoors. And upstairs, there’s a secondary lounge with Juliet balcony doors revealing views of the gardens and distant rolling fields. With such vast countryside views, you could feel a million miles from anywhere here, but you’re not as remote as you first thought. As refined and attractive a home as you're likely to see, this single-storey apartment is a wing of a Grade II Gothic mansion. But what makes it truly unique is that it faces the ruins of an ancient Franciscan abbey that's of such historical importance it's been granted Scheduled Monument status. Set in the home's grounds, the abbey dates from 1285 and it's quite a sight to wake up to each morning.

Inside, the home is beautifully detailed, with character features like a meticulously restored original fireplace with log burner in the living room, Gothic plasterwork, ornate cornice to the high ceilings and stone mullion windows. Decorated in a classical country residence style, there's a Chesterfield to lounge upon, a vintage dining table and chairs, and an antique writing table. Located in the picturesque village of Ash, this farmhouse is a gorgeous escape, best suited for a large family or a group of friends who love the Kent countryside. The architecture hasn't changed much since the house was built well over a century ago, and you can still see a variety of period features, even though the home has recently undergone a careful refurbishment. This is most obvious in the homey kitchen with its hanging pots and pans, supported by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, as well as the antique fireplace in the living room. Thanks to the size of the garden, everyone can find their little spot and relax alone, or get together for an alfresco meal freshly cooked on the barbecue. But our favourite space has to be the library, where you can browse the host's wide collection of titles and pretend you're the Lord or Lady of the manor. There's a local pub just a few minutes away if you're in need of refreshment, along with a village shop. Plus, with the medieval town of Sandwich just a ten-minute drive away, along with a nearby golf course and wildlife park, there's plenty to entertain the whole family.

Nestled among a cluster of fisherman’s cottages a minute’s walk from Kingsdown Beach, this cosy home is perfect for a family holiday at the coast. Inside, shades of blue and nautical touches are a nod to the nearby sea, while a hand-picked selection of shabby chic furniture adds warmth to the abode. Begin your mornings with brunch around the dining table in the open-plan living area or dine alfresco if the sun’s out. This former fisherman's cottage has been given a new lease of life as a charming holiday home. Best suited to a couple and up to three kids, it's the perfect place to begin your adventures in the wonderful town of Whitstable. 

Step inside, and you'll feel instantly at home thanks to the cosy furnishings and warm colour scheme. There are quirky details dotted throughout the house – look out for the sweet octopus sketch, patterned tiles, and carefully curated antique pieces. On chilly evenings, you can light up the wood-burner and enjoy a home-cooked dinner of local seafood. Or, when the sun shines, head out to the courtyard and fire up the barbeque for a delicious grilled feast. 

From here, Whitstable Beach is just a five-minute stroll away, where you can paddle in the water and soak up the Kentish sunshine. There are plenty of quaint pubs and tasty restaurants to try – make sure you don't leave without tasting the town's delicacy, fresh oysters. And, if you fancy doing something a bit different, head to the Wildart Trail, a woodland walk adorned with sculptures – it's a fourteen-minute drive away.

Enjoy day after day by the seaside with this contemporary beach home, boasting stunning views of the North Sea. There's so much to like here – the northern coast means you get sunset and sunrise on the water, there are plenty of areas to spread out and socialise, including a patio with a barbecue, and the location couldn't be much better, either. The town is a short stroll away, so you won't need to worry about running out of suncream, and Herne Bay is also excellently located for exploring Kent – you'll find Whitstable a few miles west, to the south is Canterbury, and to the east is Margate, all model day trip destinations.

Two of the things that the Kent town of Deal is most famous for is its castle and stretch of pebbly coastline. As it happens, both of these things are visible through the big bay window in the lounge of this apartment. Back inside, the decor is simple, but every aspect has been executed so well. Wooden floorboards and white walls provide a classy backdrop against which colourful furnishings and photographic artwork pop off. The kitchen is pretty large considering the address is only for two, so you'll be able to flex your culinary muscles with no trouble. The presence of a bathtub is also sure to be appreciated after a long day frolicking about on the beach, which sits at the end of the street. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance, too.

Located in the idyllic village of Kingsdown, this home offers up to eight guests the opportunity to escape to the Kentish coast for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. You couldn't be better placed for long walks along the shingle beach with your furry pal – best ended at the dog-friendly Zetland Arms. The interior has been lovingly renovated by your hosts. Every element of this quaint cottage has been designed with you in mind. The highlight of the home is undoubtedly the open kitchen/dining room that looks out onto the garden. Where better to come for culinary inspiration than the 'garden of England'? With splendidly high ceilings, cosy bedrooms and picturesque sea views – what more could you want from a relaxing trip to the coast? 
If you feel the urge to explore further afield, you're just a short drive from the coastal town of Deal with an abundance of beaches and beautiful walks in between, while Folkestone entices visitors with its thriving artist community and a unique selection of independent shops, approximately half an hour's drive away.

A twelve-minute walk from Martin Mill train station, in a tiny village of the same name, this home is not only ideal for history buffs, but anyone who is a fan of a tipple. Built in 1610, this traditional boozer hosts locals every evening, but can also play host to four guests in its private apartment. Above this working pub, pick up a pint of English ale to sample before making your way around this striking abode. You’ll find rich leather sofas, vintage upholstered armchairs, a gramophone, Persian rugs, and cabinets and shelves full of curios. A truly unique stay, this home really transports you back hundreds of years, steeped in British tradition and exactly the eclectic vibe you’d hope for. Finish your pint in the back garden, with its picnic benches and lush lawns, where you'll probably find yourself chatting to one of the regulars. This contemporary home is designed with entertaining in mind – with plenty of open-plan communal spaces. We love the cinema room, complete with a sofa big enough for all the family to get cosy. Socialising continues outdoors – equipped with a bar, barbecue, and pizza oven – the terrace is definitely the place to be. The garden comes with direct access to the sandy coastline via the dunes, so you'll have exclusive access to the quiet part of the beach – what's not to love?

At The Waters Edge

Taking up the two floors of a Victorian townhouse, this home has a lovely view of Deal Castle out through the window. Inside, there's plenty to hold your attention, too. The white walls and wooden floorboards work very well with the ample amounts of natural light that come in through the windows on either side of the long, open living space. There's a charming collection of nautical-themed pieces of artwork and trinkets dotted about the space, as well as a pair of bathtubs that are sure to tempt you upon coming back through the front door after a long day exploring this quaint seaside town. The pier is eight minutes' walk along the pebbly beach and you'll spot some of the wide array of restaurants and pubs that Deal has to offer along the way.

Steeped in fairytale charm, this stone brick cottage is a gorgeous choice for a family or friends getaway. Tucked away in a vast field, this Victorian home is encircled by whimsical trees with plenty of land to enjoy. 

You'll love the peace and seclusion of this home as much as its quaint interior. It's wonderfully cheerful, with a mix of traditional and modern touches. The stone brick decorative fireplace and patchwork sofa blend harmoniously with the contemporary artwork and funky coffee table. While this home might hold onto its rural Victorian charm, modern preferences brighten up the house beautifully. 

Around the house, the vast gardens provide a setting for familial joy. With plenty of nooks and crannies for the kids to play hide and seek, a barbecue area for the grown-ups to gather around while sipping on wine, and the cosy converted shed, there's so much to love about this countryside escape. 

You might not want to leave this slice of heaven, but there's much to explore in the area. The medieval town of Sandwich is under twenty minutes away by foot, while the idyllic seaside town of Deal is around a fifteen-minute drive away. When you return home after a day of exploring historic streets or eating fish and chips on the pier, your cottage awaits for afternoon drinks in the lovely garden followed by cosy evenings around the dining table.

Positioned directly on Dungeness's public beach, this former foghorn testing station has been fully renovated into a unique getaway for two. The nearby lighthouse's foghorn still works, although we much prefer the idea of waking up to the sound of the waves and seagulls. The sea is literally on your doorstep, and huge glass doors and a small terrace maximise the idyllic views. It's more of a studio than a one-bed, but we like the single-level layout. Although phone signal is patchy here and there's no proper TV, there is wi-fi for remote working and streaming. That said, the Bose speaker system, wood burner and teak bathtub are all you need to truly unwind. 

The Fog Signalling Building 

A quintessentially English countryside escape, you may have seen this characterful 16th-century manor feature in the film Mr Holmes and more notably in season three of The Crown. In honour of such a humble appearance – we've named this home after the episode in which it features, titled "Cri de Coeur". Surrounded by 720-acres of National Trust farmland, the property boasts a location amidst breathtaking natural beauty that stretches as far as the eye can see. There's even a 30-acre family-run vineyard owned that guests have the opportunity to discover on a wine tour and tasting organised by the hosts. Make the most of the on-site wine tasting lounge – it's the perfect place to socialise after a day out in the country air. 

As well as communal access to the winery, you'll have private access to an entire wing of the home as well as a private piece of the garden – separate from any other guests. Stone paths pave the way inside to the cosy main living space with a traditional aesthetic throughout. While there isn't a kitchen as such in the wing, the living area includes a fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle and some dining essentials so that you can enjoy simple meals around the table. After country walks through the sheep fields or to Winchelsea Beach (fifty minutes away on foot) – make returning and snuggling up in front of the log burner fire a cosy ritual that you'll crave long after your stay. From the bedroom windows, take in the best views in the house, as the vistas sweep across the rolling hills and out to sea. With the town of Rye positioned just 4 miles away, this place is not as remote as it may seem – as you'll have convenient access to an array of charming shops, pubs and restaurants just a ten-minute drive away. 

Cri de Coeur

This charming home was once a favourite pub for weary fishermen at the end of their shift, right on the pebbles of Kingsdown Beach. If you fancy a real ale or cold pint after a day on the beach, don’t worry, the current local pub is just two doors down. If you want a bit more choice, head to the seafood restaurants and swanky bars of Deal, an hour’s walk along the seaside promenade, or an eight-minute drive.

The home itself is packed with little treats and surprises. There’s the beachside garden out the back, where you can pad barefoot from the outdoor dining terrace straight onto the shingle of Kingsdown Beach for a paddle in the sea. Then there’s the secret sauna, tucked down an old alleyway. The pretty little sunroom is furnished with floral armchairs and a vintage-style radio to listen to the Shipping Forecast while gazing out to sea. We love the kitchen and living room, which is packed with vintage pieces and has the air of an old fisherman’s cottage. Poking about through the extensive vinyl collection and browsing the cookbooks is a particular delight.

This blue bungalow is the perfect getaway for two, with high A-frame ceilings, sand-coloured wooden floors and bright living spaces. If you're in the mood to cook, the blue and yellow kitchen has everything you'll need, so let your culinary skills run wild. On sunny days, enjoy your feast in the garden, which is shielded from the main house by clever bamboo screens. There's even a desk in the bedroom if you need to do some remote working. But our favourite part is the location – you're just a fifteen-minute walk from Deal Castle Beach and the wonderful Kent coastline. Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many seaside restaurants, shop the local boutiques, browse the many art galleries and enjoy a romp around Deal Castle. With the rest of the White Cliffs Country easily accessed by car, it's the ideal spot for a romantic retreat by the sea.

There's bucket loads of character at this historic home in Deal's pretty Middle Street Conservation Area. Set along a row of pastel-coloured terraced houses, this unique space was once an Ale House, and thanks to its Grade II-listed status, it has maintained plenty of its original features including exposed brick chimney breasts, beamed ceilings and a charming façade with gold leaf signage. Inside, a quirky layout awaits with two separate buildings connected by a central courtyard and a Moroccan-tiled hallway, with two bedrooms in the main house and the living area and a further bedroom in the mezzanine building. It’s a brilliant home for families as the kids will love the multiple levels, the playful attic bedroom and the comfy sofas to curl up on for movie nights. Georgian features mixed with colourful vintage details make it a cheery space to come home to after fun at the beach or days exploring the coast (a five-minute stroll away), and when you’re not out tasting the fresh fish and seafood on offer at one of the nearby restaurants, the cottage-style kitchen and dining room are great for gathering around for meals at the old oak table. There’s also space for getting some work done at the kitchen bar overlooking the courtyard or in the courtyard itself, and if you’re in the mood for a change of scenery, you’ll be just a short walk from the town's great local pubs, shops and cafes.

On the outskirts of pretty little Orlestone, this sixteenth-century Grade II-listed cottage is picture perfect – so much so that it was featured in the Wealden Times Lifestyle Magazine. Beyond the manicured gardens are comfy rooms packed with original features, ideal for hunkering down. Pick your spot on a plump sofa with your feet up on the pouffe in front of the wood-burning fire, catch forty winks in the dreamy beds under Egyptian cotton sheets and patchwork quilts or tuck into your hosts’ homemade cake around the antique dining table. Spend glorious summer days on the lawns sprawled out with a picnic, enveloped in the sweet scent of the rose bushes while industrious bumblebees toil away in the foxgloves. On more adventurous days, don your walking boots and explore. Set off past the pond, through shady spots and open fields, eventually arriving at the Hamstreet Woods National Nature Reserve. After your yomp, a slap-up feast is well deserved; gastro pubs and tearooms await in nearby villages, just a short drive away.
